2 More Drivers Arrested

(PEMBROKE, ON) – Two local drivers are facing Criminal Code (CC) charges after members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently investigated two separate incidents.

On June 19, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Petawawa Boulevard in the Town of Petawawa. As part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.   

As a result of this incident Donald ITEKA, age 26 of Petawawa, was charged with the following CC offence:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 9, 2024. They had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

On June 20, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Eganville Road in Pembroke after an alert was received from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) integrated with the police cruiser’s In-Car Camera (ICC).

As a result of this investigation 39-year-old Ashley RUSSELL of Bonnechere Valley Township is charged with the following CC offence:

•          Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 9, 2024, and their vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days. 

The ALPR system can read thousands of licence plates per minute allowing officers to process more information on licence plates. It also has the capability of capturing vehicles of interest such as Amber Alerts, drivers with a suspended licence and stolen vehicles.

Keegan FOSTER Was Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTYON) – One person was arrested following a traffic complaint.

On June 19, 2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint on Argyle Street, Caledonia.

Members of the OPP located the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, it became obvious they had consumed alcohol.

An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was placed under arrest.

The accused was transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, 23-year-old Keegan FOSTER of Hagersville has been charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on July 30, 2024.

Shawn Ball Arrested Again – Assault

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – One individual is facing charges after the police received a call for service of an assault that occurred at a residence in South Bruce Peninsula.

On June 17, 2024, at 4:48 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an assault that occurred on Purple Valley Road in South Bruce Peninsula. It was reported that the victim was hit on the head and then the suspect left the area in a vehicle. Police located the individual a short time later. The victim received minor injuries.

As a result, Shawn Ball, 39-year-old from Georgian Bluffs was charged with the following:

·      Assault with a weapon

·      Failure to comply with release order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Drug Bust – 2 Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTYON) – Two individuals have been charged following a drug trafficking investigation.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand/Norfolk Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) began a drug trafficking investigation into two individuals trafficking illicit drugs in the Dunnville area.

On June 17, 2024, a traffic stop was conducted on Caistorville Road, near Canborough and both occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest.

Stefanie REAMAN, 42-years-old and Kevin Stire, 37-years-old, both from Dunnville have been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

As a result of the investigation, quantities of suspected MDMA, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, as well as a quantity of Canadian currency was seized.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on July 30, 2024.

Frank MCCORMICK Was Arrested

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – A Sault Ste. Marie driver was stopped after a traffic complaint which resulted in an arrest for impaired driving in Elliot Lake.

On June 19, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of an erratic driver on Highway 108 in town. The vehicle was failing to stay in their lane and driving over curbs. Police stopped the white car a short time afterwards on Westhill Road and spoke to the driver.  The driver exhibited obvious signs of intoxication and a strong odour of alcoholic beverage emanated from their breath. Police also observed open beer cans and a partial case of beer on the passenger side of the vehicle. The driver was very uncooperative with police and physically resistive. After a short altercation, the driver was safely arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Frank MCCORMICK, 48-years-old, from Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Breach of Recognizance
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Driver fail to surrender licence
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 15, 2024.

Andrew VLAAR Was Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTYON) – An individual is facing several charges after OPP locate a vehicle involved in a traffic complaint.

On Sunday, June 16, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 6, near Caledonia.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, it became obvious they had consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and as a result, the driver was taken into custody.

The accused was transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

41-year-old Andrew VLAAR of St. Catharines is facing the following charges:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Prohibited Under the Criminal Code
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Driving While Under Suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on July 23, 2024.

Ryan CHANG Was Arrested

(SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid 43 impaired driving charges since January 1, 2024.

On June 19, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., the Manitoulin OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17. Police received information that the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and unable to maintain its lane.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Ryan CHANG, 26-years-old from Vancouver has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule III substance – two counts
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on August 6, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Hailey BOTH Was Arrested

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation on June 19, 2024.

On June 19, 2024, at approximately 10:54 p.m., officers conduced a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Colborne Street in Fenelon Falls. Through investigation the driver was arrested for impaired driving offences.

Hailey BOTH, 29-year-old of Fenelon Falls, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80
  • Operation while Impaired

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

Amy ROSE Was Arrested

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On June 19th, 2024 at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call for service regarding a motor vehicle collision along Highway 61, within the City of Thunder Bay.

Through the investigation, it was determined that one of the drivers involved in the motor vehicle collision had been consuming alcoholic beverages, was placed under arrest & returned to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, Amy ROSE, 43, of Edmonton, Alberta, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus);
  • Dangerous Operation;

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on July 31st, 2024.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) seized a quantity of drugs and charged three individuals as a result of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the Town of Caledon.

On June 18, 2024, members of the Caledon Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), along with Nottawasaga CSCU, Collingwood CSCU, Huronia West CSCU, Orillia CSCU, City of Kawartha Lakes CSCU, Southern Georgian Bay CSCU, Barrie Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau OCEB, and uniform executed seven search warrants at homes in Caledon and Schomberg. The search warrants resulted in the arrest of three individuals who are facing multiple charges. In addition, the officers seized a quantity of drugs. 

Ryan SUITOR, 37, of Schomberg, was charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Oxycodone

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Heroin

·      Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

·      Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo

·      Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order – 4 counts

·      Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

The accused was held for Bail and to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.

Matthew REGENT, 38, of Bolton, was charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine

·      Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest

·      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

·      Fail to comply with release order

Alfredo GALLO, 29, of Caledon, was charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule II substance – Other Drugs

The two accused are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on July 4th, 2024, to answer to the charges.

The following property was seized:

·      Powder cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, oxycodone pills, prescription pills, heroin.

·      Items consistent with drug trafficking

·      A large amount of Canadian currency

·      Witness P .45 calibre handgun

·      10 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition

·      2016 Lincoln MKX

·      Stolen 2014 Honda CRF2 motorcycle

Kamaluddin HAIDARI Was Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a local driver with stunt driving and impaired operation.

On June 15, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m., officers received a call for service regarding a suspicious person around The Gore Road, near Finnerty Sideroad, in the Town of Caledon. The individual left the resident in a motor vehicle and was located by officers. At that time, the vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate a speed and led to a traffic stop. During the investigation, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operation a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

Kamaluddin HAIDARI, 39, of Caledon, was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol.

·      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt.

·      Refusal to comply with demand.

·      Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

·      Driver failure to surrender license.

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on July 4th, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Speeding and impaired driving is a dangerous mixture. Drivers continue to take changes. The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. Drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Joel Viau Was Arrested Again

(NORTH BAY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person from Powassan with multiple criminal offences.

On August 9, 2023, the North Bay Detachment OPP began an investigation regarding the theft of commercial grade rental equipment from various rental companies in Southern Ontario. The heavy equipment was rented, the Global Positioning Transmitters (GPS) were removed, and the products were re-sold by the accused. The reported loss was valued at $94,000 dollars.

On June 18, 2024, members of the North Bay Detachment OPP Criminal Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Main Street in Powassan in relation to the fraud investigation. During the search, officers located a large quantity of illicit drugs, including substances suspected to be fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, psilocybin (mushrooms) and oxycodone, with a total estimated street value of $20,000. Officers also seized over $3300.00 in Canadian currency.

As a result of the investigation, Joel Viau, 47 years-of-age from Powassan, was charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Fraud Over $5000
  • Participation in criminal organization
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Breach of conditional sentence order

The accused was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.

One Arrested In Child Luring Investigation: Name Withheld

(HURON-KINLOSS, ON) – Members of the South Bruce detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested one person following a child luring and child pornography investigation in Huron-Kinloss Township.

Members of the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit began an investigation after receiving a report of a male who used a social media site to request a sexually explicit photo of a teenaged female. 

On June 19, 2024, members of the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit arrested a 29-year-old person from Peterborough. This individual is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Adult luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunications (three counts)
  • Possession of child pornography

 The accused was taken into custody where they appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice. The name of the charged party is being withheld due to the restrictions of a court-ordered publication ban.

South Bruce OPP is reminding the public to communicate with youth about the danger of online communication with unknown individuals.

Two More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two people with impaired driving.

On June 12, 2024, shortly after 10:00 p.m., members of the Temiskaming OPP stopped a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Mowat Landing Road in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Through investigation, police determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey SWEET, 47 years-of-age of New Liskeard, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

On June 13, 2024, shortly after 8:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Armstrong Street North in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Police located the vehicle and through investigation determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Sean MCNAMARA, 44 years-of-age of Kirkland Lake, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused persons were released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in July 2024. They were both issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and their motor vehicles were impounded.

$365,00 Drug Bust

(LEAMINGTON) – One person is facing numerous charges after police executed two search warrants at residences in the Municipality of Leamington. Police executed two additional search warrants on motor vehicles.

On June 18, 2024, at 4:30 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Essex County Community Street Crime Unit, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Essex County (Leamington) detachment, and the OPP Canine Unit executed warrants at locations on Elliott Street and Talbot Street East in Leamington.

Police seized significant quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and Xanax with an estimated street value in excess of $365,000. A photo of the seized drugs, drug trafficking paraphernalia, currency, mobile phones and body armour is attached to this media release.

Shelldon STEWART, 41-years-old of Leamington, is charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl CDSA S. 5(2) (two counts)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine CDSA S. 5(2) (two counts)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine CDSA S. 5(2) (two counts)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Xanax CDSA S. 5(2)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime – CC Section 354(1)(a)

The accused appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor for a bail hearing on June 18, 2024, and will be held in custody to make another court appearance on June 25, 2024.
