Daymien BRAK Arrested Again – Indecent Acts, Trespass, Etc.

(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a series of incidents that took place in the Village of Blyth, Township of North Huron between Saturday November 30th, and Sunday December 1st, 2024.   

Huron County OPP received information that an individual had trespassed and committed offences on several properties in Blyth.

As a result of the investigation, a North Huron resident has been charged.

Daymien BRAK, 27 years of age from North Huron has been charged with the following offences:

–      Trespassing at Night – (four counts),

–      Criminal Harassment – besetting and watching – (two counts),

–      Criminal Harassment – repeatedly follow,

–      Indecent Act – (two counts),

–      Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House,

–      Fail to Comply with Probation.

The accused was arrested on December 11th, processed at the Huron OPP detachment, and held for a bail hearing where they were remanded into custody.

Police continue to investigate the incidents and are seeking the public’s help. If anyone observed or had an interaction with a suspicious male between Nov 30th and December 1st, police would like to hear from you. Rollover Into Hwy 15 Ditch Sends One To Hospital

(ELGIN, ON) – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate a single vehicle rollover where the driver was transported to hospital for serious injuries.

On December 15, 2024, just after 9:00 a.m., members of the Leeds OPP received reports of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 15, just south of Bush Road.

The 63 year-old driver from Carleton Place was transported to hospital, the passenger, a 26 year-old from Carleton Place, was assessed on-scene for minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Leeds OPP was assisted by the OPP Collision Reconstructionists and the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators.

Highway 15 was closed between Bush Road and Jones Falls Road, and was re-opened a few hours later.

Serge CHIMU Was Arrested

(OTTAWA, ON) – Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual from Ottawa with multiple Criminal Code charges after they were stopped for driving while under suspension.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on December 14, OPP received a notification from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera that the registered owner of a vehicle driving in front of them was a suspended driver. Investigation revealed the driver was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code and their vehicle was not insured.

Serge CHIMU, 38 years of age faces the following charges:

  • Operation While Prohibited
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

Chimu’s vehicle was also impounded for 45 days. Chimu is set to appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Warning Signs Of An Overdose

(KENORA, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Kenora have seen a rise in the number of suspected overdoses and would like to remind residents that it is dangerous to use illicit substances from unregulated sources.

The OPP encourages the public to call 9-1-1 immediately if you or anyone else you are with is experiencing an overdose. The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act (GSDOA) provides some legal protection against simple drug possession charges for individuals who seek emergency help during an overdose. The GSDOA applies to anyone seeking emergency support during an overdose, including the person experiencing an overdose. The Act protects the person who seeks help, whether they stay or leave from the overdose scene before help arrives, and anyone else who is at the scene when help arrives.

Signs and symptoms of an overdose may include:

·     Difficulty walking, talking, and staying awake

·     Blue lips or nails

·     Very small pupils

·     Cold and clammy skin

·     Dizziness and confusion

·     Extreme drowsiness

·     Choking, gurgling, or snoring sounds

·     Slow, weak, or no breathing

·     Inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at

Police urge citizens not to handle any unknown substance, as some substances can be harmful to handle and require proper procedures and personal protective equipment. If a member of the community comes across something they suspect to be illegal drugs, they should notify the police, so the substance can be handled and disposed of in a safe manner.

Members of the public are also encouraged to ensure safe disposal of any expired or unused medication by contacting their pharmacy. Any prescription medication can be returned to a pharmacy or other prescription drug dispenser at any time. Medications can also be returned to hospitals or medical clinics or during a local prescription drug drop off/take back program.

The OPP is committed to supporting safe, healthy communities for all Ontarians. The OPP continues to work with community partners to strategically and collaboratively address the opioid crisis at the local and provincial levels.

Fatal Collision On HWY 11

(GREENSTONE, ON) – Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 between Longlac and Hearst.

On the 14th of December, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Kenora Detachment, along with Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a collision involving two commercial motor vehicles (CMV) on Highway 11 between Longlac and Hearst.

As a result, two drivers of separate CMV’s were pronounced deceased. Two separate passengers have sustained injuries and were transported to the local hospital.

Highway 11 has been closed for several hours while the North West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) Team conducts their investigation. The highway will be closed, with updates to be provided when it is reopened.

Police Warn Of Drones

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON)- Reminder to anyone operating a drone that it is your responsibility to operate it safely and legally.

On December 11, 2024, the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint about a drone flying over the homes of certain Serpent River First Nation community members, including during early mornings and late evenings. One incident involved a drone flying near a residence at 5:00 a.m., coming close to an individual’s bedroom window.

In Canada, you must follow the rules set out in the Canadian Aviation Regulations, respect the applicable Criminal Code related sections, and all municipal, provincial, and territorial laws related to trespassing and privacy.

Before flying a drone, make sure to understand the rules that apply and follow them:

All drones between 250 grams (g) and 25 kilograms (kg) in weight must be registered. This includes custom-built drones and drones built from a kit or off-the shelf.

Drones under 250 g do not need to be registered unless something is attached to it that increases its weight to 250 g or more.

Drones over 25 kg also do not need to be registered but require a special flight operations certificate instead.

Is a Licence Required?

Only if the drone is between 250 g and 25 kg, the operator must carry a valid drone pilot certificate, and the drone must be registered. If you are flying a drone that is less than 250 grams, you do not need to register the drone or get a drone pilot certificate.

Penalties

If you fly a drone without meeting these requirements, fines are:

$1000 for recreational users

$5000 for commercial users

Police are asking drone operators to respect the privacy of others, be responsible and avoid flying over private property. Everyone has a reasonable expectation of privacy.

17 Year Old Facing Explosives Charge

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment, Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service (KLPS) have laid a charge in connection to an unknown substance being brought into a school

On December 11, 2024, KLPS officers received information regarding an unknown substance being brought into school by a student. It was determined that there was no threat to public or school safety. Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Highlands OPP were notified and in conjunction with the KLPS, continued the investigation.  

As a result, a youth from Minden Hills Township has been arrested and charged for an offence related to explosives.

Out of an abundance of caution, members from the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit have attended the school and confirmed that there is no threat to public safety.

William HATTON – Drunk Driving

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving related charges because of a traffic tip.

On December 12, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to a traffic tip of a possible impaired driver on County Road 10, heading westbound towards Wasaga Beach.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., officers attended the registered owners address in Wasaga Beach where they located the vehicle approaching. Officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath which led into an impaired driving investigation. As a result, William HATTON, 39-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·      Dangerous Operation

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

24 Year Old Facing Impaired Charge

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – On the afternoon of December 12, 2024, members of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for service about a male sitting in a motor vehicle parked in a public lot.

The officers of the Collingwood OPP located the vehicle and investigated the male driver for drug impairment. Ultimately, the 24-year-old Collingwood resident was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drug (Criminal Code)
  • Having Care or Control of a motor vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
  • Having Care or Control of vehicle/boat with cannabis in open baggage

A KANWARDEEP SINGH was released from custody and is set to appear in Collingwood court on January 21st, 2025.

Meth Bust – Lance CAINES Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Members of the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in connection to a stolen vehicle investigation.

In December 2024, the Caledon OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted an investigation into stolen vehicles at a rural property in the area of McLaughlin Road and Old School Road in the Town of Caledon. The investigation led officers to execute a search warrant at that location. Two stolen vehicles were recovered, as well as an amount of methamphetamine.

As a result, Lance CAINES, 40, of Caledon, was charged with:

• Possession property obtained by crime over $5000

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 30, 2025, to answer to the charges.

7 Distracted Drivers In 2 Days

(HALIBURTON COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged seven drivers with distracted driving related charges in two days.

Between December 12 – December 13, 2024, members of the Haliburton Highlands OPP laid numerous traffic related charges. Officers conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks as well as conducting traffic enforcement with a focus on the “Big Four” which included impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and lack of seatbelt use.

The statistics speak for themselves in relation to distracted driving. Seven drivers were charged with driving while on their cellphones. The fine for driving while using a handheld communication device as outlined in the Highway Traffic Act results in a total payable fine of $615 and 3 to 6 demerit points.

While you are driving, including when you are stopped in traffic or at a red light, it is illegal to:

·        Use a phone or other hand-held wireless communication device to text or dial – you can only touch a device to call 911 in an emergency.

·        Use a hand-held electronic entertainment device, such as a tablet or portable gaming console.

·        View display screens unrelated to driving, such as watching a video.

·        Program a GPS device, except by voice commands.

You are allowed to use hands-free wireless communications devices with an earpiece, lapel button or Bluetooth. You can view GPS display screens as long as they are built into your vehicle’s dashboard or securely mounted on the dashboard.

Head On Collision – Ryan FREE Charged

(BLIND RIVER)- OPP respond to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles.

On December 10, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Algoma Paramedic Services responded to a motor vehicle collision within the 200 block of Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined a westbound white SUV collided head on with an eastbound black car. The driver of the black car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the white SUV, Ryan FREE, 52 years-old from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Careless driving

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2025.

46 Year Old Charged With Assault

(WELLINGTON NORTH TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges a local resident with two criminal charges in relation to an intimate partner violence investigation.

On December 12, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at an address in Wellington North Township.

As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old of Wellington North Township, has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following:

  • Assault – Spousal (two counts)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victims.

Serious Collision Closed Hwy 28

(DOURO-DUMMER TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews responded to the scene of a serious single-vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 28 on Thursday night.

Just prior to 8:30pm on December 12, 2024, Peterborough County OPP were dispatched to a serious single-vehicle collision on Highway 28 just north of County Road 33 in Douro-Dummer Township. The call was a result of a ‘crash detection’ function on the driver’s cell phone.

Officers and emergency crews attended the scene and found a pickup truck on its side in the ditch, pinned up against a tree. The vehicle appeared to have been travelling northbound when it left the roadway. Highway 28 was closed between Centre Road and County Road 33. Fire crews worked on extricating the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Once removed from the vehicle, the driver, a 17-year-old male from Selwyn, was transported to a local hospital but was later transported by ORNGE Air to a Toronto trauma centre due to the extent of their injuries.

Roads remained closed for several hours while emergency crews dealt with the collision and police members trained in collision reconstruction, measured and documented the scene. The highway has since been re-opened.

$19,000 Drug Bust – Names Released

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – Police have charged two individuals following the execution of a warrant in Leamington.

On December 10, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Essex County Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), West Region OPP Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) Unit, OPP K9 Unit and Leamington OPP uniform members, executed a search warrant at an address on Seacliff Drive West in the Municipality of Leamington.

During the search, officers seized a quantity of illicit drugs suspected to be Fentanyl and Psilocybin, stolen property, a firearm and ammunition. Total value of items seized is $19,300.

As a result of the investigation, Salah HALABI, 30-years-of-age of Leamington was arrested and charged. The accused is also facing charges related to a stolen motor vehicle in Leamington reported on November 17, 2024.

The charges are:

·        Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition (Two Counts)

·        Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

·        Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order (Two Counts)

·        Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

·        Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)

·        Possession of a credit card

·        Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada (Four Counts)

·        Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (Three Counts)

·        Failure to comply with undertaking (Three Counts)

·        Operation while prohibited.

The accused has been held pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.

And also, Jessica BOWDEN, 26 years-of-age of Leamington was arrested and charged with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)

·        Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada (Three Counts)

·        Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

·        Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition (Two Counts)

·        Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

·        Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

·        Possession of a credit card

The accused is scheduled to appear the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on January 14, 2025.

The investigation remains under investigation.
