44 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – Driver facing impaired charge as a result of OPP RIDE Program.

On May 17, 2025, at 11:18 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were engaged in a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in Ailsa Craig, the Municipality of North Middlesex.  

A vehicle entered the program at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment.

As a result, Vasco PAIVA ROGNES PERES, a 44-year-old of Cambridge, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Dangerous operation

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on June 25, 2025.

Paul HELMER Was Arrested

(BRANT,ON) – On May 19, 2025, at approximately 6:07 p.m., members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on McLellan Road in the County of Brant.

Upon arrival, officers located an individual unlawfully inside the home. As a result of the investigation, one person was taken into custody.

Paul HELMER, 47 years old, from Brantford, has been charged with:

  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling house
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on June 19, 2025.

Fatal Motorcycle Collision

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal motorcycle (MC) incident that occurred on Monday May 19, 2025, in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

On May 19, 2025, just before 1:27 p.m., Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Service and Township of Oro-Medonte Fire, were dispatched to Lakeshore Road East, Oro-Medonte Township for a report of an individual on a motorcycle that had struck two vehicles. The individual was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as a 64-year-old male of Oro-Medonte Township.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene and are assisting with the investigation.

Linda CRAWFORD – Impaired Driving

(CARLETON PLACE, ON) – – The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Ottawa resident with impaired driving.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 7, in Carleton Place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, just after midnight, after the officer observed the vehicle being driven erratically.

The officers arrested the driver and transported the individual to the OPP Detachment in Carleton Place for testing.

As a result of the investigation, Linda CRAWFORD, 67-years-old, of Ottawa, Ontario, has been charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on June 30, 2025.

The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days (Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

James PAPP Facing Weapons Charges

(MATTAWA, ON) – A response to a well-being check has led to firearms-related charges following an extensive police operation in Mattawa and surrounding areas.

On Sunday May 18, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a person in crisis who had entered a wooded area in Mattawa. While it was not initially confirmed whether the individual was armed, police received information indicating the person had access to a firearm.

The OPP deployed specialized resources, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, Crisis Negotiators, Aviation, and Critical Incident Command (CIC), to assist with the investigation and ensure public safety.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., the individual was located near Burritts Road in Papineau-Cameron Township by members of the ERT and Canine Unit. The person was taken into custody without incident.

As part of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Mattawa, where firearms were seized as a result of unauthorized possession.

As a result, James PAPP, 35 years-of-age from Mattawa, was charged with:

•             Unauthorized possession of a firearm

•             Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm – two counts

•             Unauthorized possession of a firearm – two counts

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on May 21, 2025.

2 Arrested Following Hit & Run

(BECKWITH TWP, ON) – The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two Smiths Falls residents after single vehicle collision.

Officers respond to a collision on Maitland Street in Beckwith Township on Sunday, May 18, 2025, just before 5:00 a.m. An off-duty officer stopped to assist the occupants, but the two individuals fled on foot into the woods. The individuals later turned themselves into police.

 As a result of the investigation, Crystal FLEGG, age 22, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Obstruct justice

·        Common nuisance

·        Fail to remain

·        Fail to report accident

·        Careless driving

John MASON, age 20, has been charged with:

·        Obstruct justice

·        Common nuisance

·        Fail to remain

·        Fail to report accident

The accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on June 23, 2025.

 The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days (Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension), and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

3 Arrested For Theft

(PERTH, ON) – The Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following a theft investigation in Perth.

On the Saturday, May 17, 2025, officers responded to a theft in progress at a business in Perth.

Three suspects fled after stealing approximately $1000 worth of alcohol. The were seen heading eastbound in a truck on Highway 7.  

Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop and three people were arrested at the scene and several containers of alcohol seized.

Thomas FAST, 24-years-old of Ottawa, has been charged with:

·          Theft under $5000

·          Fail to comply with release order – two counts

·          Possession of Property obtained by crime

Keith WENNEKES, 51-years-old of Gatineau has been charged with:

·        Theft under $5000

·        Possession of property obtained by crime

Patrick LANGDON, 51-years-old of Ottawa, has been charged with:

·        Possession of property obtained by crime

·        Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

·        Fail to surrender insurance card

·        Drive with obstructed plate

FAST and WENNEKES remain in custody for a bail hearing scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on May 20, 2025. LANGDON was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on 23 June, 2025.

Richard James PIPER Was Arrested

(BRANT,ON) – The Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one individual following an impaired driving investigation on East River Road.

On May 18, 2025, officers responded to a report involving a person near a vehicle along the roadside. Following an investigation, one individual was taken into custody.

Richard James PIPER, 52 years old, of Kitchener, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on May 29, 2025. The individual’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the involved vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds all motorists that impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drug, is a serious offence that poses a threat to everyone on our roadways. Anyone who suspects impaired driving is urged to call 9-1-1.

19 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation during RIDE program in the Town of Bancroft.

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, just after midnight, Bancroft OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Monck Street in the Town of Bancroft. One driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Preston CLANCY, a 19-year-old resident of Bancroft, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80) plus
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol

The accused’s license was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on June 3, 2025.

Baraka MICHEE – Drunk Driving

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after receiving reports of a suspected impaired driver.

On May 18, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Renfrew OPP received a traffic complaint about a vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 417 in McNab-Braeside.

Renfrew OPP located the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Baraka MICHEE, age 25 of Gatineau, Qc was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

·        Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

·        Fail to have insurance card

·        Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 18, 2025. The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

James WHITE Arrested – Details Released

(ESSA, ON)– Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with impaired driving after being stopped for speeding in Essa Township

On May 17, 2025, at 4:33 p.m., A Nottawasaga OPP Traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement on County road 90 in Essa Township. The officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding and during the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to the driver’s arrest. 

As a result of the investigation, James WHITE 57-years-old of Innisfil was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on June 12, 2025, to answer to the charge. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

18 Year Old Passed Out In Drive-Thru Arrested

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after a driver was found, unconscious in a restaurant drive-thru.

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, just after 11:30 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to the location in Renfrew when it was reported that a male had passed out.

Officers attended the scene and arrested an individual in a vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Yaroslav YELISYEYEV, age 18 of White Lake was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired- alcohol / drugs

·        Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Young driver- B.A.C. above zero

·        Person under 19 years consuming liquor

·        Novice driver- B.A.C. above zero

·        Fail to notify change of address

·        Fail to surrender driver’s licence

·        Breach of probation order – four counts

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 18, 2025. The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

95 Year Old Found Deceased Following Fire

(SOUTH GLENGARRY, ON) – The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate a residential fire.

On Monday, May 19, 2025, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers, along with the South Glengarry Fire Department, responded to a residential fire on Fourth Line Road in South Glengarry Township. The home was fully engulfed when first responders arrived.    

A 73-year-old male was able to escape with minor injuries. A 95-year-old female was located deceased inside the residence.

The fire remains under investigation by the SD&G OPP Crime Unit and the office of the Ontario Fire Marshal. The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit is assisting.

20 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation following a collision.

On Friday, May 16, 2025, just after 2:00 a.m., Bancroft OPP officers attended the scene of the collision on Musclow-Greenview Road, in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands. Officers located the driver, uninjured, and conducted a roadside test with an Approved Screening Device. As a result, the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Ashley HICKS, a 20-year-old resident of Bancroft, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80) plus
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol

The accused’s license was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on June 10, 2025.

Hudie Berdy GHEZEL – Break & Etner

(EMBRUN, ON) – A 20-year-old is facing multiple charges after the completion of a police investigation.

On March 6, 2025, at approximately 05:43 a.m., police responded to a call for service at a business in Embrun. During the investigation it was determined that a break and enter had occurred and that a large amount of jewellery was stolen.

On May 15, 2025, the accused was arrested following a comprehensive police investigation. Members of the Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, with the support of the Long Sault OPP Forensic Identification Services, the OPP Community Street Crime Unit, and the Ottawa Police Service, collaborated in the investigation. Their coordinated efforts led to the successful identification and subsequent arrest of the individual in question.

As a result, Hudie Berdy GHEZEL of Ottawa has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Break and Enter – commit indictable offence

·        Mischief Over $5,000

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on May 28, 2025.
