One Dead In Workplace Incident, One Hospitalized

(BROCKTON, ON) – On May 23, 2025, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bruce County Paramedic Services, and Brockton Fire and Emergency Services attended an address along Concession 6 of Greenock for a workplace incident.

Police attended the scene and discovered that an individual was trapped under a concrete wall.

As a result of the incident, a 37-year-old resident of Hanover was pronounced deceased. Additionally, a 35-year-old resident of Arran-Elderslie was injured and transported to a London area trauma centre.

The Ministry of Labour (MOL) has been notified and will continue the investigation.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Six individuals are facing multiple charges following a three-week long investigation that led to the seizure of suspected cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, Percocet pills and illicit cannabis.

Between April 21, 2025, and May 9, 2025 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Thunder Bay Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with support from the OPP Canine Unit, OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, and Thunder Bay Police Service Canine Unit investigated incidents of drug trafficking throughout Northwestern Ontario.

During the investigation and during the execution of two search warrants at residences in the City of Thunder Bay, officers seized suspected cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, Percocet pills and illicit cannabis.

As a result of the investigation, six people have been charged and face numerous charges under the Criminal CodeControlled Drugs and Substances Act and Cannabis Act.

Maurice BARTLEY, 57-years-old of Thunder Bay has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid

The accused was released from custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on July 9, 2025.

Steve GROOMBRIDGE, 42-years-old of Thunder Bay has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

The accused was remanded into custody.

Lennox MATTINAS, 48-years-old of Thunder Bay has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid

The accused was remanded into custody

Jasen Dowhaniuk, 43-years-old of Thunder Bay has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of distributing

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on July 30, 2025 to answer to the above charges.

Alleysha Henry, 27-years-old of Thunder Bay has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

The accused was released from custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder on June 5, 2025 to answer to the above charge.

Leah NEWMAN, 49-years-old of Langley, BC has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs

The accused was released from custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on June 4, 2025 to answer to the above charges.

Samantha McCARTHY Was Arrested

(PUSLINCH TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest a Puslinch Township resident for impaired driving, after conducting a traffic stop.

On May 21, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP conducted a traffic stop on Concession 11 in Puslinch Township.

As a result, Samantha McCARTHY, a 32-year-old of Puslinch Township was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on June 6, 2025.

Onkar SINGH Was Arrested In Fergus

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – On May 21, 2025, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that was observed on Tower Street South in Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Onkar SINGH, 50-years-old of Fergus, was charged with:

·      Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drug

·      Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code

·      Having care and control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on June 6, 2025.

Death In Red Lake – Details Released

(RED LAKE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a suspicious death in the Municipality of Red Lake.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, members of the Red Lake OPP Detachment began investigating an incident that led to one individual being taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the individual was pronounced deceased in hospital. 

The deceased has been identified as Myrna MASON, 40 years old, of Red Lake.

This investigation is being led by the OPP North West Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is being provided by OPP Forensic Identification Services.

2 Charged In Death Of Child – Names Released

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Police have arrested two individuals in relation to a child death investigation in Gravenhurst.

On Thursday, January 5, 2023, at approximately 7:45 p.m., members from the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Muskoka Emergency Services responded to a call for a child who had suffered significant injuries. The child was transported to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Tyler Phillip WHALE, 24 years old of Brampton, was arrested and charged with second degree murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code (CC).

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Justine OSBORNE, 33 years old of Gravenhurst, was arrested and charged with failing to provide necessaries of life contrary to section 215(2) of the CC.

Both accused were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Friday, May 23, 2025.

A publication ban has been issued and as a result, the OPP will not be able to release further information.

The Muskoka OPP Crime Unit is continuing this investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is also being provided by OPP Forensic Identification Services.

Jacob BURTON – Drunk Driving

(HALIBURTON HIGHLANDS, ON) – The Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver with impaired operation as part of a RIDE program.

On May 20, 2025, shortly after 11:00 p.m., members of the Haliburton Highlands OPP were engaged in a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in the Municipality of Dysart Et Al. During the initiative, officers met with a driver and grounds were formed that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, leading to an arrest.

As a result, Jacob BURTON, 26, of Peterborough, was charged with:

·   Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on July 2, 2025, to answer to the charge.

29 Year Old Arrested Following Hit & Run

(DOURO-DUMMER TOWNSHIP, ON) – Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged an individual with impaired driving after receiving a call regarding a single vehicle collision.

On May 17, 2025, shortly after 7:00pm, Peterborough County OPP Officers were dispatched to a report of a collision that took place on County Road 6 in Douro-Dummer Township. Officers were informed that a vehicle had entered the ditch, and another vehicle had arrived and was providing the driver transportation. A description of both the driver and the vehicle were provided.

A short while later, OPP officers located the driver and after a short conversation with them, determined them to be impaired. The driver was at that point arrested.

Mitchell HOLDEN (age 29) of Oakville, ON., was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Fail to report accident

·      Fail to remain

·      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 24, 2025

Christopher SHAW Was Arrested

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT LAKES, ON) – Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged an individual with impaired driving after stopping an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).

On May 17, 2025, just prior to 1:30pm, Peterborough County OPP Officers were patrolling on County Road 36 in the Municipality of Trent Lakes. Officers observed an individual operating an ATV and stopped to speak with them. During the course of their conversation, officers determined the driver to be impaired and arrested them.

Christopher SHAW (age 36) of Buckhorn, ON., was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code

·      Driver – No helmet or proper helmet

·      Drive with passenger not wearing proper helmet

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused had their driver’s licence further suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 10, 2025

Riley HICKS Was Arrested

(PICTON, ON) – A noisy engine attracted attention from an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer in Bloomfield.

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, around 2:30 a.m., an officer with the Prince Edward County Detachment was monitoring for traffic issues when she heard a loud dirt bike in the area, followed by an unusual sound and then silence.

The officer located the bike and rider on the sidewalk near the intersection of Bloomfield Main and Stanley Street. Both the bike and the rider’s helmet showed signs of damage. A signpost nearby was also damaged.

The individual indicated he was not injured and was then arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for testing. He was later taken to hospital as a precaution.

Riley HICKS, age 24 of Prince Edward County, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate a vehicle without insurance – two counts

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on June 4, 2025.

The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the dirt bike was impounded for seven days.

4 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Four individuals have been charged as a result of separate investigations into incidents involving impaired driving.

At approximately 7:23 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, the Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 9-1-1 call after a motorist fled the scene of a collision in Haldimand County.

The vehicle was later located on Concession 8 Townsend in Waterford. After conducting a roadside sobriety test, officers took the driver into custody without incident.

29-year-old Alexander ARROWSMITH from Norfolk County has been charged with the following alleged offence:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

At approximately 3:18 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, a Norfolk County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop and initiated an investigation on Highway 24 near the outskirts of Waterford.

Following a roadside sobriety test, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

48-year-old Howard RICHARDS from Brantford, Ontario, has been charged with the following alleged offence:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, the Norfolk County OPP responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 3 near Cockshutt Road. No injuries were reported.

As a result, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

59-year-old Roger CRAWFORD from Norfolk County has been charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

At approximately 10:29 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, a Norfolk County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop and initiated an investigation on Scott Street in Delhi.

After speaking with the driver, the officer took them into custody without incident.

A 36-year-old from St. Catharines, Ontario, has been charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand,
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code,
  • Dangerous operation,
  • Take motor vehicle without consent,
  • Obstruct plate,
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence,
  • Fail to have insurance card.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date.

Repeat Offender James Harley DEACON Arrested Again

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after traffic stop in the Town of Renfrew led to a foot chase.

On Monday, May 19, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Renfrew OPP conducted a traffic stop on Lochiel Street South. Officers identified a passenger as being wanted.  When officers attempted to make an arrest, the wanted person fled on foot. The officers were able to outrun the suspect and took the individual into custody after a physical altercation.

As a result of the investigation, James Harley DEACON, age 31 of Arnprior, was charged with:

·      Resist peace officer

·      Obstruct peace officer

·      Fail to comply with probation order – two counts

The accused was held for bail.

Fatal Collision

(GOULAIS RIVER, ON) – The Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing their investigation into a fatal collision that occurred in Goulais River.

On May 19, 2025, at approximately 6:39 p.m., the Sault Ste. Marie OPP responded to a serious single-vehicle collision on Four Seasons Drive. A 31-year-old person from Goulais River was confirmed deceased at the scene, as a result of the collision.

Members of the North East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team are assisting with the investigation.

Moncef LOUHICHI – Theft, Etc.

(CLARENCE-ROCKLAND, ON) – Three youths and an adult from Quebec have been arrested and charged in relation to the theft of a motor vehicle.

On May 20, 2025, at approximately 08:00 a.m., officers from the Russell County Ontario Provincial Police Detachment (OPP) in Rockland responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle from a parking lot in Clarence-Rockland. Witnesses provided accurate details that were crucial to the investigation.

Members from both Russell County OPP and the Hawkesbury OPP coordinated their efforts and located the stolen vehicle at approximately 08:15 a.m. The driver was arrested at the scene.

Hawkesbury OPP officers located an associated suspect vehicle, observed at the scene at the time of the theft, at approximately 09:35 a.m. and arrested the three occupants.

As a result, 18-year-old, Moncef LOUHICHI, of Terrebonne, Quebec has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft

·        Theft of Motor Vehicle

·        Possession of Break in Instruments

·        Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on June 26, 2025.

The three youths were all charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Theft of Motor Vehicle

·        Possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft

·        Possession of Break in Instruments

They have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.

Canoeist Charged With Drunk Driving

(NORTH ALGONA-WILBERFORCE TWP, ON) – An individual is facing charges after an incident on Golden Lake in North Algona-Wilberforce (NAW) Township.  

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to call regarding a canoeist in distress on Golden Lake. The individual onboard did not have a life jacket, and the canoe began taking on water, eventually capsizing in high winds. Police arrived on scene and found the man had made it to shore along Island View Drive in NAW.   

The canoeist was taken to hospital for assessment by Renfrew County Paramedics. As part of the investigation a Approved Screening Device was utilized, and further testing was conducted.

 As a result, 40-year-old Jordan WATSON, from the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, is charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Canada Shipping Act (CSA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
  • Operating a personal watercraft without required personal floatation device on board

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 16, 2025.

Under the Criminal Code, it is illegal to operate a conveyance while impaired. Conveyance broadly means a motor vehicle, vessel, aircraft or railway equipment. A vessel encompasses all types of watercraft, regardless of whether they are motorized or not. This includes boats, canoes, kayaks and sailboats.
