Luring Child & Child Porn : Quentin Darwin WYNNE #PervertAlert

(Kashechewan, ON) – Police arrested a suspect Wednesday in connection with an ongoing investigation into possession of child pornography and luring.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Kashechewan First Nation detachment learned of a complaint on Aug. 9 about a suspect possibly involved in the luring of minors and possession of child exploitation materials.

Police began an investigation into the complaints. The ongoing investigation included members of the NAPS Crime Unit.

As a result of continued investigation, an adult male suspect was identified.

In the morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 20, police executed a search warrant at a residential address in the zero-to-100 block of Amisk Street in Kashechewan First Nation.

During the search, a male suspect was located and arrested without incident.

A number of electronic devices were seized following the search.

Quentin Darwin WYNNE, 28, of Kashechewan First Nation, is charged with:

  • Possession of Child Pornography
  • Luring a Person Under 16 by Means of Telecommunication

The accused appeared for a bail hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 20 and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.

The investigation remains ongoing.

$380,000 Drug Bust

(Thunder Bay, ON) – Police arrested a suspect Thursday connected to an investigation of drug trafficking distribution to First Nation communities from the City of Thunder Bay.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s Intelligence Unit, with assistance from the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Intelligence Unit and the OPP, executed a search warrant at a residential address in the 700-block of McIntosh Street in Thunder Bay on Thursday, Aug. 14.

The search warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking from Thunder Bay to multiple surrounding First Nation communities. Aroland First Nation was among the possible target communities for distribution identified through this investigation.

During the search, police located and seized a significant quantity of opioids – oxycodone and hydromorphone. Police also seized about $55,000 CAD. A male suspect was arrested without incident.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized totals about $380,000 CAD.

A 67-year-old Thunder Bay is charged with:

  • Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Hydromorphone for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The accused has since been released with a future court appearance date of Nov. 13, 2025.

The identity of an accused is withheld until the charges against them have been formally sworn in by the courts.

Fatal Fire

(Sandy Lake, ON) – Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a house fire in Sandy Lake First Nation that led to a death Thursday afternoon.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Sandy Lake First Nation detachment received a call for service regarding a residential fire in the community shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.

When police arrived on scene, they observed a home engulfed in flames and community firefighters actively working toward extinguishing the blaze.

Nine people escaped, and received treatment at the community nursing station for injuries consistent with smoke inhalation.

Police confirmed the discovery of a deceased person inside the home shortly after 4:15 p.m. A scene was established, and an investigation into the fire and death remain ongoing.

Members of the NAPS Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Unit, Office of the Chief Coroner and representatives of the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office are now involved in the ongoing investigation.

No further details about the fire or deceased is available at this time.

Meth Bust – Names Released

(Attawapiskat, ON) – Police arrested two suspects and seized suspected methamphetamine pills and crystal methamphetamine following the search of a home in Attawapiskat First Nation Friday.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s Intelligence Unit, with assistance from front-line officers working out of the Attawapiskat detachment, NAPS Emergency Response Team, members of the OPP, and the Timmins Police Service’s Drug Enforcement Unit, executed a search warrant at a residential address in the community of Attawapiskat First Nation in the morning hours of Friday, Jan. 10.

The warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity from that address.

When officers entered the home, they located and arrested two suspects without incident.

As a result of their search, police located and seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine pills, crystal methamphetamine, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

The estimated street value of drugs seized totals more than $35,000 CAD.  

Jonathan TOOKATE, 44, of Attawapiskat First Nation, is charged with:

·         Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking

·         Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking

·         Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000

Sarah TOOKATE, 76, of Attawapiskat First Nation, is charged with:

·         Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking

·         Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking

·         Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000

Sarah TOOKATE was released with conditions and a future court appearance date.

Jonathan TOOKATE appeared for a bail hearing on Saturday, Jan. 11 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

MISSING PERSON: Angela (Angie) NESHAWABIN, 42

Police are requesting public assistance in locating missing person Angela ‘Angie’ NESHAWABIN, 42.  

Angie is described as an Indigenous female, standing about 5’3” tall with a medium build. She has brown hair and brown eyes.  

She was last seen on Oct. 31, 2024, at the Money Mart located at 77 Great Northern Road in Sault Ste Marie. Her last known communication through social media was recorded in early December 2024.

Angie is known to frequent the Chapleau and Sault Ste Marie areas.

Man Injured After Fighting Off Polar Bear From Attacking Wife

(Fort Severn, ON) – The man who leapt onto a polar bear to protect his wife from being mauled is recovering from serious injuries to his arm and legs, but is expected to recover.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Fort Severn First Nation detachment were dispatched to a residential address in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 3 following reports of gunfire.

Police were also made aware of a possible bear sighting in the same area.

When police arrived on scene they located a deceased polar bear and learned an adult male had been transported to the community nursing station to have his injuries assessed and treated.

Following an investigation, police learned a couple – an adult male and adult female – had exited their home before 5 a.m. to find their dogs. While in the driveway of their home, a polar bear lunged at the woman.

The woman slipped to ground as her husband leapt onto the animal to prevent its attack. The bear then attacked the male, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and legs.

During the attack, a neighbour arrived with a firearm and shot the bear several times. The bear retreated to a nearby wooded area where it died from its injuries.

Police continued to patrol the area to ensure no other bears were roaming the community.
