2 Arrested For Break & Enter

(MIDLAND,ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment responding to a report of a break and enter at an unoccupied Fifth Street, Midland residence promptly made arrests upon arrival and after a brief scene investigation.

At approximately 6:34 p.m. October 12, 2024, officers observed two individuals exit the residence and made arrests for being in the residence. Further investigation at the scene resulted in the seizure of a quantity of a substance believed to be fentanyl.

Charged in the investigation is Blair Edward CLARE 32 years of no fixed address, Midland with following criminal offence.

  • Break, Enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence

Also charged is Kayla LECAMP 36 years of Barrie with the following criminal offences.

  • Break, Enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused persons were released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on November 28, 2024..

Russell HAMLEY – Impaired Driving

(MIDLAND,ON) – Observations by a community member of two persons appearing to be unconscious in a vehicle behind the Mountain View Mall, Midland resulted in the dispatch of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at approximately 2:28 p.m. October 11, 2024.

Attending officers located the suspect vehicle and awoke the two occupants and upon speaking with the driver entered into an impaired driving investigation. Scene investigation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of drugs believed the be fentanyl.

As a result of these investigations the driver Russell HAMLEY 66 years of Penetanguishene has been charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

And Further

  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available contrary to the Cannabis Control Act
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 31, 2024

The passenger Alexandra ASSANCE 31 years of Christian Island has been charged criminally with.

  • Resist Peace Officer

And Further

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 28, 2024

Tyler Scott SYLVESTER Was Arrested Again

(MIDLAND,ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. have concluded another vehicle theft investigation in the Town of Midland with a Christian Island resident being charged.

On October 10, 2024 at approximately 10:28 p.m. the OPP Communication Centre received a report of a vehicle being stolen from in front of a Dominion Street business. Shortly after, an officer on patrol noted the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Olive and Elizabeth Streets and made an arrest of the lone driver. After gaining control of the driver the officer entered into an impaired driving investigation which required the assistance of an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.

As a result of these investigations Tyler Scott SYLVESTER 31 years has been charged criminally and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing on the following charges.

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MIDLAND,ON) – An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program on Highway 12, Midland on the evening of October 7, 2024 led officers from “D platoon of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. into two impaired driving investigations only several minutes apart.

Officers at the R.I.D.E. program set up between Wye Valley Road and Franke Kindred Road observed a white Honda bearing Ontario registration CXYP304 while on it’s approach turnoff onto Wye Valley Road at approximately 11:19 p.m. October 7, 2024. An officer immediately located and stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation, Melody Faith GAUTHIER 23 years of Midland has been charged criminally with the following driving offence.

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A few minutes later at approximately 11:22 p.m. R.I.D.E. program officers arrested the driver of a Ford Edge with registration Ontario BZNP576. While conducting the at scene part of the impaired driving investigation, an open bottle of liquor was seized from the interior of the vehicle.

As a result, William STANLEY 64 years of Port McNicoll has been charged criminally with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And further with

  • Driving Motor Vehicle With Liquor Readily Available contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act

The accused persons were released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 24, 2024 and was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension along with a 7-day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

In the interest of increasing road safety, detachment officers conducted twelve separate R.I.D.E. programs during October 4-7, 2024 checking over 220 vehicles nabbing two impaired drivers and conducted four roadside screening tests.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were tasked to investigate a number of impaired driving complaints over the past week, either reported by community members to the OPP Communication Centre or simply by officers uncovering incidents during their patrol of our communities. The following are those investigated incidents.

An officer patrolling on Overhead Bridge Road, Penetanguishene at approximately 12:40 a.m. September 28, 2024 observed a vehicle that had left the roadway into a treed area. The officer located an uninjured male driver and passenger with a Toyota Rave with Ontario plate CBEP887 and upon speaking with driver the officer commenced an impaired driving investigation.

Further investigation at detachment employing an OPP Drug Recognition Expert officer has resulted in Kristopher INESON 50 years of age of Wasaga Beach being charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 10, 2024 and was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension along with a 7-day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Officers attended the area of Smiths Camp, Midland after OPP Communication Centre received numerous complaints of the driving actions of a male operating a silver Dodge Ram with Ontario plate BK33500 at approximately 5:39 p.m. September 28, 2024. This investigation is still ongoing and officers wish to thank those community members who contacted the police in this investigation.

On September 30, 2024 at approximately 1:19 p.m. a community member observed a silver Nissan with Ontario plate DARV776 stopped at the Baxter Community Centre with the driver slumped over the steering wheel and contacted police.

Officers attended the location to observe the vehicle being operated in the area of the community centre, stopping the vehicle and spoke to the lone driver. An impaired driving investigation was commenced at the scene which resulted in the seizure of a quantity of cocaine, heroin, cannabis along with associated drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency (see attached photograph).

As a result of this investigation Isaiah DISTEFANO 26 years of age of Barrie has been charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (two counts)

And Further with the following drug offences

  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place
  • Possession of illicit cannabis
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

And Further with the following Provincial Offences violations

  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt

The accused was held for bail and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date. The impaired driving investigation is continuing awaiting a forensic analysis report.

On October 2, 2024 at approximately 7:06 a.m. Southern Georgian Bay Detachment officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver behind the steering wheel of a white and black Mini Cooper in the Huronia Mall, Midland parking lot. The vehicle was stopped by dispatched officer at 7:07 a.m. and located the driver slumped over the steering wheel. The officer was able to awaken the driver who was known to officer and attempted to flee the scene once out of the car. An impaired driving investigation was commenced at the scene resulting in the seizure of an edged weapon and a quantity of drugs believed to be fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.

The investigating officer was assisted by an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer with the Impaired Operation investigation. The Mini Cooper vehicle used in the incident had been reported stolen at 12:41 a.m. October 2, 2024 from a Hugel Avenue, Midland residence and as a result of this investigation a number of criminal driving, property related charges have been issued to 31 year old Penetanguishene male. (Previous release dated October 3, 2024)

During the time of this report, officers in the interest of enhancing road safety conducted 15 separate reduce impaired driving everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs checking 150 drivers for signs of impairment.

Robyn Patricia COPEGOG – Armed Robbery

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment responded at approximately 3:03 p.m. October 3, 2024 after the OPP Communications Centre received a 911 call from a community member was being confronted by an individual with an edged weapon who is also in possession of the callers wallet on Borsa Lane, Midland.

The attending officer promptly located the suspect over on Bourgeois Lane and attempted to arrest the individual, who while being arrested, bit the officer and was subdued by assisting officers who removed an edged weapon from the arrested person. A quantity of property was located nearby belonging to the victim which had also been removed from the victims parked vehicle.

Charged in connection to this investigation is Robyn Patricia COPEGOG 33 years of age of Midland with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of an identity document
  • Possession of a credit card

The accused was released from custody and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice  on November 14, 2024.

Christopher Robin MACLEOD Was Arrested Again

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment have made an arrest in a recent break and enter to a Midland waterfront restaurant.

Officers responded to a report of a break / enter & theft to a King Street, Midland restaurant which occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. September 29, 2024 involving two persons in which a significant amount of liquor was stolen.

Through investigation using electronic surveillance, one person was identified and charged after being located later in the morning intoxicated at a nearby coffee shop. Officers continue to investigate in an effort to identify the second involved person.

Charged is Christopher Robin MACLEOD 50 years of Midland with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Mischief Under $ 5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

Repeat Offender Jonathan SYLVESTER Arrested Again, & Again

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers attached to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment arrested a Christian Island male twice overnight as they investigated several theft related calls for service from community members in the Town of Midland.

A community member called the OPP Communication Centre at approximately 9:36 p.m. September 27, 2024 reporting the theft of a Black Ford Fusion that was parked in a Midland restaurant parking lot.

Through investigation, the vehicle was located parked on the street in front of a Ottawa Street, Midland residence. Through further investigation with the assistance of video surveillance, officers were able to identify a suspect who is known to police. The suspect was located a short time later at a Seventh Street Midland address and arrested. Further investigation upon arrest resulted in the recovery of stolen property from the vehicle including the owners identification and credit cards. The accused was later released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

Later in the evening at approximately 12:09 a.m. September 28, 2024, officers were dispatched to the Seventh Street, Midland area after the OPP Communication Centre received a report from a community member reporting a suspicious person entering and attempting to enter parked cars in the area. Officers were able to locate and arrest a person in the area matching the provided description who was the accused in the earlier vehicle theft.

Charged in connection to these investigations is Jonathan SYLVESTER 36 years of Christian Island with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada (two counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (six counts)

And Further

  • Trespassing at Night
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (four counts)

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

Nathan FONTAINE Was Arrested Again

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment  responded in the afternoon of September 16, 2024 to report by Midland Foodland store security of the theft of a large box of beer by a known Midland resident.

The dispatched officer through investigation was able to confirm the identify the suspect and the accused was later arrested in the morning hours of September 26, 2024, while riding his bicycle on Hartman Drive, Midland.

Charged is Nathan FONTAINE 32 years with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Theft Under $5000- SHOPLIFTING
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was released from police custody and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice  on November 7, 2024

Christine CALVERT Was Arrested

(MIDLAND,ON) – An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program led officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. into an impaired driving investigation recently.

Officers stopped an east bound blue Chevrolet pick up truck on Highway 12 near Wye Valley Road, Midland near 2:06 a.m. September 10, 2024, as officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at that location. An officer spoke with the driver at which time an impaired by drug investigation was commenced along with a seizure of a quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine was made..

A further investigation at Detachment was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.

The investigation has resulted in the following criminal code driving charge for Christine CALVERT 53 years of Port McNicoll.

  • Operation while impaired – drug

And further with

  • Possession of Schedule I substance – cocaine

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 24, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Joshua LEMAY Facing Numerous Charges

(MIDLAND,ON) – A traffic stop by police of a speeding Dodge Dart on Yonge Street, Midland has resulted in the seizure of a considerable amount of street drugs, Canadian currency and weapons resulting in criminal charges for a Midland resident.

Two members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment conducted the vehicle stop at approximately 8:16 p.m. August 28, 2024 resulting in the officers entering into a Highway Traffic Act investigation. During the course of this investigation, the officers entered into Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation resulting the seizure of substances that appear to be Methamphetamine, Oxycodone, Heroin, Psilocybin and Cocaine along with drug paraphernalia. Also seized was a imitation .45 caliber BB pistol during this investigation. (see attached photograph)

Charged with the following criminal offences is Joshua LEMAY 35 years of Midland.

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

And Further With

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Heroin
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

A number of Provincial Offences violations were also noted during the investigation as follows.

  • Drive without proper headlights – motor vehicle

Fatal Fire

(MIDLAND, ON) – An early morning fire on Barnett Avenue, Midland has claimed the life of a Midland resident. Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment responded at approximately 6:27 a.m. September 1, 2024 along with Midland Fire Service and County of Simcoe Paramedics after neighbours noticed a fire at a nearby home and forced in the front door and called 911.

A 39 year old male who was later confirmed to be the resident of the home was located in the area of attached garage to the single story detached bungalow and was triaged and transported to an area hospital by paramedics where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Although there are no signs of foul play, the ongoing investigation is being conducted by officials from The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and a post mortem will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. at a future date, all in an effort to determine the cause of the fire and death.

Dawson DION Was Arrested Again

(MIDLAND, ON) – A 25 year old Barrie resident has been charged in connection to a unlawful vehicle entry and theft incident after a vehicle owner reported the theft of a special gift from an unlocked parked vehicle at an area hospital which occurred at approximately 3:21 a.m. August 29, 2024.

Through investigation a suspect was identified and was arrested at 8:21 p.m. August 29, 2024 the scene of another incident at a William Street, Midland residence.

Charged is Dawson DION 25 years of Barrie with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MIDLAND,ON) – An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program and a driving complaint led officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. to conduct two separate impaired driving investigations recently.

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m. staff at a Tay Township marina reported to the OPP Communication Centre an individual driving about the marina causing a disturbance and may be possibly impaired. The dispatched officer located the suspect on the property and entered into a drinking and driving investigation.

As a result, Owen KITSEMETRY 48 years of Barrie has been charged criminally with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 12, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Another investigation took place on Highway 12 near Wye Valley Road, Midland near 1:48 a.m. August 22, 2024, as officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at that location. An officer stopped a vehicle and spoke to the driver at which time an impaired by drug investigation was commenced. A further investigation at Detachment was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.

The investigation has resulted in the following criminal code driving charge for Robert BELANGER 65 years of Penetanguishene.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

and further with the following Provincial Offences of as follows:

  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 3, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
