Aggravated Assault – Jayson PEARCE Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest in relation to an assault with a weapon investigation that had occurred in the town of Midland over the weekend.

On Friday June 13, 2025, at approximately 11:13 p.m., officers responded to a report of an injured male requiring medical assistance after being assaulted by an individual with an edged weapon at a Yonge Street, Midland motel. Attending officers at approximately 11:18 p.m., located and took over first aid duties from bystanders tending to a male victim outside in the parking lot and after a brief investigation the suspect was located at the scene and arrested.

Uniform OPP investigators at the scene were assisted by members of the Detachment Major Crime Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Forensic Identification Services (FIS).

Charged is Jayson PEARCE 26 years of Midland with the offence of Aggravated Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

The membership of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment would like to thank the civilians who without hesitation selflessly assisted the 45 year old male victim of Midland who was transported by Simcoe County Paramedics to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the assault and later released.

Investigators would like to advise that they believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety but do remind all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON)- A disturbing streak of local impaired driving investigations by officers of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continued over the weekend. Officers were called on last week on June 3 and June 5 and were further called upon to conduct impaired driving investigations on June 6, 7 and 8, 2025.

On June 6, 2025 at approximately 11:03 p.m. officers responded to a report from a community member of a possible impaired involved in a traffic incident on First Street, Midland. An officer conducting a follow up patrol located the suspect vehicle on Robert Street East, Penetanguishene at 11:27 p.m. and commenced an impaired driving investigation after making a traffic stop and speaking with the driver.

As a result, 21 year old Penetanguishene resident Adam WRIGHT has been charged with the criminal offence of Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) in relation to this investigation

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on June 19, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

On June 7, 2025 at approximately 6:15 p.m. a community member reported a possible impaired driver in a Midland Avenue, Midland retail parking lot and the responding officer located the suspect vehicle shortly afterwards at approximately 6:31 p.m. in a Simcoe County Road 93, Midland retail parking. An impaired driving investigation was commenced upon the officer speaking with the driver.

As a result of this investigation, 57 year old Midland resident Wayne SHATFORD has been charged criminally with the offences of Operation while impaired – alcohol and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on June 26, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Lastly, at approximately 9:50 p.m. on June 8, 2025, an officer heading east on Heritage Drive, Midland from Detachment on route to a call for service noticed the apparent driving of the eastbound vehicle directly ahead and made a traffic stop resulting in the officer entering into an impaired driving investigation upon speaking with the driver.

As a result of this investigation, 42 year old Midland Alpesh Kumar PATEL has been charged criminally with the following driving offence of Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and further with the provincial offences of Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor, Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on June 26, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Brock THERRIEN – Drunk Driving

(MIDLAND, ON)- Another report of a possible impaired driver by a community member to the OPP Communication Centre this time on Highway 93, Tiny Township has resulted in an impaired driving investigation of a Midland resident by officers of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

At approximately 2:15 p.m. June 5, 2025 an officer was dispatched to investigate the complaint and shortly thereafter located and stopped the suspect red Dodge pick up on Highway 12, Midland near the Detachment.

The officer spoke with the driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation resulting in 30 year old Brock THERRIEN being charged criminally with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on June 19, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Steven REECE – Impaired Operation

(MIDLAND, ON)- A report of a possible impaired driver by a community member to the OPP Communication Centre on Angela Schmidt Foster Road, Midland has resulted in an impaired driving investigation of a Midland resident by officers of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

At approximately 3:08 p.m. June 3, 2025 an officer was dispatched to investigate the complaint and shortly thereafter located the suspect vehicle in a retail parking parking on Simcoe County Road 93, Midland.

The officer spoke with the driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation resulting in 62 year old Steven REECE being charged criminally with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on June 19, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

19 Year Deceased Following Motorcycle Collision

(MIDLAND, ON) A motocycle operator has succumbed to his injuries following a single vehicle motorcycle collision this afternoon.

On May 30, 2025 just before 5:00 p.m., members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended Curry Road in the Town of Midland in response to a report of a collision. Officers located an injured male near a badly damaged motorcycle.

Simcoe County Paramedics performed life-saving measures and transported the operator to a local hospital however he was pronounced deceased. The collision victim is a 19 year-old male of Tay Township.

OPP Traffic Collision Investigation (TCI) members are currently in attendance to assist with the investigation. Curry Road between Midland Point Road and Tay Point Road is expected to be closed late into the evening.

This investigation is on-going however it is not believed that any other vehicles were involved.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP are asking for anyone who may have witnessed, has video/dash cam footage or information relating to the collision and has not yet spoken with police, to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Jurgen SUMANN Was Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON) – A call to the OPP Communication Centre by a community member at approximately 6:10 p.m. reporting a possible impaired driver operating a black Dodge pick up leaving a Simcoe County Road 93, Midland retail store parking lot has led to an OPP investigation involving drugs.

Officers of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commenced an investigation into the complaint which led them to an Olive Street, Midland address where they located the suspect vehicle and spoke with the driver.

The officers entered into an impaired by drug investigation which was continued with the assistance of an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer and as a result of this investigation 58 year old Jurgen SUMANN of Midland has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on the July 10, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment members would like to remind the motoring public to drive sober; this includes drug consumption as well. Impairment by drugs is a crime under the Criminal Code and drivers are subject to the same penalties as those who are charged with driving while impaired by alcohol. A charge of impairment by drugs involves all drugs, be it prescription, over-the-counter and those that are illegal. Donte COUSINEAU Was Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON)- A report at approximately 1:34 a.m. May 27, 2025 to the OPP Communication Centre of a vehicle crash into a parked van resulted in members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to attend and investigate.

Upon arrival at the scene on William Street near John Street, Victoria Harbour, the lone uninjured driver was located, spoken to be the officer at the scene who then commenced an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, 23 year old Donte COUSINEAU of Midland has been charged criminally with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on June 12, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Stephen FARRELL Was Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON)- A report to the OPP Communication Centre of a vehicle that had crashed into the ditch of Simcoe County Road 6 at approximately 9:20 p.m. May 25, 2025 resulted in a prompt response from officers of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Upon arrival at the scene between Concessions Roads 8 and 9 of Tiny Township responding officers, Tiny Township Fire Service and Simcoe County Paramedics located the vehicle on its side with the driver unable to exit the vehicle. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and was triaged at the scene to be transported to an area hospital as a precaution.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officers had entered into an impaired driving investigation which has resulted in 58 year old Stephen FARRELL of Woodbridge being charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And further with the following Provincial Offences

  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
  • Careless driving

Drug Bust, Stolen Property Recovered – Names Released

(MIDLAND, ON) – As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant with the assistance members of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and uniform members at a Seventh Street near Ottawa Street, Midland, residential address at approximately 4:45 a.m. May 23, 2025.

OPP Officers entered the residential address at approximately 4:45 a.m. May 23, 2025, arresting six individuals inside the home and during the following search located a stolen 2022 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, stolen licence plates, a number of edged weapons, and a quantity of Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine.

Two individuals were released at the scene another was released after investigation and three individuals were charged criminally as follows;

(1) Gerrit John GABEL 33 years of Midland with

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

(2) Alexander WOZNICA 33 years of Midland with

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada (two counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

And further with

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive motor vehicle – Perform stunt

Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Accused persons 1-2 have been released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

(3) Natasha PRINCE 26 years of Barrie was arrested on a outstanding warrant for Failure to Attend Court on related charges and held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

Stephen Patrick JOLICOEUR Was Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON) – An officer of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) seized a significant quantity of a substance believed to be Crack Cocaine from the driver of a parked vehicle in a Fifth Street, Midland driveway while patrolling the neighborhood.

The officer was patrolling in the area conducting follow up to an outstanding investigation in the area when the parked vehicle and driver was observed and after speaking to the driver a number of prohibited weapons were located in the vehicle which led to the officer locating a quantity of an illegal substance which was also seized from inside the vehicle.

Charged in relation to this investigation is Stephen Patrick JOLICOEUR 44 years of Midland with the following offence contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act as follows.

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

and further with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition (three counts)

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON) – Officers of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted two impaired driving investigations on May 7, 2025 on North Simcoe area patrolled roadways.

The OPP Communication Centre received a report of a driver passed out behind the wheel at the intersection of the West Service Road and Quarry Road, Tay Township at approximately 8:20 p.m. May 7, 2025.

Attending officers located the vehicle and entered into a impaired driving by drug investigation and transported the driver to Detachment for a further investigation with the assistance of a OPP Drug Recognition (DRE) officer. A scene investigation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of fentanyl, a large edged weapon and a replica BB handgun.

Charged with the following criminal offences is Matthew LECLAIR 42 years of Midland.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

And Further with the following contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on the May 22, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

A second incident involved a driving complaint of a possible impaired driver near 4:00 p.m. May 7, 2025 at the end of Fuller Avenue, Penetanguishene resulted in attending officers locating the suspect vehicle and upon speaking with the driver entered into an impaired by drug investigation. Further investigation at Detachment with the assistance of an OPP Drug Recognition (DRE) officer has resulted in the following criminal charges for Diane RAKOFF 64 years of North York.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on the May 22, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

44 Year Old Repeat Offender Arrested For Break & Enter #3Strikes

(MIDLAND, ON) – What started off as a wellness check at a Manley Street resulted in officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arresting an individual at the scene for a break and enter offence.

Officers attended the residence after a the OPP Communication Centre took a call at approximately 10:32 a.m. May 6, 2025 and upon arrival located an individual who had forcibly entered a rear yard shed at the address.

Philip PICKARD 44 years of Tay Township was arrested at the scene and transported to Detachment to be processed on the following criminal charges.

  • Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

And faces further charges while being held at Detachment after tossing a noxious substance in the cell and holding areas requiring an external cleaning service.

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

Drunk Stunt Driving – Michael FINNAMORE Arrested

(MIDLAND, ON) – An officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 12, Midland for a speeding offence resulting in the commencement of a impaired driving investigation.

The officer conducted the traffic stop of an eastbound vehicle that was travelling in excess of 40 km/hr over the posted 60 km/hr zone at approximately 11:41 p.m. May 2, 2025 near the intersection of Franke Kindred Road and Highway 12 and upon speaking to the driver entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation, Michael FINNAMORE 35 years of Port Severn has been charged criminally with the following driving related offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And Further with

  • Stunt Driving Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on the May 15, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 14 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Drug & Weapons Bust – Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(MIDLAND, ON) – As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a Forest Harbour Parkway, Tay Township residential address at approximately 5:00 a.m. May 2, 2025.

CSCU investigators assisted by uniform OPP officers along with members of the OPP Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU), seized a considerable quantity of drug like substances believed to be cocaine, purple fentanyl, various prescription medications believed to be Oxycodone and Clonazepam, a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun with a fully loaded clip, a quantity of various caliber ammunition a conducted energy weapon (CEW) and an expandable baton. Additionally, a quantity of Canadian currency, a number of cell phones and other related drug paraphernalia were also seized. (See attached photograph).

Investigators have arrested and charged Kevin MUNRO 42 years of Tay Township with the following charges contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and who was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

And further with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

Also charged is a 34 year old female of Tay Township with the following criminal offences who was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
