Attempted Murder – Jason FLUKE Facing Numerous Charges

(MARMORA & LAKE TWP., ON) – Attempted murder and other charges have been laid following a firearms-related incident in Marmora and Lake Township.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, just after 1:00 p.m., an individual reported that shots had been fired at a home on High Shore Road, near Highway 7. No serious injuries were reported.

Officers with the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit converged on the scene.

An individual was located less than an hour later and was arrested without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, which included members of the Central Hastings OPP Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services, Jason FLUKE, age 46 of Marmora and Lake, has been charged with:

  • Attempt to commit murder
  • Discharge a firearm with intent
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Using a firearm while committing an offence
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Forcible entry
  • Break and enter
  • Theft under $5000
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused was held in custody with a bail hearing scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Robert LEONARD – Impaired Driving

(MARMORA, ON) – Officers from the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in an impaired driving investigation.

On Thursday July 31, 2025, at approximately 6:20 p.m., police received a report of a possible impaired driver near the intersection of Matthew Street and Forsyth Street in Marmora, along Highway 7.

The driver was located, arrested and transported to the Central Hastings OPP Detachment for testing.

Robert LEONARD, age 73 from Marmora, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 21, 2025. Additionally, the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

Cocaine Bust – Names Released

(MARMORA AND LAKE TWP., ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit has arrested three people and seized illegal drugs in Marmora.

The investigation began in December 2024.

Street Crime Unit officers, assisted by members of the Central Hastings Detachment, executed a search warrant today (Friday, January 31, 2025), at an apartment on Bursthall Street.

Investigators seized more than 110-grams of suspected cocaine, suspected opioid-containing pills, as well as items typically associated with drug trafficking. Three people were arrested at the scene.

Edward COLLINS, age 62 and Wendy FORD, age 51, both Marmora residents, are charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

Austin HADWYN, age 25 of Chatham, Ontario is charged with failure to comply with a release order.

All three of the accused were held in custody, with bail hearings scheduled for today, January 31, 2025, before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

Attempting To Sell Stolen Property Online Ends With Arrests

(MARMORA & LAKE TWP, ON) – An Oshawa resident and a Marmora and Lake resident are facing charges after a foiled attempt to sell stolen property online.

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 2:45 p.m., officers with the Central Hastings Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded when an individual reported a suspicious ad on an online marketplace.

Officers located the potential sellers and confirmed that the property (an industrial heater) was in fact stolen and had been taken from a construction site in Madoc in November 2024. Two people were arrested at the scene.

Taylor REDMOND, age 34 of Marmora and Lake, was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime-over $5000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Careless use of a weapon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Fail to comply with a probation order
  • Driving while under suspension – two counts

This accused was held in custody until a scheduled bail hearing.

Richard HENWOOD, age 34 of Oshawa was charged with

  • Possession of property obtained by crime-over $5000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order – four counts

This accused was released with conditions by the OPP and turned over to the custody of another police service in relation to a separate investigation. 

The vehicle the two individuals arrived in was towed from the scene.

Fatal Sea-Doo Incident

(MARMORA AND LAKE, ON) – One person is deceased after a collision on Crowe River.   

On July 20, 2024, just before 3:00 p.m., Central Hastings OPP, Marmora and Lake Fire Department and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services responded to a collision involving two personal watercraft (Sea-Doos) on Crowe River, near Crowe Lake, Marmora and Lake. 

The initial investigation indicates that a Sea-Doo with two occupants struck the rear of another Sea-Doo that also had two occupants. As a result of the collision, the operator of the Sea-Doo in front was transported to the hospital by ambulance with serious injuries and despite life-saving efforts, the 40-year-old male passenger from Quinte West was pronounced deceased.

The four occupants were wearing life jackets at the time of the collision.

The collision remains under investigation.

Crack Cocaine Bust

(MARMORA AND LAKE TWP., ON) – Two people face drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop in Marmora and Lake Township.

Members of the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a rental car on June 5, 2024, around 6:30 p.m., on Highway 7.

Officers saw cannabis in the area of the driver, resulting in a search of the vehicle. They seized crack cocaine, cannabis, over $3500 in cash and multiple cell phones.

Sydney BUNKUNA, age 25 of North York, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 – two counts
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

This accused was held for a bail hearing on June 6, 2024, before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

Jayanne SAUNDERS, age 19 of Scarborough, has been charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Cannabis Control Act with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive a vehicle with cannabis readily available

This accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville June 24, 2024.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(MARMORA & LAKE TWP, ON) – The Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges after responding to a disturbance at the Marmora and Lake Public Library.

Officers responded to the reported disturbance on April 18, 2024, shortly before 2:30 p.m. when a man was reported to be causing a disturbance and trying to get in, even though the library was closed.

Officers located the individual who became belligerent and resisted officers’ attempts to speak with him. When officers attempted to take the male into custody, he resisted. During a later interaction, one officer was bitten by the individual and an attempt was made to bite another officer.

Jayden VAN ALLEN, age 22 of Marmora and Lake, has been charged with:

  • Assaulting a peace officer – two counts
  • Causing a disturbance – two counts
  • Fail to comply with a Probation Order – three counts

The accused was held in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled before the Ontario court of Justice in Belleville on April 19, 2024.

The accused also has two outstanding warrants in other parts of Ontario, as well as one in New Brunswick.

Cheryl JACKSON – Assault & Theft

(Marmora and Lake, ON) – On the 03rd of March 2024, members of the Central Hastings detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an address in Marmora regarding a theft and an assault. Officers attended and arrested one individual who was also wanted on outstanding warrants.

As a result of the Investigation, Cheryl JACKSON, 63 years of age from Marmora Ontario has been charged with assault and Theft under $5000.

JACKSON was later released on an undertaking to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on the 28th of March 2024.
