Commercial motor vehicle (CMV) collisions carry unique risks. Due to the size and weight of these large vehicles, when they are involved in a collision – especially on a highway – the outcome can be catastrophic. CMVs can weigh more than 60,000 kg. When combined with speeds ranging from 80 to 105 km/h, these vehicles generate significant momentum and energy, giving them the potential to cause extensive loss of life, injuries and property damage. The OPP recognizes that there are many safe, responsible CMV drivers who contribute to safe roads in Ontario.
