Kyle WOOD – Impaired Operation

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On August 16, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol duties on Highway 10 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

A traffic stop was initiated, and officers detected signs of impairment from the driver. An Approved Screening Device was administered, resulting in a FAIL. The driver was arrested and transported to the Markdale OPP Detachment for further testing.

Kyle WOOD, 33-years-old, of Grey Highlands, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Automobile Insurance Act Offences:

·      Operation while impaired- (80 plus) CC

·      Adult Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit HTA

·      Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted limit HTA

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance CAIA

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 4, 2025.

John PINIOTES Was Arrested Again

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON)- On August 12, 2025, at approximately 11:34 p.m., members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Grey Road 4 and Concession 2 in Grey Highlands. The vehicle, a black Dodge Ram pickup, was reportedly driving erratically and swerving across lanes.

Police later located a vehicle matching the description and attempted a traffic stop. The driver failed to comply and fled from police before crashing. The lone occupant was taken into custody without further incident. The driver sustained minor injury. No injuries to officers or damage to police vehicles were reported.

Grey Road 4 was temporarily closed between Highway 10 and West Back Line for several hours and has since re-opened.

John PINIOTES, 41-years-old, of Mississauga, has been charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:

  • Fail to comply with release order (Three Counts) Criminal Code
  • Flight from peace officer – Criminal Code
  • Dangerous operation – Criminal Code
  • Operation while prohibited (Two Counts) – Criminal Code
  • Driving while under suspension (Four Counts) – Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 13, 2025 for a bail hearing.

Jaspreet BAINS – Assault, Hit & Run, Etc.

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON)– An Etobicoke resident is charged following multiple reports of an erratic driver in Grey Highlands on July 14, 2025.

On July 14, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple reports from concerned motorists regarding a vehicle driving erratically northbound along Highway 10 in Grey Highlands.

Witnesses described the vehicle weaving dangerously through traffic and causing damage to several vehicles. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle on Highway 6-10, just north of Chatsworth. The driver was taken into custody.

Jaspreet BAINS, 31-years-old, of Etobicoke, has been charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:

  • Dangerous Operation, CC
  • Flight from Peace Officer, CC
  • Operation While Impaired, CC
  • Assault Peace Officer, CC (Two Counts)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Fail to Display Two Plates, HTA
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt, HTA
  • Fail to Stop for Police, HTA

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 27, 2025.

Brendan O’SULLIVAN – Drunk Driving

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – An individual from Newcastle, Ontario is facing impaired driving-related charges stemming from multiple traffic complaints on Highway 10, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

On Friday, June 20, 2025 at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to multiple reports of a possible impaired driver on Highway 10, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. Grey Bruce OPP were able to locate the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop.

Brendan O’SULLIVAN, 41-years-old, of Newcastle, is charged with:

·        Operation while Impaired – Alcohol

  • Operation while Impaired – 80 plus

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on July 24, 2025.

Ashley GREENE – Impaired Driving

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – An individual from Mono, Ontario is facing impaired driving-related charges stemming from a single motor vehicle collision that had occurred on Grey Road 9, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, at approximately 11:36 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Grey Road 9 near Road 57A, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. The driver had crashed into the ditch. There were no injuries.

Ashley GREENE, 36-years-old, of Mono, is charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol
  • Operation while Impaired – 80 plus

Weapon & Drug Bust

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – A nightshift Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program conducted by the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) resulted in the seizure of multiple illegal drugs and a handgun. Two individuals have been arrested, and several charges have been laid.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., Grey Bruce OPP were conducting a RIDE program in the Municipality of Grey Highlands when the first vehicle that entered the RIDE check was further investigated.

Arian ZAMAN 25-years-old of Toronto, is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Adult Carry Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Adult Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Adult Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was firearm
  • Adult Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Adult Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking (3 counts)
  • Adult Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

Rune Nahj MATHURIN 31-year-old of Toronto, is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Adult Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking (3 counts)
  • Adult Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Adult Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was firearm
  • Adult Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

The accused are schedule for a bail hearing on May 12, 2025, before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

Ashley NEWMAN Was Arrested Again #3Strikes

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – One person has been charged following a robbery investigation.

On March 20, 2025, at approximately 9:10 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a robbery at a gas station located on Toronto Street in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Charged with the following offences is 38-year-old, Ashley NEWMAN, of no fixed address:

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Failure to comply with release order

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on April 16, 2025.

Portion Of HWY 10 Closed Due To Weather

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are advising the public that Highway 10 between Grey Road 4 in Flesherton and Grey Road 12 in Markdale is closed due to weather conditions and collisions.

The OPP is reminding motorists that if you do have to travel to pack an emergency kit including food, water, blankets and a cell phone charger. If you find yourself in the ditch, remain in your vehicle and call the police.

Robert Schmitz – Impaired Driving

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On October 31, 2024, at 5:42 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a traffic complaint of an impaired driver on Highway 10 in Markdale, Grey Highlands.

Robert Schmitz, 26, of Melancthon was charged with:

·      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

·      Breach of recognizance (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on December 5, 2024.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it. The OPP relies on the public to report crime. Impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently.

Stolen Vehicles Recovered – Names Released

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – Three individuals are facing charges after a building was broken into and three vehicles were stolen from a municipal property in Grey Highlands.

On July 7, 2024, at 6:47 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report that three Grey Highlands Municipality vehicles were stolen from a property in Grey Highlands. It was determined that the suspects gained access to the building through the main doors and gained access to keys to the vehicle. The vehicles had a GPS tracking system equipped and the complainant was able to track the vehicles to a property on Story Book Park Road in the Municipality of Meaford.

Police arrested two individuals at the scene.

Travis Rutledge, 35-years-old of South Bruce was charged with the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (two counts)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

James Farrow, 50-years-old of Georgian Bluffs was charged with the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (two counts)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

On July 7, 2024, at 8:36 a.m., the complainant advised police that they were GPS tracking their third stolen vehicle which was in Amaranth. The Dufferin Couty attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle at which the vehicle fled. A short time later, Wellington OPP located the vehicle in Hillsburgh and arrested one individual. 

As a result, Christina Langridge, 39-years-old of Grey Highlands was charged with the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Flight from peace officer

The accused parties were held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

On July 9, 2024, the police received further information and as a result, Christina Langridge was arrested and released for the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (two counts)
  • Mischief over $5000
  • Trespassing at night
  • Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 8, 2024.

Two individuals remain outstanding.

Troy Wright Was Arrested

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – One individual is facing charges after the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle hauling a trailer with no lights on.

On May 31, 2024, at 9:32 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol on Grey Road 13 in Grey Highlands when they observed a motor vehicle hauling a trailer and the trailer had no lights on. The officer conducted a traffic stop. As police were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver provided a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD) which registered a fail. The driver was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Troy Wright, 27-year-old from Grey Highlands was charged with the following:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      No red light on rear of trailer

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 27, 2024.

Hit & Run – Anonymous 89 Year Old Driver Runs Down Pedestrians In Crosswalk

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – Two youth were treated for minor injuries after a collision in Markdale.

On March 21, 2024, at 10:36 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a collision between a vehicle and two pedestrians that occurred at the intersection of Toronto Street North and Grey Road 12 in Markdale, and that the driver has left the scene. 

Police attended and determined that the pedestrians were crossing at the crosswalk when the vehicle struck them. The pedestrians were treated at the scene for minor injuries and not transported to hospital. Police canvassed the area for video surveillance to identify the driver and vehicle. 

An 89-year-old of driver from the Municipality of Meaford has been charged with:

·      Fail to yield to pedestrian on roadway

·      Fail to remain

·      Fail to report accident

Stephen Gordon – Drunk Driving, Trespass, Etc.

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On February 24, 2024, at 3:18 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter in progress on the 12th Concession B in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

The OPP attended and located an individual inside a workshop. The individual told police that he drove there. Police located the individual’s vehicle on the roadway. While officers were speaking to the individual, the individual was displaying signs of impairment.

Stephen Gordon, 24-year-old from Grey Highlands was charged with:

·      Trespass at night

·      Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 21, 2024.
