Ruth CLAY – Drunk Driving

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – Two impaired drivers were removed from Wellington County roadways over the weekend.

On January 16, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a two-vehicle collision on Tower Street South in Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Ruth CLAY, a 59-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Careless driving

Neither of the involved drivers sustained injuries.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on January 27, 2026.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Additionally, on January 17, 2026, at approximately 12:00 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP Traffic Management Unit was conducting proactive traffic enforcement on Main Street South in Mount Forest, when they encountered a vehicle suspected of being operated by an impaired driver.

As a result of the investigation, Alexander BOWIER, a 36-year-old from Mount Forest, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on January 27, 2026.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Carly GAMBLE-KNECHTEL Was Arrested Again

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – Two Fergus residents have been charged following a traffic stop on in Fergus.

On December 21, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting proactive traffic enforcement on St. Patrick Street West in Fergus when they located a vehicle to be committing an offence under the Highway Traffic Act.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Amber light – fail to stop
  • Drive while under suspension
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was released from police custody and will appear before the Provincial Offences Court in Guelph on a later date.

Additionally, passenger, Carly GAMBLE-KNECHTEL, a 32-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.

Dylan BARNES – Drunk Driving

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – Three impaired drivers were removed from Wellington County roadways over the weekend.

On December 12, 2025, at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on St. Andrew Street West in Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Dylan BARNES, a 31-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

There are no reported injuries.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on December 23, 2025.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Additionally, on December 14, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Wellington OPP Traffic Management Unit conducted a traffic stop on Parkside Drive West in Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Andrew CROLL, a 55-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on December 23, 2025.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Finally, on December 14, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the Wellington OPP responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision with a tree on the lawn of a residence on Eramosa-Erin Townline in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

As a result of the investigation, Gursharn Singh TATHGAR, a 29-year-old from Guelph, is charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

The accused did not sustain any reported injuries.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on January 2, 2026.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Two From Fergus Arrested – VANDERKEMP & BEATTIE

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – Two drivers have been arrested for impaired driving in Fergus yesterday.

On November 25, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) conducted a traffic stop of a suspected impaired driver at Parkside Drive West and St. David Street North in Fergus.  

As a result of the investigation, William BEATTIE, a 61-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 9, 2025.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Just four hours later, on November 25, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP TMU received information from a neighbouring police service of a suspected impaired driver. Police located the driver on Sideroad 10 outside of Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Michiel VANDERKEMP, a 48-year-old from Fergus, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 9, 2025.

Christopher SUDAK Was Arrested Again

(PUSLINCH TOWNSHIP, ON) – A Fergus resident has been charged with several offences following a RIDE check traffic stop.

On October 9, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit was conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Gordon Street in Fergus, when they came across a prohibited driver.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher SUDAK, a 44-year-old from Fergus, was charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while prohibited – legal restriction from any other Act of Parliament or Provincial Law
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

40 Year Old From Fergus Arrested

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – One individual has been charged with impaired driving following a collision in Guelph-Eramosa.

On October 8, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a report of a motorist driving erratically before causing a collision on Highway 7 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

As a result of the investigation, Shane BURTON, a 40-year-old from Fergus, was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on October 21, 2025.

There were no reported injuries resulting from this collision.

School Bus Vs Parked Car Collision – 30 Children On Bus, 73 Year Old Charged

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-motor vehicle collision, involving a school bus and a parked vehicle.

On September 23, 2025, at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a school bus colliding into a parked vehicle on Black Street, within Fergus.

There were approximately 30 children on the school bus, no injuries were reported. The parked vehicle was unoccupied.

As a result of the investigation, a 73-year-old of Fergus is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Change lane – not in safety.

25 Year Old From Fergus Charged

(MAPLETON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges Fergus resident with stunt driving, stemming from a traffic stop.

On September 13, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP Traffic Management Unit were performing a proactive traffic enforcement initiative and observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, to which a traffic stop was initiated on Jones Baseline within Mapleton Township.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old of Fergus is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
  • Fail to notify change of address

Anyone charged with ‘drive motor vehicle – perform stunt’ receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court – Guelph, at a later date

Do You Recognize These Theft Suspects?

(FERGUS, ON) – On Friday April 11, 2025, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a theft that had occurred on April 10, 2025, at approximately 4:35 p.m. at a business located on St. David Street North in Fergus.

Two involved individuals described as one female and one male entered and exited the store separately, both filling shopping carts with product and grocery items. The male walked out the front doors near the produce area with no attempt to pay. The female placed the product into a rolling laundry hamper and walked out past the register area making no effort to purchase. Both parties were observed walking to a white Ford SPE.

The total amount of stolen property is approximately $1100.00.
