61 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver involved in a single vehicle collision with impaired operation in the Township of Essa.

On March 19, 2025, shortly after 4:00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a single motor vehicle in the ditch in the area of Underhill Court and 5th line in the Township of Essa. No injuries were reported. 

Upon arrival the driver Laura DI VALENTIN, 61-years-old of Essa Township, displayed obvious signs of impairment and was arrested at 4:36 p.m. for the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on May 1, 2025, to answer to the charges.

40 Year Old From Dundalk Arrested

ESSA, ON) – Officers from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after stopping at a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program in the Township of Essa.

On March 4, 2025, shortly after 11:30 pm, Nottawasaga OPP Officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Brentwood Road. A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. program and an officer spoke with the driver. After a brief conversation with the driver, the officer determined they were under the influence of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a “Fail” at which point they were arrested.

Ante HRKAC 40-years-old from Dundalk, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 3, 2025.

Tomislav MIHNJAK – Drunk Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one driver for driving while impaired in Essa Township.

On March 2, 2025, shortly before 7:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a passenger vehicle swerving all over the road, veering into oncoming lanes.

An officer was able to locate the vehicle and safely initiated a traffic stop on Commerce Road. The officer issued an Approved Screening Device demand (ASD). Subsequently the driver provided a sample which resulted in a “Fail”. 

At 7:40 p.m., the driver: Tomislav MIHNJAK 48 years-old, of New Tecumseth, was arrested and charge with:  

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on April 3, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Michael STRATTON Facing Numerous Charges

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one driver for driving while impaired in Essa Township.

On February 20, 2025, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to assist a member of the OPP Central Region TIME team (Traffic Incident Enforcement Management) who was on general patrols in Angus when the officer attempted to stop a vehicle who registered an ALPR (Automated Licence Plate Recognition system) hit for being a suspended driver, the driver failed to stop for the officer and entered into Base Borden.

Officers were able to locate the driver in the vehicle with the assistance of the Military Police and as a result the driver was also arrested for impaired driving consuming nearly four times the legal limit.

At 5:51 p.m., the driver: Michael STRATTON 43 years-old, of Tottenham, was arrested and charge with:  

• Dangerous operation

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Flight from peace officer

• Driving while under suspension – Two Counts

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor- Two Counts

The accused was charged recently with two previous counts of impaired operation offences and as a result was held for a bail hearing.

Brent Christopher REMY Was Arrested

(ESSA, ON)- The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person in connection to a stolen vehicle located in the Township of Essa.

On February 11, 2025, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP officers were conducting general patrols in the area of Massey Street in Angus when officers received an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) alert on a black Kia Seltos returning as stolen out of Hamilton.

Officers located a lone male party near the vehicle and investigated. Upon completion of the investigation, the male party was placed under arrest.

Brent Christopher REMY, a 42-year-old, male of Toronto was charged with the following:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada- Two Counts

The accused has been released and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 20 2025.

Drug Deal Turns Into Carjacking Attempt – 4 Arrested

(ESSA, ON)- The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit have laid charges on four individuals in relation to an attempted carjacking in Essa Township on January 30th.

On January 30, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. members of the Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) were in the Town of Angus when officers observed a drug deal between the Accused and Victim.

The Accused parties attempted to forcefully remove the Victim from their vehicle but were unsuccessful. The victim escaped with their vehicle travelling south bound on Mill Street in Angus. The Accused parties pursued the victim at high rates of speed weaving in and out of heavy traffic. CSCU officers with the assistance of frontline members intervened and placed 3 parties under arrest.

On February 3rd, 2025, a 4th Accused was arrested and held for bail.

As a result of the investigation:

Kelsey LANG, 29-years-old from Cookstown was charged with:

  • Robbery with Intent,

 Was released on a form 10 Undertaking to appear before the courts on March 6 2025

James HAMILTON, 28-years-old from Innisfil was charged with:

  • Robbery with Intent
  • Dangerous operation
  • Driving while under suspension – two counts

 Was held for a bail hearing and was released on a release order to appear before the courts on February 27 2025.

Christopher LANG, 28-years-old from Vaughn was charged with:

  • Robbery with Intent
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

Was held for a bail hearing and is to appear before the courts February 4 2025.

Robert PALFREY, 62-years-old from Barrie was charged with:        

  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Cocaine

Was released on a form 10 Undertaking to appear before the courts on March 13 2025.

COSENTINO – Impaired Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On January 10, 2025, shortly before 11:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP received a call from another driver that there was a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 89 and County Road 56, in Essa Township.

The Officer arrived on scene shortly after, locating a grey 4 door passenger vehicle on the northbound side of County Road 56, near the east side ditch. Two occupants were in the vehicle at the time and were able to exit with no injuries.

An ASD demand was issued and as of a result of the investigation the driver,

Marco COSENTINO, 29 years-old, of Vaughn, was charge with:  

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driver fail to surrender licence

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on February 27, 2025, to answer to the charges.

One Arrested Following Break & Enters

(ESSA, ON) – As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), ) with assistance from the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) have made an arrest after several break and enters occurred at businesses and residences in Angus.

On December 30, 2024, police received a call for a break and enter at a local business in Angus. The two suspects broke the front door glass, stole items and fled the scene. 

In the early morning of December 31, 2024, shortly before 4:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at the Ultramar gas station and Uplift Cannabis store located at 165 Mill Street, in the Township of Essa. Suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects also attended several other businesses smashing front doors making entry into each establishment

On December 31 shortly before midnight, officers attended for another break in Angus at Angus Variety located at 9 Margaret Street, in the Township of Essa. Where Suspects had fled the scene prior to police arrival. Video footage was obtained from several businesses showing descriptions of two suspects.

On January 6th, 2025, Police responded to several break and enters on Brentwood Road where power tools and other items were stolen from the residences sheds.

As a result, on January 9, 2025, shortly before1:00 p.m. officers arrested and charged Keith JAMES also known as Keith LEDYIT 49-years-old at 62 Brentwood Road with the following:

  • Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence – 8 counts
  • Obstruct Police
  • Breach of Probation – 9 counts

The accused has been held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on January 10, 2025, to answer to the charges.

MARTYN – Drunk Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On January 7, 2025, shortly 5:00 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP received a call for a single motor vehicle collision on County Road 56, just North of the 20th Sideroad in Essa Township.

The Officer arrived on scene shortly after, located a white 4 door passenger vehicle in the ditch on County Road 56. An ASD demand was issued and as of a result of the investigation the driver,

Elaina MARTYN, 29 years-old, of Essa, was charge with:  

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Resist Peace Officer

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on February 6, 2025, to answer to the charges.

HARRIS Arrested – Cocaine A Factor

(ESSA, ON) – As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), from Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have made an arrest in relation to several drug related offences, in the Township of Essa.

In late 2024 Nottawasaga CSCU initiated a drug trafficking investigation after receiving information regarding a male trafficking drugs in the town of Angus. 

On January 3, 2025, Officers observed the accused conduct multiple drug transactions in the Township of Essa. As a result, officers conducted a traffic stop arresting the accused on County Road 10.

Nottawasaga CSCU officers then conducted a subsequent search of the accused and his vehicle, locating and seizing the following items:

A functioning Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW),12 grams cocaine (Valued at approx. $1200), $1550 cash, a baseball bat , 3 scales, packaging used to package drugs, and drug paraphernalia.

Officers have arrested and charged the following male contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, The Controlled Drug and Substances Act and The Highway traffic Act.  

Wayne HARRIS 62-years-old of Essa was charged with the following:

• Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

• Trafficking in Schedule I substance- Cocaine

• Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon at Unauthorized Place

• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

• Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada

• Fail to notify change of address

• No clear view to front

• Operate unsafe vehicle

• Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

• Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates

• Drive with improper headlights

The accused was held for a bail hearing appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on January 6th, 2025.

LAMPARD – Impaired Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On December 17, 2024, just before 8:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP received a call for a traffic complaint North Bound on County Road 10 towards Mill Street in Essa township. A black 4 door passenger vehicle was swerving and unable to maintain the lane almost causing several collisions.

The Officer located the vehicle shortly after on County Road 90 East of Angus swerving in and out of the lines. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as of a result of the investigation the driver,

Tyler LAMPARD, 29 years-old, of Mulmur, was charge with:  

• Adult Operation while Impaired- alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on January 16, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Christian VALIANT – Drunk Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On December 8, 2024, just before 4:00 a.m., a Nottawasaga OPP officer was conducting general patrols South Bound on County Road 27, when a passenger vehicle travelling North Bound suddenly crossed over the lane towards the Officers vehicle having to avoid a collision.

The Officer continued to follow the vehicle for a moment observing speeds to be 60 km/hr. in a posted 80km/hr. zone. the vehicle continued to cross over the center lane into live traffic. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as of a result of the investigation,

Christian VALIANT, 28 years-old, of Scarborough, was charge with:  

• Adult Operation while Impaired- alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on January 9, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Robert MALONE – Hit & Run, Drunk Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On November 25, 2024, just before 9:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver, in the area of Willoughby Rd, between Greenwood Drive and 5th Line. The caller stated someone had driven across their lawn and struck a fire hydrant.

As a result of the investigation, Robert MALONE, 60-years-old, of Angus, was charged with:  

• Adult Operation while Impaired- alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

• Fail to report accident

• Fail to report damage to property on highway

• Fail to remain

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on January 2, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Mitchell MORGAN – Impaired Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On November 16, 2024, just before 11:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to an traffic complaint of an abandoned motor vehicle running in the ditch around 30th Sideroad in the Township of Essa. Upon arrival, one male was located inside the motor vehicle asleep behind the wheel.

As a result of the investigation, Mitchell MORGAN, 19, of Owen Sound, was charged with:  

• Adult Operation while Impaired- alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on December 12, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Fatal Collision

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a two-vehicle fatal collision in Essa Township.

On November 14, at approximately 8:32 p.m., members of the Nottawasaga OPP, New Tecumseth Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedics responded to a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a transport truck on Highway 89 between 8th Line and 9th Line.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle and transport truck were travelling in opposite directions on Highway 89 before colliding head on. Sadly, the driver of the passenger vehicle, an 82-year-old from Newmarket, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the transport truck did not sustain injuries.

The road was closed between 8th Line and 9th Line while the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team processed the scene, and was re-opened at 3:02 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage in the area between 8:00 p.m. and 8:32 p.m. to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
