Drug Bust – Names Released

(ESPANOLA, ON) – The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged two people with drug related offences following the execution of a drug warrant.

On November 5, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., OPP members from the North East Region Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the Canine Unit (K-9), executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant on a residence in Espanola.

A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of approximately .19 grams of suspected pink fentanyl with an estimated street value of $60, over 4.5 grams of suspected brown fentanyl with an estimated street value of $1,300, over 2.5 grams of suspected beige fentanyl with an estimated street value of $800.

As a result, Danette BRANDOW, 39-years-old from Espanola, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)

Additionally, Simon BEAUCHAMP, 31-years-old from Mckerrow, was charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
  • Failure to comply with probation order

Both accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sudbury on November 5, 2024. Simon BEAUCHAMP was remanded into custody.

Repeat Offenders Arrested Again – Names Released

(ESPANOLA, ON) – Two males were arrested and charged following a traffic stop that lead police to locating stolen property, a large quantity of drugs, an imitation firearm, and weapons.

On October 29, 2024, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), received a theft call, reporting that a historic bell was stolen from a public school in Massey. On October 31, 2024, police conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle and observed two males inside the vehicle. Further investigation led to officers locating the stolen historic bell, as well as several other items suspected to be stolen.

Additionally, police seized over 35 grams of suspected Fentanyl (estimated street valued of $14,000), over 10 grams of suspected cocaine (estimated street value of $1,000), an imitation firearm, weapons, break and enter tools, and Canadian currency.

As a result, the driver, David ECCLESTON, 38-years-old from Massey, was charged with:

  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – two counts
  • Failure to comply with probation order – two counts
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The passenger, Joseph DEMERS, 40-years-old from Espanola, was charged with:

  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – two counts
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)

Both accused individuals appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sudbury on October 31, 2024, and were remanded into custody.

Meth Bust – Names Released

(ESPANOLA, ON) – Two individuals have been charged following a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township that led to the seizure of suspected methamphetamine tablets and an imitation firearm.

On October 28, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a person known to them as being a suspended driver get into the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The driver then proceeded westbound on Highway 17 near McKerrow. A traffic stop was initiated, and police observed two individuals inside the vehicle. Further investigation led to officers locating over 900 tablets of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $4,500, and an imitation firearm inside the vehicle.

As a result, the driver, Brandon FOURNIER, 25-years-old from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Driving while under suspension – two counts

The passenger, Johnathon TRUDEAU, 42-years-old from Spanish, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Failure to comply with probation order – two counts
  • Failure to comply with release order

Both accused individuals appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sudbury on October 28, 2024 and were remanded into custody.

$29,000 Drug Bust – Names Released

(ESPANOLA, ON) – The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged multiple individuals with drug and weapon offences.

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Manitoulin OPP were conducting general patrol on Highway 6 in Espanola when they observed a vehicle travelling northbound. Officers conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Upon speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, police could smell an odour of cannabis. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and its occupants. During the search police located a loaded handgun, approximately $7,000 in Canadian currency, approximately 195 grams of suspect cocaine, and suspected hydromorphone and oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of $29,000. All occupants of the vehicle were subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Kaleb BORDEN, 22-years-old from Thornhill has been charged with:

  • Possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
  • Transport firearm in a careless manner
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts
  • Failure to comply with undertaking – two counts

Ashley CORBIERE-MCLEAN, 21-years-old from M’Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with:

Drug Bust at RIDE

(ESPANOLA, ON) – The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged multiple individuals for drug related offences after stopping a vehicle at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.

On July 19, 2024, shortly after 11:00 p.m., the Manitoulin OPP was conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 6 near Old Webbwood Road in Espanola. A vehicle was stopped at the R.I.D.E. program as it was determined one of the vehicle passengers was wanted. The passenger was subsequently arrested.

Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located a large quantity of Canadian currency, along with large quantities of suspected fentanyl, suspected cocaine and suspected methamphetamine. The remainder of vehicle occupants were also arrested and transported to the OPP detachment.

As a result of the investigation, Misty PLUME, 45-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – three counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Sudbury Bail Court on August 1, 2024.

Dante RECOLLET, 22-years-old, and Sabrina TRUDEAU, 26-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory have been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – three counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000

The accused persons were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on September 9, 2024.

Adam SHAWANA, 46-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – three counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Sudbury Bail Court on August 1, 2024.

David SCHOUTEN – Drunk Driving

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged after being stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

On July 13, 2024, shortly after 1:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 6 near Clear Lake Road in Espanola. A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. program and upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, David SCHOUTEN, 59-years-old from Espanola has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on August 6, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Benjaman LEWIS – Drunk Driving

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following a traffic complaint.

On July 5, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a vehicle unable to maintain its lane. Police located the vehicle on Centre Street and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcohol beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Benjaman LEWIS, 40-years-old from Michipicoten First Nation has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on August 6, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Emily ZANINI Was Arrested

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

On June 21, 2024, shortly before 12:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 6 near Foucault Road in Espanola.

A vehicle approached the R.I.D.E. program and did not stop for officers. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle a short distance from the R.I.D.E. program. Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Emily ZANINI, 32-years-old from Sudbury has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

·      Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

·      Driver fail to surrender licence

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

·      Fail to stop for police

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on August 6, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

TRUDEAU Arrested In Drug Bust

(ESPANOLA, ON) – Two people have been arrested and charged after being stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

On April 10, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 6 in Espanola.

While a vehicle was stopped at the R.I.D.E., police observed open alcohol within the vehicle. A search of the vehicle and its occupants was conducted, which led to the discovery of suspected drugs. Police located and seized approximately 56 grams of suspected cocaine and a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $8,000. Both vehicle occupants were subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment.

As a result of the investigation, Kelsie JOCKO, 29-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited device
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

Jeffrey TRUDEAU, 36-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

Sydney BAIRD – Impaired Driving

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following a traffic stop in Espanola.

On April 8, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general patrol in the Town of Espanola. Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on James Street for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Sydney BAIRD, 26-years-old from Baldwin Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – two counts
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on May 6, 2024.

Kenneth LEET – Drunk Driving, Repeat Offender

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One driver has been arrested and charged with impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop in Espanola.

On March 11, 2024, shortly before 10:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol in Espanola. Police conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Algoma Street.

Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Kenneth LEET, 64-years-old, from Manitoulin Island has been charged with:

  • Operation unsafe vehicle
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Driving while under suspension (two counts)
  • Drive with improper headlights
  • Fail to stop for police
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on April 15, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Jeffrey SANTERRE – Impaired Driving, Drive While Suspended, Etc.

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged in Espanola following a call for service.

On March 10, 2024, shortly after 9:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service involving a person slouched over in the driver’s seat of their parked vehicle.

Police located the vehicle in a parking lot and upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey SANTERRE, 49-years-old, from Sudbury has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on April 15, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
