20 Break & Enters – Karoly CSOMBOK, Ferenc KISS & Norbert SZELES

(EASTERN ONTARIO, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Street Crime Unit has arrested three people and resolved 20 commercial break-ins across a large part of eastern Ontario.

The break-ins began in July of this year and continued into September. The thieves would primarily target convenience stores which had closed for the night. The culprits would force their way inside and then take cigarettes and lottery tickets to cash.

The locations included:

  • Ottawa – three
  • Kingston – five
  • Brockville – two
  • Cornwall – two
  • Leeds, Grenville, Russell County, Lennox and Addington, Quinte West OPP areas – eight

As a result of an investigation by the Community Street Crime Unit, in collaboration with the Kingston Police, the Brockville Police Service, the Cornwall Police Services and Ottawa Police Service, as well as multiple OPP detachments, arrest warrants were issued in late October 2025 for three people. The individuals were already in custody in another jurisdiction.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the males were transferred to eastern Ontario and were formally arrested and charged.

Karoly CSOMBOK, age 27 of Etobicoke is charged with:

  • Break and enter – 20 counts
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence – 18 counts
  • Possession of break-in tools – 20 counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Theft over $5000 – 12 counts
  • Theft of a vehicle – three counts
  • Theft under $5000
  • Theft under $5000 from a vehicle
  • Trafficking in stolen goods over $5000 – three counts
  • Disguise with intent – 20 counts
  • Mischief under $5000 – 16 counts
  • Failure to comply with a release order – 11 counts

Ferenc KISS, age 28 of Brampton is charged with:

  • Break and enter – 19 counts
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence – 20 counts
  • Possession of break-in tools – 19 counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Theft over $5000 – 11 counts
  • Theft of a vehicle – three counts
  • Theft under $5000
  • Theft under $5000 from a vehicle
  • Trafficking in stolen goods over $5000 – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Disguise with intent – 19 counts
  • Mischief under $5000 – 16 counts
  • Failure to comply with a release order – 14 counts

Norbert SZELES, age 20 of Toronto, is charged with: 

  • Break and enter – 17 counts
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence – 17 counts
  • Possession of break-in tools – 15 counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Theft over $5000 – 9 counts
  • Theft of a vehicle – 3 counts
  • Theft under $5000
  • Theft under $5000 from a vehicle
  • Trafficking in stolen goods over $5000 – 3 counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Disguise with intent – 16 counts
  • Mischief under $5000 – 13 counts
  • Failure to comply with a release order – 15 counts

The three accused remain in custody.

Hydro Pole Sheared – Richard ZERAN Arrested And Released

(SOUTH GLENGARRY, ON) – One person is facing charges after a stolen car struck and destroyed a hydro pole east of Cornwall.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, shortly after 2:00 p.m., officers with the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene on County Road 2, near Simser Road.

A car had left the roadway and struck a hydro pole, completely shearing it off, leaving power lines hanging approximately a metre above the road. Witnesses reported seeing a man get out of the car and flee on foot.

Initially, officers wanted to ensure the individual was okay following the crash, but officers also learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The OPP Canine Unit was called in to assist with the search and they located the suspect. The individual had no serious injuries as a result of the crash but was transported to hospital as a precaution.

Richard ZERAN, age 56 of Cornwall, has been charged with:

  • Theft of a vehicle
  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Failing to remain at the scene of an accident
  • Failing to report an accident

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on December 3, 2024.

Stolen Vehicles Recovered – Ihor KRAVETS Arrested

(CORNWALL, ON) – A Toronto resident has been charged after stolen vehicles were located in a tractor trailer near Cornwall.

Officers from the Ministry of Transportation initially stopped the transport on shortly before 10:0:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, to ensure the safety of the vehicle. They called in the SD&G OPP and OPP Highway Safety Division when it was discovered that two stolen vehicles were inside the sea container on the trailer.

The two high end vehicles in the sea can had been reported stolen in Toronto in late January.

Ihor KRAVETS, age 61 has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on April 22, 2025.

Human Smugglers Arrested – Names Released

(CORNWALL, ON) – Police have arrested four people after a traffic stop revealed eight individuals concealed in the rear of the vehicle destined for the United States (US).

An ongoing joint forces operation led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), with assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Homeland Security Investigations, and the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS), revealed evidence for a traffic stop under the Excise Act. On January 7, 2025, members from OPP BEST and the RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the City of Cornwall travelling in the direction of the CBSA port of entry. Officers located eight individuals concealed in the back of the vehicle and subsequently charged the driver and passenger of the vehicle under the Criminal Code (CC). Further investigation revealed another two suspect vehicles, which led to the arrest of an additional two individuals.

Charles EDWARDS, age 58 of Akwesasne, George TOOKER, age 54 of Akwesasne, Ngoc Dung LE, age 52 of Brossard, Quebec and Huu Huan NGUYEN, age 43 of Anjou, Quebec have each been charged with conspiracy to violate US law, s. 465(3) CC.

The four accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on February 25, 2025.

The investigation is currently ongoing. The eight individuals found concealed within the vehicle were arrested and charges may be laid if applicable.

3 More Impaired Drivers

(CORNWALL, ON) -The Stormont Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three motorists with impaired driving. 

On September 6, 2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., SD&G officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Vincent Massey Crescent in the city of Cornwall. Further Investigation led to the driver being arrested.       

Meagan HAMILL, aged 34, of South Stormont, was charged with:

•             Operation while impaired – alcohol

•             Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•             Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on October 22, 2024.

On October 6, 2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., SD&G officers observed a vehicle being driven erratically on County Road 2 in South Glengarry Township.     

Evelyn, LINDHORST aged 72, of South Glengarry, was charged with:

•     Operation while impaired – alcohol

•     Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on November 6, 2024.

On October 6, 2024, shortly before 3:30 a.m., SD&G officers responded to a single vehicle collision vehicle on County Road 22 in North Stormont Township. 

Owen MEKKER aged 18, of North Stormont, was charged with:

•     Operation while impaired – alcohol

•     Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•     Failure to stop after accident

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on October 31, 2024.

                            STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE RECOVERED

(SOUTH DUNDAS, ON) – Members of the Stormont, Dundas (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recovered a stolen vehicle on highway 401, South Dundas township.

On, October 7, 2024, shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers from SD&G, received information about a stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on highway 401 in the South Dundas Township. The vehicle was later observed and subsequently stopped without incident. The 2023 Corvette was stolen from the GTA.

Yakoud Nedjmeddine BENBELKACEM, 21-years-old from Montreal Quebec and Younes JADOIL, 18-years-old from Longueuil Quebec, were charged with:

•     Theft of Motor Vehicle

•     Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Both accused remains in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on a later date.
