Hwy 6 Drunk Driving Arrest

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On December 24, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m. an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment initiated a traffic stop on Highway 6, near Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Wayne A. Hamilton, 43 years-old of Guelph, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on January 7, 2025.

SUDAK Arrested At RIDE

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On December 24, 2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Orangeville Road, Fergus.

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety. As a result of the investigation, Christopher J. SUDAK, of Guelph, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Possess Licence While Prohibited contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on January 10, 2025.

Stratford Resident Faciogn Assault Charge – Name Released

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest a Stratford resident in relation to a Criminal investigation within the Town of Elora.

On December 13, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of a disturbance at the Community Centre within the Town of Elora. Police, alongside other emergency services were dispatched and attended the scene.

As a result of the investigation, a James PETRIE, a 54-year-old from Stratford was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Assault

The accused was arrested on scene and has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on January 17, 2025.

Stratford Resident Facing Assault Charge – Name Released

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrest a Stratford resident in relation to a Criminal investigation within the Town of Elora.

Sahil CHADHA Facing Numerous Charges

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On December 8, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m. members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment attended the scene of a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 7, Nichol Township.

As a result of the investigation, Sahil CHADHA, 27 years-old of Brampton, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Driver fail to surrender licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail to properly wear seatbelt contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor licence and Control Act
  • Drive motor vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available contrary to the Cannabis Control Act
  • Fail to surrender insurance card contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on December 17, 2024.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On November 23, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m. members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment attended the scene of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Forfar Street, Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle D. ROWE, 40 years-old of Fergus, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

There were no injuries as a result of the collision.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on December 6, 2024.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

(MINTO, ON) – On November 24, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m. an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment initiated a traffic stop on Elora Street South, Harriston.

As a result of the investigation, Blake KAVANAGH, 21 years-old of Hanover, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on December 3, 2024.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

(MAPLETON, ON) – On November 23, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment initiated a traffic stop on Wellington Road 17, Mapleton.

As a result of the investigation, Cory KING, 43 years-old of Hanover, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety. As a result of the investigation, Jordan KAMPHUIS, 27 years-old of Fergus, was charged with:

Tochi NWACHUKWU – Fraud, Money Laundering, Etc.

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit have charged one individual following a months-long fraud investigation.

In February 2024, a business in Centre Wellington contacted the Wellington County OPP to advise that they had lost approximately $230,000 to a phishing scam. At that time, the investigation was turned over to the Wellington County OPP Major Crime Unit and on October 17th, 2024 a search warrant was executed at a residence in Toronto.

As a result of the investigation, Tochi NWACHUKWU, 31 years old of Toronto has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:

–      Fraud over $5,000

–      Theft over $5,000

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

–      Forgery – two counts

–      Fail to Comply with Probation Order – two counts

–      Disobey Court Order

–      Laundering Proceeds of Crime.

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Abigail TURNER Was Arrested

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County OPP charge Guelph resident with mischief.

On October 3, 2024, shortly before 2:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to Gordon Street within the Town of Fergus for a report of a mischief complaint.

As a result of the investigation, Abigail TURNER, a 29-year-old of Guelph, has been charged under the criminal code with:

  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on November 08, 2024.

Blake COOK – Assault

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – One person is facing a criminal charge after the Wellington County, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of an assault in Centre Wellington.

On September 30, 2024, at approximately 07:00 a.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of an assault at an address on Elora Street, within the town Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, Blake COOK, 36-year-old of Fergus, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with the following offence:

  • Assault, contrary to Sec 266 of the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later time.

Fatal Collision Takes Life Of Cyclist

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On September 17, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious, motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 18, west of Salem. Initial reports indicated that a red pick up truck collided with a cyclist on Wellington Road 18 between Wellington Road 7 and Eighth Line West.

Emergency service responded and the cyclist, a 55-year-old from Elora, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam footage, or anyone with information related to the collision, to call 1-888-310-1122.

The roadway remained closed until early morning hours.
