2 Shot, 1 Arrested

Members of the Brantford Police Service arrested a 23-year-old man from Brampton after two men were shot overnight.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2024, officers with the Brantford Police Service, along with Brant County paramedics, responded to a King Street address, after receiving a call to report a shooting. 

Upon arrival, officers located two adult, male victims inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to medical facilities for treatment where one remains in critical condition.

At 8:45 p.m. the same evening, Brantford police arrested a 23-year-old Brampton man. The suspect was arrested without incident in the area of Sarah Street and Murray Street by members of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team, Patrol Section, and K-9 unit.  

Detectives with the BPS Criminal Investigation Section are now leading the investigation. A firearm believed to have been used in the incident has been recovered. Police are not currently looking for additional suspects and do not believe this to be a random incident.  

The accused will appear in bail court today and is facing charges including aggravated assault and a number of firearm related offences.

This investigation remains ongoing.

Shots Fired – Suspect(s) At Large

The Brantford Police Service are investigating a report of gunshots fired earlier this evening outside a Butcher Crescent residence.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received by the Brantford Police Service to report possible gunfire outside a residence located on Butcher Crescent.

Officers attended to investigate and have obtained a photograph of a suspect vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. Anyone with information that could help to identify the suspect(s) are asked to contact police. 

SUSPECT VEHICLE: The suspect vehicle is described as: a grey, 4-door SUV as shown in the image below.

No physical injuries occurred, area roads remain open, and there is no immediate threat to public safety as a result of the incident.

Brantford Police Daily Update 18Mar2024

Incident:          24-10719

Location:         Market Street South

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a report of a theft and assault at a grocery store located at Market Street South.

It was reported that a man was observed attempting to steal merchandise when he was approached by store security. The accused is then alleged to have assaulted the security guard before fleeing on foot. 

Officers attended and located the accused nearby. Investigation revealed that the accused did not leave the store with any merchandise. 

As a result, a 33-year-old male resident of Brantford stands charged with Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:         Colborne Street

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m., a Brantford police uniform patrol officer located a motor vehicle parked in a Colborne Street motel parking lot which had previously been reported as stolen from a neighbouring jurisdiction.

Officers located a lone female occupying the front passenger seat of the vehicle. The female was arrested, investigation revealed that the woman was wanted on a valid arrest warrant.

As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old female resident of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 

  • Possession of Stolen Goods Over $5,000
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Without Consent

Location:         Buffalo Street

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend the area of Buffalo Street and Washington Street for an assist other service call for service.

Prior to police arrival, information was received that Emergency Medical Services were enroute for a male driver who was reported to have previously overdosed.

Officers arrived on scene and located the accused man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle being tended to by EMS. After being escorted from the vehicle, the male attempted to flee on foot from police.

The accused was arrested by police after a brief foot pursuit. During the arrest, the accused resisted. 

A Drug Recognition Evaluation was completed, and it was determined that the accused was operating a vehicle while impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs. 

Police also learned that the accused is bound by multiple driving prohibition orders. Additionally, it was learned by police that the vehicle had been taken without consent.

As a result, a 30-year-old male resident of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:

  • Resist Arrest
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited x 3
  • Drive While Under Suspension x 3
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent 

The accused was held for bail.
