Noel BOMBERRY- Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Colborne Street East.

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Brant Detachment, initiated a traffic stop with a passenger vehicle after it was found speeding on Colborne Street East, Brant County.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Haldimand Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Noel BOMBERRY, a 28-year-old from Brantford was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit
  • Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 45-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 12, 2024.

Rebecca REES – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an impaired driving incident in Brant County. 

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 2:25 a.m., members of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle that was located on the railway tracks near Broadway Street West and Capron Street in Brant County. 

As a result of investigation, police charged 30-year-old Rebecca REES from Kitchener, with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 6, 2024.

Justin HENDERSON – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Waterford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Indian Line Road.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 12:10 a.m., a member of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol when they stopped a passenger vehicle on Indian Line Road in Brant County. 

As a result of the investigation, Justin HENDERSON, a 30-year-old from Waterford was

charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to surrender licence
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 12, 2024.

Ernesto RAMELLI – Robbery

(BRANT, ON) – A second person has been arrested and charged following a robbery investigation in Brant County.

Ernesto RAMELLI, 48-years-old, from Tillsonburg has been charged with:

  • Robbery with Theft   

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 26, 2024.

On August 4, 2024, members of Brant County OPP began investigating a robbery at Colborne Street West.

It was determined that two individuals entered the victim’s residence and became involved in a physical confrontation with the victim. Both suspects then removed property and fled from the residence into a black vehicle which left in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.

Elizabeth Molly BARTLETT – Robbery

(BRANT, ON) – As a result of an ongoing robbery investigation in Brant County, one individual is facing charges.

At approximately 3:50 a.m., on Sunday, August 4, 2024, members of Brant County OPP responded to a robbery at Colborne Street West.

It was determined that two individuals entered the victim’s residence and became involved in a physical confrontation with the victim. Both suspects then removed property and fled from the residence into a black vehicle which left in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.

Later, officers located one suspect at an address on Aberdeen Avenue in Brantford. The individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 45-year-old, Elizabeth Molly BARTLETT of Brantford:

  • Robbery with Theft  

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 26, 2024.

Investigators have identified the second suspect involved in this incident and are making attempts to locate them. There is no threat to public safety.

Murder – One Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – One individual has been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide in Brant County.

On November 24, 2022, at approximately 12:45 p.m., members of the Brant County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an address on Salt Springs Church Road to investigate a report of a deceased individual.

Investigators have determined the deceased, identified as 82-year-old Gordon OUGHTRED of Brant County, died as result of homicide.

As a result of the investigation, 79-year-old Elfgard OUGHTRED, of Brant County, has been charged with second degree murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on August 16, 2024.

A publication ban has been issued and further information will not be released.

The investigation is being conducted by the Brant County OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Bylaw Overreach Ends With Alleged Assault #FilmThePolice

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – A homeowner was charged after an encounter with an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer at a property in Scotland.

At approximately 1:23 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Brant County Detachment, along with a bylaw officer from the County of Brant Bylaw Enforcement Division, attended a residence on Mount Pleasant Road in Scotland, Brant County, to speak with the homeowner.

While on the premises, the OPP officer was confronted by the homeowner, who was in possession of a weapon during the interaction. The homeowner then returned inside the residence. No injuries were reported.

The West Region OPP Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and Crisis Negotiators were also called to the scene to provide assistance.

The homeowner was later taken into custody without further incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 61-year-old John TUCZYNSKI of Brant County:

  • Assault a Peace Officer with a weapon.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on Friday, September 13, 2024.

 A section of Mount Pleasant Road was closed as officers carried out their investigation.

Blaine BOX – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested an impaired driver at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

On July 11th, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., members of Brant County OPP conducted a traffic stop to check the sobriety of the driver at a RIDE checkpoint on Hagan Road in Brant County.

After speaking with the driver, they were taken into custody without incident and transported to Brant Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Blaine BOX, a 30-year-old from Brant County, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container liquor

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 25th, 2024.

Fatal Motorcycle Vs Deer Collision

(BRANT TOWNSHIP, ON) – One individual is deceased following a collision in Brant Township. The highway has since reopened.

On July 9, 2024, at 6:04 a.m. the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bruce County Paramedic Services and the Walkerton Fire Department responded to a report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a deer. A 68-year-old from Brockton was transported to a local hospital by Bruce County Emergency Services where they were pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim will not be released due to the privacy of the family.

Sideroad 5 South in the Township of Brant was closed between Highway 9 and Bruce Road 2 but has since reopened.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team is assisting with the investigation.

Michael MEADE – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Bishopsgate Road.

On June 6th, 2024, at approximately 07:00 p.m., members of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a passenger vehicle on Bishopsgate Road in Brant County after observing the vehicle driving erratically.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Brant County Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Michael MEADE, a 50-year-old from Brantford was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container liquor
  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 19th, 2024.

Break & Enter – 2 Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – On Monday July 1, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m., members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence on Cockshutt Road in the County of Brant for a reported break and enter.  

Officers attended the location and received information from the victim regarding a suspect on property attempting to steal the victim’s Recreational Vehicle. While at the scene, officers observed a male run out of the property into a forested area. Members of the Emergency Response Team along with the Canine Unit assisted in securing the area. Shortly after, OPP were able to locate and arrest two suspects, without issue.

As a result, Edward BECKHAM, a 28-year-old from Brantford has been charged with the following:

  • Break, Enter Place – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief – Destroy or Damage Property
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

Cheyanne FUREY, a 28-year-old from Brantford has been charged with the following:

  • Break, Enter Place – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief – Destroy or Damage Property
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

Edward BECKHAM has been held into custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 2, 2024. Cheyanne FUREY was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on August 15th, 2024.

Jeremy PEARCE Was Arrested

(Brant, ON) – A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Sour Springs Road.

On June 29, 2024, at approximately 9:40 a.m., a member of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol when a black Ford caught their interest after the officer was alerted by the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system of a possible validation expiry.

A traffic stop was initiated. Upon speaking to the driver and conducting a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) query it was determined that the driver falsely identified themselves.

As a result, Jeremy PEARCE, a 47-year-old of Brantford, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Drive Motor vehicle – No Licence

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 26th, 2024.

Ryan VAN WIEREN Was Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – On June 20, 2024, at approximately 9:44 p.m., a Brant County OPP officer on general patrol observed a black pickup truck traveling northbound on Brant Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was recorded traveling at 165 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, determining that there was alcohol in the driver’s system. The officer then proceeded with an Approved Screening Device test, which the driver failed.

The driver, identified as Ryan VAN WIEREN, a 37-year-old from St. George, was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – 80 plus
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed
  • Speeding – 165 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor: Liquor Licence and Control Act.

VAN WIEREN was released with a court date set for Friday, July 5, 2024, at 9:00 AM at 44 Queen Street in Brantford. His driver’s license was suspended for stunt driving, and he received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS). Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – From June 16, 2024, until June 17, 2024, The Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple incidents involving impaired driving:

Robinson Road Collision (June 16, 2024): On June 16, 2024, at approximately 3:43 p.m., Brant County OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Robinson Road at Highway 24. David Hicks, 49 years old from Toronto, was charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Careless Driving, and Following Too Closely.

Brant County Road 18 Collision (June 16, 2024): On June 16, 2024, at approximately 6:23 p.m., Brant County OPP investigated a collision at Brant County Road 18 near 54 Highway. Liam WEEKES, 28 years old from Brantford, was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), Dangerous Operation, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver, Novice Driver B.A.C. Above Zero, and Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle.

King Edward Street Incident (June 16, 2024): On June 16, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Brant County OPP conducted observed a vehicle that earlier involved in an alcohol related incident while pumping gas. The officer conducted a traffic stop on King Edward Street in Paris, Brant County, where Alexandra YOUNG, 25 years old from Hamilton, was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus).

St. George (June 17, 2024): On June 17, 2024, at approximately 6:24 p.m., Brant County OPP received a call for service regarding a citizen’s arrest of an impaired driver at an address on Beverly Street, St. George. Wayne MARSHALL, 65 years old from Brantford, was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus).

Each individual was charged accordingly and released with a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS). Vehicles involved were impounded for seven days.

The Brant County OPP remains vigilant in enforcing road safety and urges the public to drive responsibly. Reporting any suspected impaired drivers contributes to safer roads for all.

Arrest At High School

(BRANT, ON) – At approximately 10:53 a.m. today, the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance at Paris District High School.

In accordance with standard procedure, the school initiated a hold and secure protocol.

Brant County OPP officers promptly arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. The individual involved in the disturbance was located and taken into custody without incident.

The hold and secure measures were in place for approximately 5 minutes and have since been lifted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. One youth is currently in police custody.
