Michael MEADE – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Bishopsgate Road.

On June 6th, 2024, at approximately 07:00 p.m., members of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a passenger vehicle on Bishopsgate Road in Brant County after observing the vehicle driving erratically.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Brant County Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Michael MEADE, a 50-year-old from Brantford was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container liquor
  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 19th, 2024.

Break & Enter – 2 Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – On Monday July 1, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m., members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence on Cockshutt Road in the County of Brant for a reported break and enter.  

Officers attended the location and received information from the victim regarding a suspect on property attempting to steal the victim’s Recreational Vehicle. While at the scene, officers observed a male run out of the property into a forested area. Members of the Emergency Response Team along with the Canine Unit assisted in securing the area. Shortly after, OPP were able to locate and arrest two suspects, without issue.

As a result, Edward BECKHAM, a 28-year-old from Brantford has been charged with the following:

  • Break, Enter Place – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief – Destroy or Damage Property
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

Cheyanne FUREY, a 28-year-old from Brantford has been charged with the following:

  • Break, Enter Place – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief – Destroy or Damage Property
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

Edward BECKHAM has been held into custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 2, 2024. Cheyanne FUREY was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on August 15th, 2024.

Jeremy PEARCE Was Arrested

(Brant, ON) – A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Sour Springs Road.

On June 29, 2024, at approximately 9:40 a.m., a member of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol when a black Ford caught their interest after the officer was alerted by the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system of a possible validation expiry.

A traffic stop was initiated. Upon speaking to the driver and conducting a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) query it was determined that the driver falsely identified themselves.

As a result, Jeremy PEARCE, a 47-year-old of Brantford, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Drive Motor vehicle – No Licence

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 26th, 2024.

Ryan VAN WIEREN Was Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – On June 20, 2024, at approximately 9:44 p.m., a Brant County OPP officer on general patrol observed a black pickup truck traveling northbound on Brant Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was recorded traveling at 165 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, determining that there was alcohol in the driver’s system. The officer then proceeded with an Approved Screening Device test, which the driver failed.

The driver, identified as Ryan VAN WIEREN, a 37-year-old from St. George, was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – 80 plus
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed
  • Speeding – 165 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor: Liquor Licence and Control Act.

VAN WIEREN was released with a court date set for Friday, July 5, 2024, at 9:00 AM at 44 Queen Street in Brantford. His driver’s license was suspended for stunt driving, and he received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS). Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – From June 16, 2024, until June 17, 2024, The Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple incidents involving impaired driving:

Robinson Road Collision (June 16, 2024): On June 16, 2024, at approximately 3:43 p.m., Brant County OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Robinson Road at Highway 24. David Hicks, 49 years old from Toronto, was charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Careless Driving, and Following Too Closely.

Brant County Road 18 Collision (June 16, 2024): On June 16, 2024, at approximately 6:23 p.m., Brant County OPP investigated a collision at Brant County Road 18 near 54 Highway. Liam WEEKES, 28 years old from Brantford, was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), Dangerous Operation, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver, Novice Driver B.A.C. Above Zero, and Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle.

King Edward Street Incident (June 16, 2024): On June 16, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Brant County OPP conducted observed a vehicle that earlier involved in an alcohol related incident while pumping gas. The officer conducted a traffic stop on King Edward Street in Paris, Brant County, where Alexandra YOUNG, 25 years old from Hamilton, was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus).

St. George (June 17, 2024): On June 17, 2024, at approximately 6:24 p.m., Brant County OPP received a call for service regarding a citizen’s arrest of an impaired driver at an address on Beverly Street, St. George. Wayne MARSHALL, 65 years old from Brantford, was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus).

Each individual was charged accordingly and released with a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS). Vehicles involved were impounded for seven days.

The Brant County OPP remains vigilant in enforcing road safety and urges the public to drive responsibly. Reporting any suspected impaired drivers contributes to safer roads for all.

Arrest At High School

(BRANT, ON) – At approximately 10:53 a.m. today, the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance at Paris District High School.

In accordance with standard procedure, the school initiated a hold and secure protocol.

Brant County OPP officers promptly arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. The individual involved in the disturbance was located and taken into custody without incident.

The hold and secure measures were in place for approximately 5 minutes and have since been lifted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. One youth is currently in police custody.

Justina HESS-HILL Was Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – On May 1st, 2024, at approximately 9:35 p.m., members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting enforcement patrols when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Brant-Oxford Rd. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 134 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The officer conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer gained suspicion that the driver had consumed alcohol. An approved screening device test was administered to determine an approximate Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) for the driver. The test resulted in a fail, and the driver was transported back to the detachment for further testing.

As a result, a 26-year-old individual, Justina HESS-HILL, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired by alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Adult novice driver – BAC above zero
  • Stunt driving
  • Speeding 50+ km/h
  • Drive motor vehicle no licence
  • Fail to surrender licence

The accused has been provided a court date of May 16th to answer to the charges.

King Charles Lost $1,396,163.32 In Brant & Haldimand Counties

(BRANT AND HALDIMAND COUNTIES, ON) – April 25, 2024 – In a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Haldimand OPP, and HSD/TIME, a two-day initiative conducted on April 22 and 25, 2024, resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of unstamped contraband cigarettes in Brant and Haldimand Counties.

A total of 8,422,800 unstamped contraband cigarettes, equivalent to 842.3 cases, were seized during the operation. This significant seizure represents a significant tax loss to both the Province of Ontario and His Majesty the King.

The tax loss to the Province of Ontario is estimated at $1,556,112.30, calculated at $0.18475 per cigarette. Similarly, the tax loss to His Majesty the King is estimated at $1,396,163.32, calculated at $0.16576 per cigarette. The total tax loss recovered from the seizure amounts to $2,952,275.63.

Summary of results in Brant and Haldimand:

  • 8,422,800 unmarked cigarettes seized.
  • Two individuals charged.
  • Four Part III summonses issued for Tobacco Tax Act (TTA) offences.
  • One trailer impounded.

The operation involved two specific stops, yielding significant results:

April 22, 2024 – Haldimand Stop:

Seized: 2 cases and 14 cartons of unmarked cigarettes

Charged: A 62-year-old male from St. Catharines under TTA s. 29(1), 29(2)

April 25, 2024 – Brant Stop:

Seized: 42,000 cartons of unmarked cigarettes (840 cases)

Charged: A 40-year-old male from Brantford under TTA s. 29(1), 29(2)

Impounded: Trailer

The successful outcome of this collaborative initiative highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combatting the illicit tobacco trade and protecting public health and safety. The Ministry of Finance and partnering agencies remain vigilant in their efforts to enforce tobacco taxation laws and prevent the flow of contraband tobacco products in our communities.

25 Year Old From Dundalk Charged Following Collision

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – The involved driver that involved in a three-vehicle collision has sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition.

On April 22nd, 2024, at approximately 7:03 a.m., the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a three-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 24 north in Brant County. Members of Brant County Fire, Brant County EMS and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) also attended the scene.

To assist with the investigation and for the protection of emergency responders, a section of the highway was closed between Glen Morris Road East and Locke Road. The road re-opened at approximately 6:15 p.m., that evening.

The driver from one of the involved vehicles was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

A 25-year-old from Dundalk has been charged with Careless Driving.

Mathew LAIR Was Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – On April 18th, 2024, at approximately 11:06 a.m., members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to investigate fraudulent activity at a business on Grand River Street in Paris.

Members of the business advised the OPP that an individual had attended the financial institution to open an account. Upon request for identification documents, the complainant suspected that the documents provided were fraudulent.

Upon investigation, Police have arrested a charged 48-year-old, Mathew LAIR, from Peterborough with the following offences:

–      Possession of an identity document.

–      Use, deals, acts on forged document.

The accused was released and is to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on June 6, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Fatal 3 Vehicle Collision

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – A three-vehicle collision has claimed the life of one individual.

On April 6, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., members from the Brant detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with assistance from Brant County Fire Services of Burford, as well as Brant County and Oxford County Paramedic Services, responded to a collision involving three vehicles on Highway 403, County of Brant.

The investigation determined that two passenger vehicles and a transport truck were involved in the collision.

A 33-year-old from Milton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Four other occupants of the passenger vehicles were transported to hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the transport truck was not injured.  

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team is assisting with the investigation.

The westbound lanes of Highway 403 were closed for several hours but have since re-opened.

Anyone that witnessed the collision or has information, including dashcam footage, that could assist with this ongoing investigation is asked to contact the Brant County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Rene LAPIERRE – Threats & Firearms Charges

(BRANT, ON) – At approximately 7:05a.m., on March 31, 2024, members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to investigate a mischief complaint at a residence on Flagg Avenue in Paris.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the complainant had been receiving threatening messages from a male individual. Additionally, it was found that the complainant’s vehicle had been damaged by the same individual using a BB gun.

As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Rene LAPIERRE, from Paris has been charged with the following offences.

–      Utter Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm

–      Mischief Under $5000

–      Careless Use of a Firearm

LAPIERRE was taken into custody without issues and held for a bail hearing.

Mandeep SINGH Arrested For Assault

(BRANT, ON) – One individual was charged following an investigation into an assault in Paris.

At approximately 7:51 p.m., on Wednesday, March 19, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Brant County Detachment investigated an assault at an address on Grand River Street, Brant County.

It was determined that two individuals engaged in a confrontation on the premises, leading to the physical assault of one of them. No serious injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following offence is 21-year-old Mandeep SINGH of Brantford:

–      Assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford on May 10, 2024.

John SUTOR – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Brant County resident is facing charges following a traffic stop in Burford, Ontario.

On March 3rd, 2024, at approximately 2:18 p.m., members of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducted general patrol when they observed a vehicle that was possibly involved in a traffic complaint from earlier in the day.

Upon speaking to the driver of the vehicle it was determined that the driver had consumed several alcoholic beverages prior to driving their vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

John SUTOR, 75-years-old of Brant County, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)\

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on March 15, 2024.

Steven DRAGOS – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Brant County resident is facing charges following a traffic stop in Paris, Ontario.

On March 3rd, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., members of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol when they observed suspicious driving behaviour.

Upon speaking to the driver of the vehicle officers had a reason to believe that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

Steven DRAGOS, 34-years-old of Brant County, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on March 21st, 2024.
