20 Year Old Arrested Following Catfish Creek Incident

(BAYHAM, ON) – Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired operation on Catfish Creek.

On Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at approximately 4:11 p.m., police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in Port Bruce.

As a result of the investigation, Alexander SRNICEK, 20-years-old from St. Thomas was charged under the Criminal Code with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Armed Robbery – Agatha HIEBERT Arrested

(BAYHAM, ON) – Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a person from Malahide Township with two criminal offences following a robbery in Bayham.

On July 7, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Elgin OPP responded to a report of a theft in progress at a Heritage Line address in Bayham.

When the suspect was confronted by the victim, they brandished an edged weapon. Police located the accused at an address in the hamlet of Orwell and they were arrested without incident.

Agatha HIEBERT, 40-years-old, of Malahide Township, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Possession of a schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Elgin on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

There is no threat to public safety.

Motorcyclist Sent To Hospital

(BAYHAM, ON) – Elgin County OPP investigating a serious single vehicle collision, which sent a motorcyclist to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On April 23, 2025, at approximately 3:50 p.m., emergency services including members of the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County Paramedic Service and local fire, were dispatched to Richmond Road in the Municipality of Bayham, for a single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle.

The lone rider was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Richmond Street remained closed between James Line and Heritage Line for approximately 6 hours for the investigation. The road has since opened.

Members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

Paul Valliere – Drunk Driving

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin Detachment, has charged an individual following a traffic complaint.

On February 10, 2025, at approximately 4:50 p.m., a member of the Elgin OPP investigated a traffic complaint on Light Line, west of Plank Road in the Municipality of Bayham.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined the driver was impaired.

The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to Elgin County Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Paul Valliere, a 77-year-old from Bayham was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on March 18, 2025.

Henry JANZEN – Impaired Driving

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On November 16, 2024, at approximately 10:25 p.m., the Elgin OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle on Light Line near Bogus Road in the Municipality of Bayham.

No serious injuries were reported.

The lone driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Thomas Detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).

As a result, Henry JANZEN, a 42-year-old from Langton was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on December 31, 2024.

Tyler BUTLER Was Arrested

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On September 27, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., a member of the Elgin OPP stopped a passenger vehicle on Mitchell Road near Heritage Line, Municipality of Bayham receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler BUTLER, a 26-year-old from Oshweken was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code

A 45-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on October 22, 2024.

Dafeit KNELSEN Was Arrested

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin-Middlesex Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and Brant CSCU assisted by Elgin OPP executed a search warrant at a residence in the Municipality of Bayham.

On September 10, 2024, the Elgin OPP initiated a break and enter investigation from an address on Plank Line, Municipality of Bayham. The victim reported that several items had been taken from the property with a total value of more than $30 000.

On September 13, 2024, the victim discovered some of their stolen items at a property on Lakeshore Line, Municipality of Bayham, and contacted the OPP. Following the discovery, a search warrant was sought and executed at the property.

As a result of the executed search warrant, police seized a quantity of suspected stolen property including tools, motor vehicle parts and a marine trailer.

The OPP has charged Dafeit KNELSEN, a 41-year-old from Bayham with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

The accused was held for a bail hearing, remanded into custody until September 18, 2024, but has since been released, and is scheduled to appear in the St. Thomas Ontario Court of Justice on October 8, 2024.

Henry HAMM – Drunk Driving

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located and investigated a vehicle after a Good Samaritan reported a suspected impaired driver in the Municipality of Bayham.

On August 28, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., members of the Elgin County OPP located the vehicle on Plank Road near Heritage Line, Municipality of Bayham.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Elgin OPP, St. Thomas Detachment, for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Henry HAMM, a 36-year-old from Norfolk County was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Driving while under suspension

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on October 22, 2024.

The OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank the individual who contacted police and reported this incident. As a direct result, officers were able to safely locate the vehicle and take the driver into custody.

Ronald ALLENSEN – Drunk Driving

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment arrested an impaired driver at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

On June 29, 2024, members of the Elgin OPP were conducting a RIDE checkpoint on Nova Scotia Line near Chatham Street, Municipality of Bayham. At approximately 10:05 p.m., police stopped a passenger vehicle and checked for driver sobriety.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed a cannabis cigarette within the vehicle, detected signs of alcohol consumption, and administered a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Elgin OPP St. Thomas Detachment for further testing.

The investigating officer also discovered an additional quantity of cannabis within the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Ronald ALLENSEN, 70-year-old from Port Burwell was charged with the following:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Possession of over 30g dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place

·        Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on August 13, 2024.

Martin ZACHARIAS – Impaired Driving

(BAYHAM, ON) – On March 13, 2024, at 7:21 p.m., members of the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to Victoria Street in Bayham Township for the report of a suspicious vehicle. 

Police located the vehicle stationary on the side of the road, at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was asleep at the wheel. It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol and was arrested and transported to the Elgin OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Martin ZACHARIAS, a 68-year-old of Port Burwell, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on April 30, 2024.

The Elgin OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.
