145 in an 80 – GAUHAR

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Stayner driver after they were speeding more than 65km/hr over the limit in West Perth.

On April 18, 2022, just after 2:00 a.m., a police officer stopped a vehicle after it was found to be travelling in excess speed of 145km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

Syed GAUHAR, 31, of Stayner, has been charged with:

–      Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

–      Drive motor vehicle – no license

A 30-day driving suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Hit & Run Under Investigation

(PERTH EAST, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a driver that failed to remain at the scene of a crash on April 18, 2022, around dinner time.

Just before 5:00 p.m., Perth County OPP officers received a report of a fail to remain collision that took place on Line 33 and Road 107, in the Township of Perth East.

The suspect vehicle was parked on the shoulder facing the same direction as the victim. The victim reported that they came to a stop at the stop sign on Line 33 at Road 107, and when they started to accelerate through the intersection to make a turn, the suspect vehicle accelerated down the shoulder and started pulling into the live lane. The victim collided with the suspect vehicle, which subsequently fled the area.

The collision caused damage to the victim’s vehicle, but there were no injuries.

The suspect vehicle is described as a silver 4-door car. Police believe the suspect vehicle will have damage to the driver’s side front door and wheel well area.

3 Arrested – Stolen Vehicle Recovered

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE) – On April 21, 2022 at 3:14 a.m., a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol in Komoka, Middlesex Centre, observed a suspicious vehicle at a business plaza on Glendon Drive.

A check on the vehicle confirmed it had previously been reported as stolen.

As a result three occupants were taken into custody without incident.

Rebecca WALKER, a 25-year-old of no fixed address, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

  • Possession of an identity document
  • Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice (Identity Fraud)
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act

Ryan COURNEYA, a 48-year-old of London, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Jesse CLEWLOW, a 37-year-old of London, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The accused have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date to speak to the charges.

12 Year Old Deceased – Drunk Driver Arrested

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Brant County Detachment arrested and charged and individual on April 11, 2022 in connection to an ongoing fatal motor vehicle collision investigation.

As a result, police charged 26-year-old Darris James WILSON of Brant County, Ontario with the following offences:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),

·      Operation causing death,

·      Operation causing bodily harm,

·      Dangerous operation causing death, and

·      Dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford at a later date.

On Friday February 11, 2022 at approximately 4:24 p.m., the Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), County of Brant Fire Department and Brant-Brantford Paramedic Services responded to Oakland Road in Brant County for a two-vehicle collision.

One person remains in critical condition at an area hospital and a second individual has succumbed to her injuries, following a two-vehicle collision on Oakland Road in Brant County on Friday, February 11, 2022.

Sierra BEVERLY, 12 years-of-age, was pronounced deceased after being transported to hospital.

Brant-Brantford Paramedic Services transported the four occupants to hospital, two with life threatening injuries. The two remaining occupants were released with minor injuries.

County of Brant Fire Department assisted with the response.

The incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone in the area who may own a dash camera, doorbell camera or home surveillance and may have witnessed the collision to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

21 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Another impaired driver was arrested in Perth County over the Easter weekend.

On April 16, 2022, just before 2:00 a.m, a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol travelling on Main Street in Atwood, when they conducted a traffic stop. During the investigation, the officer determined the driver was impaired. They were arrested, and transported to a local operations centre for further testing. 

Christopher HRUSKA, 21, of Atwood, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Thief Arrested In Listowel – GRIEVE

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A suspect has been charged after stealing from a local business in the Municipality of North Perth.

The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to a business on Wallace Avenue South, in Listowel on April 13, 2022 after two people entered the business, and one of them was observed stealing perfume.  

Miranda GRIEVE, 39, of North Perth, has been charged with:

–      Theft Under $5000 – SHOPLIFTING

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Goderich Business Evacuated After Threat

(GODERICH, ON) – A youth from Longlac, Ontario has been arrested and charged with Mischief following an incident that took place in Goderich last week. 

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a business located on Bayfield Road in Goderich to investigate a threatening message that was received over the phone. 

The restaurant was immediately evacuated and the premise was cleared by police. 

Subsequent investigation determined the call originated from the Longlac area. Members from the Greenstone OPP Detachment were able to locate and arrest a young person without incident. 

The 15-year-old youth from Longlac has been charged with one count of Mischief and a court date has been scheduled for later this spring in Longlac.

19 Year Old Has License Suspended For Speeding

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Gads Hill driver after they were speeding more than 50 km/hr over the limit in West Perth.

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 10:30p.m., a police officer was conducting speed enforcement on Perth Road 164 at Line 44, in the Municipality of West Perth. The officer stopped a vehicle after it was found to be travelling in excess speed of 130km/h in a 70km/h limit zone.

Dawson KREYGER, 19, of Gads Hill, has been charged with:

–      Race motor vehicle – Stunt

A 30-day driving suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Drunk Driver From Listowel Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Tips from the public assisted in locating an impaired driver, who was arrested in North Perth on Good Friday. 

On April 15, 2022, just after 10:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in North Perth. Officers located the vehicle at a business on Wallace Avenue North, Listowel, and determined the driver was impaired. 26 Year Old Caught Going 69 Over Speed Limit

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Waterloo driver after they were speeding more than 69km/h over the limit in North Perth.

On April 19, 2022, just before midnight, police stopped a vehicle on Perth Line 86, after it was found to be travelling in excess speed of 149km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

Tehzun Muslim KACHWALA, 26, of Waterloo, has been charged with:

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Mitchell driver after they were speeding more than 50 km/hr over the limit in West Perth.

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 12:30p.m., a police officer on general patrol stopped a vehicle on Line 36, in the Municipality of West Perth, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 120km/hr in a 70km/h limit zone.

Shane BAILLIE, 20, of Mitchell, has been charged with:

A 30-day driving suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Drinking & 50 Over Speed Limit – Police Withhold Name

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver for stunt driving, and determined they had been drinking.

On April 3, 2022, an officer initiated a traffic stop on Perth Road 180, in the Municipality of West Perth, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 130km/hr in an 80km/hr limit zone.

While speaking with the driver, the investigating officer determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was used, which registered an “Alert”. As a result, the driver had their license suspended for three days.

A 40-year-old driver from London has been charged with:

–      Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A 30-day-driving suspension and fourteen day vehicle impoundment was initiated per statute. The accused party is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Overturned Canoe Update – Name Of Deceased Released

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – The individual who died as a result of a marine incident has been identified as Michael SHAWNOO, 36-years-old of Kettle and Stoney Point First Nation.  

On April 20, 2022 at 11:05 a.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding an overturned canoe in Lake Huron near Ipperwash beach. 

Officers responded, along with Kettle and Stoney Point Fire Department, Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services, Canadian Coast Guard, United States Coast Guard, Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and members of the community, to aid the two occupants who were seen in the water.

Both individuals were pulled from the water and transported to hospital. One of the individuals was treated and has been released.

Wellington OPP Weekly Blast

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable driving offences and publish a single weekly release.

On April 15, 2022, at approximately 2:00 p.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle on St David Street, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 29-year-old from Rockwood has been charged with Driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle Improper Licence. As a result of further investigation, a Guelph business has been charged with Permit Person with Improper Licence to Drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle and Over Weight Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On April 16, 2022, Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on the Hanlon Expressway South, Guelph. At approximately 2:45 a.m. a blue sedan entered the check. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 17-year-old from Guelph, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 16, 2022, Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on Wellington Road 52, Erin. At approximately 11:00 p.m. a silver coupe entered the check. As a result of the investigation, Ryan James MILLER, 22-years-old of East Garafraxa, has been charged with Impaired Operation contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 3:30 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a blue sedan on the Hanlon Expressway South, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, Delphine Rabiel URAZIRIKANYE, 24-years-old of Waterloo, has been charged with Refusal to Comply with Demand contrary to the Criminal Code

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 10:15 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a white pickup truck on Albert Street, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, James William FETTERLY, 61-years-old of Guelph, has been charged with Disqualified Driving contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a commercial motor vehicle on Woodlawn Road West, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 39-year-old from Guelph has been charged with Driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle no Currently Valid Permit and Failing to Surrender a Complete Daily Inspection Report. As a result of further investigation, a Guelph business has been charged with Permit Person with Improper Licence to Drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle, Operate Commercial Motor Vehicle – No Valid CVOR and Permit Operation of Vehicle – Fail to Display Inspection Sticker or Proof contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On April 18, 2022, Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on the Erin-Garafraxa Townline, Erin. At approximately 12:15 a.m. a silver sedan entered the check. As a result of the investigation, Sarah Elizabeth DAYKIN, 27-years-old of Mono, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 18, 2022, Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Belsyde Avenue East, Fergus. It was reported that a purple hatchback had struck an out-building in a park area causing extensive damages to both the vehicle and the building. As a result of the investigation, Ryan Alexander HALLIDAY, 22-years-old of Fergus, has been charged with Dangerous Driving contrary to the Criminal Code.*See Attached photo

On April 19, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m. a member of the Wellington County OPP initiated a traffic stop of a grey sedan on Wellington Road 109, south of Harriston. As a result of the investigation, Carol-Ann BARNES, 49-years-old of Teeswater, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 19, 2022, at approximately 4:00 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a commercial motor vehicle on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 17-year-old from Amaranth, has been charged with Red Light – Fail to Stop, No Red Light on Rear of Trailer, Fail to Display Inspection Sticker, Fail to Surrender Permit, Fail to Surrender Insurance Card, Fail to Surrender CVOR Certificate, and Fail to Surrender Completed Daily Inspection Report contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court- Guelph.

On April 19, 2022, Wellington County OPP concluded an Easter Weekend – Safe Driving Campaign targeting seatbelt usage. Failure to use seatbelts continue to be a major contributing factor in many vehicle collision fatalities. OPP members were committed to enforcing the rules around seatbelt usage in an effort to target risky behaviour that put lives unnecessarily at risk. Wellington County OPP issued 43 offence notices for seatbelt violations throughout Wellington County.  

Anyone charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle receives a 14 day impoundment and a 30 day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
