23 Year Old From Palmerston Arrested

(PALMERSTON, ON) – One person is facing multiple charges following an incident involving a replica firearm outside a residence in Palmerston. 

On July 11, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of a person that was in possession of what appeared to be a handgun or imitation handgun on Jane Street, Palmerston.

Officers responded and the person was taken into custody. As a result of the investigation Nicholas James YARKIE, 23-years-old of Palmerston has been charged with Pointing a Firearm and Possession of Imitation Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to the Criminal Code. There were no injuries reported during this incident.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph, at a later date.

71 Year Old Arrested – Name Released

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On July 8, 2022, at 9:33 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 6 in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.  

The officer spoke with the driver of the motor vehicle and detected signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to a local police detachment for further testing.

The Grey Bruce OPP have charged David KOCHUT, 71 years-of-age from Breslau, with the following offences:

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

·        Operation while impaired

The accused was released and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound later.

Howard BEAN Facing Sexual Assault Charge

(PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit has laid charges after a historical sexual assault investigation in the Township of Perth East.

The charges arise from events that took place during 2001, the accused was in a position of authority and the victim was a teenager.  

Police have arrested and charged Howard BEAN, a 72-year-old of East Zorra-Tavistock Township with:

–      Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age

–      Sexual Interference

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

26 Year Old From Mitchell Arrested

(WEST PERTH, ON) – A 26-year-old has been charged with impaired driving in the Municipality of West Perth.

On July 5, 2022, just after 11:00 p.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on general patrol was travelling on Road 164 in West Perth, when they conducted a traffic stop due to driving behaviours.  

During the investigation, the driver was showing signs of alcohol consumption. The driver was arrested and transported to a local operations centre for further testing.

Mwange SAMPA, 26, of Mitchell, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 30-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

21 Year Old From Stratford Arrested

(PERTH EAST, ON) – Another driver charged with an impaired related offence in the Township of Perth East.

On June 30, 2022, just before midnight, a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol when a vehicle stop was conducted on Perth Road 131, in Perth East.

During the investigation, it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device was used, and they were arrested, and transported to a local operations center for further testing.

Tanner NELDER, 21, of Stratford, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

–      Speeding

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges. The accused was issued two Provincial Offence Notices for the other two charges.

34 Year Old From South Bruce Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On June 30, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Perth Line 88 in the Municipality of North Perth.  

Upon speaking with a driver who entered the checkpoint, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage, at which time a roadside screening device was administered. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to a local operations center for further testing.

Steven FISCHER, a 34-year-old resident of South Bruce has been charged with the following:

–      Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

22 Year Old From Acton Arrested

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On July 1, 2022, just before 11:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program on Perth Line 20 in the Municipality of West Perth.

It was determined that while the officer was conducting the program, a vehicle entered when they noted open alcohol. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol. A roadside screening device was used, and they were arrested.

The accused was subsequently transported to a local operations center for further testing however the accused refused to provide breath samples as required by law.

Andreas BOUZALAS, 22, of Acton, has been charged with:

–      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

22 Year Old From Goderich Arrested

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a failed roadside test early this morning in Seaforth. 

Early this morning (08Joly), just after 4:30 a.m. a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling on Goderich Street West when he observed an automobile travelling westbound without taillights in operation. A traffic stop was initiated, and it led to the investigating officer conducting a roadside screening test on the driver. The test resulted in a fail thus the driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Drew LEBLANC, 22 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 15, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

44 Pigs Stolen

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking the assistance of the public in connection with a recent theft of pigs.

This week officers were contacted by a farmer that reported 44 pigs were stolen from his barn located on North Line. 

It was determined that sometime between March 1, 2022 and June 21, 2022 unknown persons attended the barn and stole 44 pigs. The pigs would have weighed anywhere between 60 to 200 pounds. The estimated value of the stolen pigs is $12,000.

Huron County OPP is seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation and if anyone has information they are asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

28 Year Old From Clinton Arrested

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Clinton resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a traffic stop that took place this past weekend. 

On Sunday, July 2, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Huron County OPP received a traffic complaint of a pickup truck that was being operated in an erratic manner on Lucknow Line. OPP officers immediately began patrolling for the pickup truck and soon after it was spotted at the intersection of Belfast Road and Lanesville Line. 

A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. As a result, a roadside screening test was administered and the driver registered a fail.

The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Kiana McKay, 28 years of age from Clinton has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 8, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Tree Vs Drunk Driver – One Arrested

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Bluewater resident with Impaired Operation & Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a motor vehicle collision that took place outside of Varna.  

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a hatchback that collided with a tree on Bannockburn Line. Upon arrival officers located a hatchback that had extensive front-end damage from the collision with the tree.   

Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed the driver to be displaying several signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests revealed the driver was over the legal limit.   

Kristopher SEPERS, 23 years of age from Varna has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), Operation While Impaired and Driving While Under Suspension. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 25, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Fatal Collision Update – Name Of Deceased Released

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers continue to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision that took place yesterday afternoon.

On Monday, July 4, 2022 at approximately 4:41 p.m., Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and the South Huron Fire Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision located on MacDonald Road near Parr Line.

The preliminary investigation revealed a cross-over sport utility vehicle was travelling eastbound on MacDonald Road when the vehicle collided head-on with a bridge guardrail. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The deceased has since been identified as John FREESWICK, 48 years of age from Dashwood.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today. 

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation.

MacDonald Road remains closed between Parr Line and Ausable Line.

2 More Impaired Drivers Caught

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two impaired drivers this past weekend.

  • On July 3, 2022, at 1:41 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of a suspected impaired driver along Bruce County Road 3 in Brant Township. Officers located the vehicle and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. Tyler ROOTE, 29-years-old, of Saugeen First Nation was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charge
  • On July 2, 2022, at 2:11 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of a single vehicle collision along Highway 9 in Carrick Township. Officers attended the scene and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. David MCGINNIS, 27-years-old, of Chatsworth Township was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charge.

This charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently on scene of a fatal single motor vehicle collision that has taken place west of Exeter.

This afternoon at approximately 4:41 p.m., Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and the South Huron Fire Department responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision located on MacDonald Road near Parr Line.

Upon arrival first responders located a cross-over sport utility vehicle that had collided with a bridge. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The name of the deceased will be released pending next-of-kin notification. 

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team are on scene assisting with the collision investigation.

MacDonald Road is currently closed between Parr Line and Ausable Line for the collision investigation.

SMITH Arrested For Impaired Driving

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On June 25, 2022, just before 10:00 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was dispatched to a traffic complaint on Perth Road 164 in the Municipality of West Perth.

An officer conducted a traffic stop, and during the investigation, the officer had reason to believe the driver was impaired. A Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted on the driver. The driver was arrested and transported to a local operations centre for a Drug Recognition Evaluation.   

As a result, Stephanie SMITH, 51, of the North Perth, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
