Head-on Collision On HWY 86

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Icy roads caused one collision after the other in Municipality of North Perth last Friday.

On February 05 2021, just before 3:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Paramedic Service, and North Perth Fire Department responded to a serious head-on collision on Perth Line 86, west of Road 169. Two vehicles driving in opposite directions had collided, causing severe damage to the vehicles and injuring two people. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Prior to police arriving on scene, a second collision occurred just east of the first, after one vehicle stopped and was rear-ended. There were no injuries as a result of the second collision, but one vehicle received significant damage.

The roads were icy at the time of the collisions.

Here are some tips to help ensure you get where you’re going safely:

  • Slow down.
  • Look ahead (as far as the horizon) to be aware of upcoming intersections, vehicles, and dangers.
  • Adjust your driving to the current road and weather conditions.
  • Leave extra space between vehicles, as stopping distances are more than double on snow or ice covered roads.
  • Make it a habit to allow extra time to travel to and from your destinations.

In the event of a minor collision with NO injuries and your vehicle can still be driven, drivers are encouraged to exit off the highway to a safe location and exchange relevant information with other involved drivers.

For collisions incurring damage over $2000, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or your local Police Service to report the incident.
