22 Year Old Facing Impaired Charge

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On June 6, 2021, just after 7:00 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on general patrol in the Municipality of West Perth conducted a traffic stop on Perth Line 20. Police spoke with the vehicle driver who displayed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Zabiullah RAHMANI, 22, of Kitchener, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs

The accused in this matter was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Melissa SCHMIDT Caught Going 140 in an 80

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged another driver after they were speeding more than 60km/h over the limit in the Municipality of North Perth.

On June 6, 2021 just after 10:00 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Road 140 after it was found to be travelling in excess of 140km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Melissa SCHMIDT, 38, of East Zorra-Tavistock Township, has been charged with:

–       Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A seven day driving suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Bridge Fire Update

(GREENOCK TWP, ON) – On June 5, 2021 at 5:19 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a fire along the rail trail in Greenock Township. Officers responded with members of the Paisley, Saugeen Shores and Walkerton Fire Departments to find a trestle bridge fully engulfed by flames.

The South Bruce OPP and the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire that is deemed suspicious.

Investigators are interested in viewing any video surveillance leading to the Willow Creek Bridge between 12:00 p.m. on June 4, 2021 and 12:00 p.m. on June 6, 2021.

Christopher OLMSTEAD – Fentanyl

(FOREST, ON) – On June 6, 2021 at approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding a suspicious person said to be causing damage to a nearby building on Clyde Street, Forest.  

Officers attended and observed an individual near the building matching the description from the earlier complaint. The individual was observed to be in possession of suspected fentanyl, and was taken into custody without incident.    

Christopher OLMSTEAD, 34-years-old of Forest, has been charged with:

  • Possess schedule 1 substance.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia on a later date.

20 Year Old Caught Going 130 in an 80

(PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Kitchener driver after they were speeding more than 50km/h over the limit in the Township of Perth East.

On June 7, 2021 just before 3:00 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on the Perth Line 34 after it was found to be travelling in excess of 130km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Yug MUMBAIWALA, 20, of Kitchener, has been charged with:

–       Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A seven day driving suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

$100,000 In Stolen Property Recovered In ACW – John VANDIEPENBEEK Arrested

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – An Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh resident is facing nine criminal charges following an investigation conducted by members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and members of the OPP Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU). Additionally, the investigative efforts have led to the discovery and seizure of an estimated $100,000 in stolen property.

On May 27, 2021 Huron OPP officers were notified of a break, enter and theft of copper wire from a wind turbine site located on Tower Line in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh. Two large spools of copper wire valued at approximately $41,000 were taken. Following some investigation officers were able to develop some suspect information and a judicial search warrant was authorized.

On May 28, 2021 members from the Huron OPP Detachment, OPP Huron-Perth CSCU and West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed two search warrants at property located on Belfast Road. As a result of the search warrant police seized the following stolen items:  Copper wire valued at $41,000, a bin full of scrap metal valued at $7,500, two motorcycles and two pickup trucks. Additionally, police seized an improperly stored shotgun and a significant quantity of suspected crack cocaine.

John VANDIEPENBEEK, 40 years of age from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with the following offences:

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – Six Counts

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

·        Careless Storage of a Firearm

·        Fail to Comply with Recognizance

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 26, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Driver From Owen Sound Caught Going 145 in an 80

(MEAFORD, ON) On June 1, 2021 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 26, near the 11th Line in the Municipality of Meaford.

Grey Bruce OPP stopped the vehicle after it was found to be travelling at over 145 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 80 km/h speed limit zone.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged George SUTTER, 36-years-old of Owen Soundwith Stunt Driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, along with a seven-day driver’s licence suspension. The individual’s vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

6 Million Dollar Drug Bust In Arthur

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On June 4, 2021, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a Cannabis Act search warrant at a commercial property on Wells Street West in the Town of Arthur.

Members of the Wellington County OPP CSCU, Wellington County Crime Unit and uniform officers, with the assistance of Perth CSCU , the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team (PJFCET) and the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) seized over 7500 plants as well as a large quantity of Canadian currency and marihuana processing equipment.

The total value of seized cannabis is estimated to be over $6 million dollars.

The following individuals are charged under the Cannabis Act with Cultivate, Propagate or Harvest Any Cannabis Plant at a Place That is Not Their Dwelling-House or to Offer to do so, Possession for the Purpose of Distributing, Possession for the Purpose of Selling and Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by a Crime Over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code.

·      Engang EX, 43-years-old of Scarborough

·      Chenguang LI, 47-years-old of Scarborough

·      Lifan LI, 23-years-old of Markham

·      Hai LIN, 29-years-old of Markham

All the accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

The PJFCET is responsible for enforcing the cannabis laws and investigating criminal enterprises that exploit or abuse the legal cannabis market.

Middlesex OPP Weekend Report

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – Over the course of the weekend, members of the Middlesex County, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were busy doing their part to keep our communities safe. 

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – ILDERTON RESIDENCE DESTROYED BY FIRE

On June 7, 2020 at 3:39 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Middlesex-London EMS and the Middlesex Centre Fire Department responded to an active structure fire at 11 Warbler Circle, Ilderton, Municipality of Middlesex Centre.

Police confirmed the structure and its contents were a total loss as a result of the fire.

The fire is deemed to be non-suspicious and there were no injuries.

(Middlesex Centre, ON) – TRAFFIC COMPLAINT RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE

On June 6, 2021 at 7:56 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Centre Road, Adelaide-Metcalfe Township. The vehicle was located on Centre Road at Egremont Drive, at which point a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result, Gurmeet BHATOA, a 30-year-old of London, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 9, 2021 to speak to the charges.

(Middlesex Centre, ON) – TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE

On June 5, 2021, at 7:46 p.m., while on general patrol, a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police observed a suspicious vehicle on Gideon Drive, Middlesex Centre Township. A traffic stop was initiated.

As a result, Andrew WRIGHT, a 31-year-old of Mount Brydges, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 12, 2021 to speak to the charges.

(Middlesex Centre, ON) – STUNT CHARGE LAID FOR DRIVER TRAVELLING AT DOUBLE THE POSTED 90 km/h SPEED LIMIT

On June 6, 2021, at 9:03 p.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police received a traffic complaint of a speeding motor vehicle on Nairn Road, Middlesex Centre Township. The vehicle was located by police and a traffic stop was initiated.  

As a result, police have charged a 19-year-old driver of London with:

  • Race a Motor Vehicle – excessive speed as per section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver’s vehicle was impounded at the roadside and the driver’s licence was suspended for a period of 7 days.

The driver is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Provincial Traffic Court to speak to the charges.

29 Year Old From North Huron Caught Going 135 in an 80

(HURON TWP, ON) – On June 5, 2021 at 4:19 p.m., a member of the Huron Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) noticed a vehicle on Highway 21 in Huron Township moving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s speed was displayed on radar at more than 135 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

Ryan O’NEIL, 29-years-old, of North Huron Township was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle.

This charge includes an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment and an immediate 7-day driver’s license suspension.

OPP Search For Missing Boater

(LAKESHORE, ON) – On Monday June 6, 2021 at 3:34 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Lakeshore Detachment responded to an address on Lakeshore Park Road area in the Municipality of Lakeshore for a report of a missing boater.

OPP investigation has determined that a 58-year-old male went out into Lake St. Clair to go fishing at approximately 08:00 a.m. in a small vessel off the shoreline near Stoney Point.

A kayaker came across a small vessel on a sandbar, they noticed the vessel was unoccupied and they contacted police.

The Essex County OPP Marine Unit, Chatham-Kent OPP Marine Unit, Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre (JRCC) are currently searching the area.

The missing boater is described as 5’10, 240 lbs. medium build, green eyes, short grey hair, goatee and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a blue two tone tank top and light blue shorts.

Resources are continuing to search the area on Lake St. Clair as well as an aerial search of the area. 

OPP is asking for anyone who may have any information to assist with the investigation to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.

2 Marine Fatalities

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On June 05, 2021 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a vessel in distress near Donald Road, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Two deceased individuals have been located on scene. Their identities are being held, pending the completion of next-of-kin notifications.

Members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trenton, OPP Aviation Services, OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (URSU), OPP Emergency Response Team, Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit, OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management Team (TIME), Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire, and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) all assisted Grey Bruce OPP with this incident.

20 Vehicles Vandalized – Suspect(s) At Large

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On June 4, 2021, at approximately 8:10 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of mischief that occurred at a business located on King Street in Palmerston. 

Investigation revealed that sometime between May 28, 2021 and June 3, 2021, unknown suspects entered onto the property and smashed the windows and windshields out of approximately 20 vehicles. Fire extinguishers were used to cause the damage to the vehicles, which were all un-plated and either for scrap, antique or for sale. Fireworks were also set off in the area during that period of time.

The total value of damage is in excess of $20,000.

140 in an 80 Near Hensall – Mark WELFRED

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A Racing charge has been laid against a driver from London after he was caught speeding late last night north of Hensall.

Shortly before midnight a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on London Road (Highway 4) near Staffa Road when he observed a pickup truck travelling southbound at a high rate of speed. The officer utilized a RADAR device and measured the speed of the pickup at a rate of speed in excess of a 140 km/h, more than 60 kilometres over the posted 80 km/h limit.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was subsequently charged. Mark WELFRED, 51 years of age, from London has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed. A court date has been scheduled for August 10, 2021 at the Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich for the defendant to answer to the charge.

His driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 7 days and his motor vehicle has been impounded for the week.

4 Assaulted Mitchell – 17 Year Old Arrested

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On Thursday May 27, 2021 just after 8:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault in progress in the Municipality of West Perth.

Police attended a residence on Blenheim Street in Mitchell, where four people had been assaulted by a young person. Perth County Paramedic Services attended to two of the victims, who received minor injuries from the assault. 

A 17-year-old resident of Mitchell was arrested at the scene and charged with

  • Assault (four counts)

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
