Fatal Collision Near Walton

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently on scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision that took place this morning west of Walton.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and North Huron Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle collision located on Blyth Road (Huron County #25) west of Walton.

The preliminary investigation has determined a sport utility vehicle was travelling eastbound on Blyth Road (Huron County #25) when the vehicle left the roadway, entered into the south ditch and collided with a tree. Upon colliding with tree the vehicle became fully engulfed in fire.

The driver/lone occupant died at the scene.   

The deceased has yet to be identified.  

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation with assistance from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team.

Blyth Road (Huron County #25) is currently closed between Clyde Line and Brussels Line. Please use an alternate route to avoid delays.

Further information will be provided pending next-of-kin notification.

Fatal Collision – Charges Laid

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On July 23, 2021, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Grey County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Inter Township Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Highway 6-10 in the Municipality of Meaford.

A driver, identified as 55-year-old Craig Heatley of Bradford West Gwillimbury, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A passenger of the vehicle was also transported to hospital, with serious non-life threatening injuries.

On August 6, 2021, Grey Bruce OPP charged 83-year-old Nina NODWELL, of the Municipality of Grey Highlands with the following offences:

  • Careless driving causing death
  • Careless driving causing bodily harm

Grey Bruce OPP and the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) continue to investigate this matter.

More Impaired Drivers – PEHLKE, VEZZA & BRAUN

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested three drivers over the long weekend.

On July 31, 2021, after 10:00 pm., the Perth County OPP was alerted to a vehicle in the area of Road 124, Township of Perth East, where an occupant was observed sleeping inside. As a result of an investigation, Davin PEHLKE, 29-years-old of Howick Township, was charged with:

  •  Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs
  •  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) 

On August 1, 2021, shortly after 12:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a possible impaired driver in Listowel. Police located the suspect vehicle and as a result of an investigation, Anthony VEZZA, 39-years-old of Listowel, was charged with:

  •   Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine 

On August 2, 2021, just before 2:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a possible impaired driver when bystanders observed a vehicle leave the roadway and later depart the scene. Police subsequently located the suspect vehicle and as a result Abram BRAUN, 35-years-old Listowel, was charged with:

  •  Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs

All of the accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on later dates. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute to the accused. The accused in these matter were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

60+ Over Speed Limit – Vehicle Impounded

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged another driver after they were speeding more than 50km/h over the limit in the Municipality of West Perth.

On July 27, 2021 just before 9:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Line 20 after it was found to be travelling more than 60 km/h in excess of the posted speed limit.

As a result, Colleen LOCKE, 53, of Woodstock, has been charged with:

–      Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A seven day driving suspension and fourteen seven vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Rifle Stolen

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On August 3, 2021 at approximately 6:30 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on Christie Street in Rockwood.

It was reported that sometime overnight unknown suspects entered a secure trailer on a residential property and stole a metal gun locker that contained the following items:

  • Black .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a wooden stock
  • Ammunition
  • Black air rifle with a wooden stock
  • Black air pistol with a 10″ barrel with a wooden grip
  • Black CO2 air pistol – revolver style

A variety of construction tools were also stolen.

Several vehicles on Kaine Hill Drive were also entered and property stolen over the long weekend. The Wellington County OPP want to remind residents to report any suspicious activity or incidents to police immediately. Your information may help to interrupt a potential crime, help to identify a crime trend, suspect, or prevent further crimes.

Dirt Bike Stolen From Exeter

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking tips from the public to help solve a recent break, enter and theft of a dirt bike in Exeter.

Investigators have learned that sometime between July 20, 2021 and July 22, 2021 a thief attended a Victoria Avenue East property and proceeded to pry the lock off of a garage man door. Once inside the garage the thief stole a dirt bike & helmet and left the scene. 

The stolen dirt bike is described as a black and white Yamaha YZ 450 S valued at about $2,500.

Orange Hill Road Campground Break & Enter

(HOWICK, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating some break, enter and thefts occurrences that took place last week at a campground in Howick.

On July 31, 2021 Huron OPP members responded to a campground located on Orange Hill Road to investigate a report of a break, enter and thefts occurrence.  Officers learned sometime between July 28th and July 29th at noon the suspects forced entry into the campground by knocking down a fence and driving in on an ATV. Once inside the property the suspects entered into several travel trailers and storage sheds and proceeded to steal several items. 

Some of the stolen items are as follows:

·        A red Bristers Trail Wagon Utility Vehicle with a hard top canopy

·        A red Milwaukee sawzall

·        Two gasoline canisters

·         A black socket set

·        A battery charging station

·        Several propane canisters

Drug Bust – WEBB & STANLEY

(HURON EAST, ON) – A citizen’s call to police about a suspiciously parked vehicle with two occupants inside has led to drug possession charges against two Huron County residents.

On July 29, 2021 at approximately 2:18 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a parking lot in Brucefield to check on two vehicle occupants that appeared to be sleeping inside.

Officers attended the scene and made contact with both the driver and passenger. Upon further investigation officers arrested both occupants for possession of drugs. A search incident to arrest resulted in police locating and seizing quantities of suspected cocaine and morphine. 

Additionally, the driver was found to be in possession of a passport that did not belong to him. 

David WEBB, 49 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Morphine & Possession of an Identity Document. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 27, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. 

Dayna STANLEY, 28 years of age from South Huron has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Morphine & Fail to Comply with Probation Order. The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 4, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

One Airlifted Following Collision On Hwy 21

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate a crash that took place over the weekend north of Grand Bend on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway.

On July 30, 2021 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Huron OPP officers along with Huron County Paramedic Services responded to the crash scene located on Highway 21 (Bluewater Veteran’s Highway) near Schadeview Road. Upon arrival first responders located a cyclist that had been struck by a motorcycle that was travelling northbound on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway. 

The cyclist, a 41-year-old, from Bluewater was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries. The injured cyclist remains in hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the motorcycle was not injured.

The investigating is ongoing and police would like to speak with any possible witnesses.

22 Year Old Has Vehicle Impounded For Speeding

(BLUEWATER, ON) – It should come as no surprise to drivers but there is going to be police watching your speed as you drive through towns and villages throughout Huron County. 

This past weekend Huron County OPP officers along with members from West Region Highway Safety Division Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement Team (TIME) conducted proactive speed enforcement in many of Huron County’s small towns and villages.

On Monday, August 2, 2021 a member from the HSD Time Team observed a motor vehicle travelling on Zurich-Hensall Road at a high rate of speed. A speed measurement was taken and the motor vehicle was observed at a speed in excess of 40 km/h over the posted 50 km/h zone. 

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, 22-year-old Jacob LAPORTE from Dashwood has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed. A court date has been set for Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich on September 21, 2021. A 7-day driver’s licence has been issued on the driver and the vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.

Police Investigating Road Rage Incident

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) -On Monday August 2, 2021, at approximately 3:05 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Brant County Detachment investigated a road rage incident on Adams Street in Brant County.   

It was determined two drivers and one passenger were involved in a verbal altercation when both of the drivers stopped their vehicles, facing each other on the road. One of the drivers then got out of his vehicle, approached the driver’s side door of the other vehicle and sprayed both the driver and the passenger with an unknown substance. The driver then quickly got back in his vehicle and left the area. 

The suspect was described to police as being tall, thin build, with balding shaved black hair, 20 to 30 years old and was wearing a grey shirt and glasses. The vehicle was described as a silver Honda van.

The investigation is continuing and police are seeking the assistance of the public. If anyone was in the area at the time of the incident or has video surveillance footage that could help identify the drivers, they are being asked to contact the Brant County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

25 Year Old Caught Going 90 in a 50 Zone

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a London resident with Stunt Driving following a traffic stop conducted in Crediton over the long weekend.

On Saturday, July 31, 2021 just before 3:00 p.m. a Huron OPP officer was conducting LIDAR enforcement on Victoria Avenue when he observed a motor vehicle speeding through the 50 km/h zone at a high rate of speed. A speed measurement was taken and the vehicle was confirmed to be travelling at a rate of speed in excess of 90 km/h. 

Ahmad AL RAJIE, 25 years of age from London has been charged with Racing – Excessive Speed. A court date will be upcoming at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich.

24 Year Old Facing Charges After Hit And Run – Name Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A citizen’s call about a possible impaired driver resulted in police arresting and charging a Burlington resident with Impaired Operation and Fail to Remain this past weekend. 

On July 31, 2021 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call about a possible impaired driver that was seen travelling north on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway from Elliott’s Grove Side Road. Officers learned the driver failed to remain at the scene of a crash after colliding with a telephone box and a stop sign.

Officers immediately began patrolling for the suspect vehicle and just over an hour later police located the suspect vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer made some observations that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was then placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests; two samples of breath were later provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.

As a result, the driver 24-year-old Jenna ANDERSON, from Burlington has been charged with:

·        Operation while Impaired – Alcohol

·        Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·        Fail to remain

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 16, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. 

An automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension has been served on the driver and the involved motor vehicle was impounded.

Fatal Motorcycle Collision – Name Of Deceased Released

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On July 31, 2021, at approximately 3:35 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police, Wellington County Detachment, responded along with the Town of Erin Fire and Emergency Services and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services to a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Second Line near Seventeen Side Road in the Town of Erin.

It was determined that a motorcycle was travelling southbound on Second Line when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the ditch. The driver, 56-year-old, Adrian HAMILL of Acton was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Wellington County OPP and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) continue to investigate the collision.

Two Impaired Charges, One E-bike

(GRAND BEND, ON) – On July 31, 2021 at 10:30 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed two parties leave a licenced establishment on Main Street in Grand Bend. The two individuals, who were displaying signs of impairment, mounted a single E-bike and began driving away. Upon seeing officers, the two swapped positions on the E-bike.

Officers stopped the vehicle, having now observed both individuals driving, it became apparent that both had consumed an alcoholic beverage, at which time a roadside screening device was administered. Both individuals were arrested for impaired operation.

Jesse BROHMAN, 42-years-old of Lambton Shores, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

Geoff GLASSER, 27-years-old of London, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired,
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand,
  • Failure to comply with release order,
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (three counts) and,
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

BROHMAN has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 13, 2021.

GLASSER has been held in custody following a bail hearing on August 1, 2021 and is scheduled to reappear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 3, 2021.
