(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On September 9, 2021, at approximately 1:55 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment received a report of a possible impaired-driver on Wellington Rd 17, west of Highway 6.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Officers formed the opinion that the driver was impaired and placed them under arrest.

As a result of the investigation Adam KONKLE, 41-years-old of South Bruce, has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on October 5, 2021.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is actively investigating a break, enter and theft that took place late last week in Clinton.

On September 10, 2021 Huron OPP members received a report of an overnight break, enter and theft at a business located on Albert Street in Clinton. Investigators learned those responsible forced entry into the business through the front door. Once inside the business the thieves stole numerous items including several wedding dresses, pairs of shoes, assorted costume jewellery, a laptop, a debit machine and a cash box containing a small amount of cash.

The value of the stolen items is estimated at $22,000.

(ELDERSLIE TWP, ON) – On September 12, 2021 at 9:11 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a theft report from a residence along Bruce County Road 10 in Elderslie Township. Sometime between 8:30 p.m. on September 11, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. on September 12, 2021 a Green Honda Foreman TRX, 450 cc, All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) was taken. The license plate is 75KW7 and there is duct tape across some tears in the seat.

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On September 9, 2021 at approximately 12 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of suspicious people on bicycles in the area of George Street in the Town of Wiarton

Police arrived on scene and discovered a suspect matching the description provided by the complainant. Police attempted to stop the suspect, however the suspect ignored police and failed to stop. The suspect was stopped a short time later and placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged Russel FORD, 22 years-of-age, from South Bruce Peninsula with the following offences:

·        Cyclist – fail to stop

·        Possession of a Schedule 3 substance

The accused was released and must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 14th, 2021.

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with Possession of Stolen Property in connection with an incident that took place last night in Goderich.

On September 8, 2021 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Huron OPP officers received a call about two bicycles that had just been stolen from the outside of a business in Goderich. Police responded to the area and began patrolling for the suspect. 

At approximately 11:30 p.m. officers learned one of the bicycles had been recovered by the owner and a friend.  Police learned the suspect was still in the immediate area so they responded and were able to identify and arrest the suspect.

Upon arrest officers learned the accused was also failing to comply with conditions of his probation sentence. 

Aaron WEDGE, 30 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 and six counts of Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. 

The accused has been remanded into custody with a bail hearing scheduled for September 10, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

The second bicycle, a red Norco, remains outstanding.

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a pair of Huron County residents with a number of criminal offences following an investigation conducted in Exeter yesterday morning.

On September 8, 2021 shortly before 11:45 a.m. members of the Huron OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) were conducting foot patrols along the Thames River at the end of William Street and Church Street when they located a make-shift campsite.

Upon closer inspection police observed two persons at the shelter that had some illegal drugs out in plain view. Both persons were arrested and searched incident to arrest. The subsequent search revealed they were in possession of suspected Methamphetamine, Fentanyl and Hydromorphone. 

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $800.

Upon completion of some checks police also learned the two accused were not supposed to not have communication with each other. 

As a result, both were taken into custody and charged.

Craig SNELL, 40 years of age from Huron County is charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Hydromorphone, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Fail to Comply with Undertaking and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order. 

Jordan WOODS, 25 years of age from Huron County is charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Hydromorphone and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking.  

Both accused have since been released from custody with court appearances scheduled for October 4, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice.

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – A Wingham resident is facing a number of charges following a recent traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Belgrave.

On Thursday, August 26, 2021 just before 10:00 p.m. a Huron OPP officer observed a motor vehicle speeding in the 50 km/h speed zone. A traffic stop was conducted and upon doing some checks the investigating officer learned the driver held a suspended driver’s licence. Additionally, police learned the motor vehicle in question had been taken without consent. 

Upon arrest the investigating officer also found the accused in possession of a stolen credit card. 

Kristen HOPPER, 35 years of age from Wingham has been charged with Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent, Possession of a Stolen Credit Card, Drive While Under Suspension and Speeding.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 27, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – A Teeswater resident is facing a charge of Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus following a traffic stop conducted this past weekend.

On September 5, 2021 at approximately 12:50 a.m. a sport utility vehicle entered into a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint located on Josephine Street at the north end of Wingham. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer had reason to believe the driver had consumed some alcohol. As a result a roadside screening test was conducted and ultimately failed by the driver.

The driver was then placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were later provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.

Wesley STANGEN, 31 years of age from Teeswater has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 25, 2021.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A resident of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is facing a court date after he was caught driving with too high of a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC).

On August 27, 2021 at approximately 9:45 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were patrolling on Orchard Line when they observed a pickup truck make a wide turn onto Orchard Line. Officers followed after the vehicle and were able to stop the vehicle at the entrance to a campground.

Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol so a demand for the roadside test was issued. The driver complied with the demand and proceeded to fail the roadside screening test. 

The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were later provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests resulted in a Fail.

Christopher ADAIR, 57 years of age from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 4, 2021.

The driver was served with an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded.

(HOWICK, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate a fail to remain collision involving a pedestrian that took place this past weekend.

On September 5, 2021 at approximately 9:16 p.m. Huron County OPP and Wellington County Emergency Services responded to the crash scene located at the intersection of Harriston Road and Toll Gate Line east of Gorrie. 

Upon arrival first responders attended to a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. The injured pedestrian, a 62-year-old from Howick, was transported to hospital and later released with non-life threatening injuries.

The subsequent investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking eastbound on the side of Harriston Road when an eastbound vehicle collided with the pedestrian. The driver of the suspect vehicle failed to stop at the scene of the crash and took off at a high rate of speed.

Investigators believe the involved suspect vehicle is either a 2008 to 2016 model Dodge Caravan or a Chrysler Town & Country minivan. The suspect vehicle may still be missing a passenger side mirror.

(ELDERSLIE TWP, ON) – On September 4, 2021 at 1:59 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision along Thomas Street in Elderslie Township. Officers arrived to find that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Bryce RAINE, 21-years-old, of Arran-Elderslie Township, was charged with Impaired Driving, Operate over 80 milligrams, Drive with Open Alcohol, Drive with no License, Fail to Remain and Fail to Report. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on November 3, 2021 to answer to the charges.

The driver received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. 

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is crediting a Goderich man for rescuing a 7-year-old girl from Lake Huron this past weekend.

On September 4, 2021 at approximately 10:05 a.m. Huron OPP officers received a call about a young girl that was caught in the wind and currents and was getting blown out from shore on a toy inflatable at the Rotary Cove Beach. The child was not wearing a life jacket and was approximately 50 metres from the shoreline. The child was unable to get to shore on her own and the family members she was with were not strong enough swimmers to bring her back in. 

Fortunately, a 20-year-old Goderich man that was out for a walk realized what was happening and leapt into action. He was able to swim out to the girl and was able to safely tow her back into shore. 

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has responded to several drownings this year and this event could have certainly ended up in a fatality had it not been for the life-saving actions of this man. 

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (NDMNRF) would like to remind residents of the following tips and recommendations to reduce your chances of attracting bears, and what to do if you encounter a bear. 

This comes after Huron OPP officers responded to a bear sighting in Goderich last night. Shortly after 9:30 p.m. officers received a call about a bear that had climbed a tree on Krohmer Drive in Goderich. Officers reported the 150 to 175 pound bear stayed in the tree until the normally quiet street calmed down from all the curious onlookers that came out to take a look at the bear. Once police cleared out the area the bear climbed out of the first tree. Soon after, it climbed up another tree at the corner of Suncoast Drive and Krohmer Drive before it eventually climbed down and departed the area last seen running eastbound along Suncoast Drive.

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – Under a 10-year pilot project announced by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), the Township of Huron-Kinloss will be able to create a bylaw to permit the use of golf cars on municipal roadways. A Municipal bylaw is required to permit the operation of a golf car on the road.

On September 7, 2021, the Township of Huron-Kinloss enacted a bylaw allowing golf cars on specified roads took effect. Anyone planning to operate a golf car within the Township of Huron-Kinloss must register their golf car with the Township before using it on a roadway. For more information on the operation of a golf car in the Township of Huron-Kinloss please visit the Township website at: https://www.huronkinloss.com.

Under this pilot, golf cars will be considered motor vehicles under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and operators will be expected to follow the rules of the road. In addition, specific requirements have been added to the HTA for golf cars:

·       Driver must have a valid Ontario driver’s license

·       Only operated where permitted by the Township of Huron-Kinloss

·       Can only be operated on roads with a maximum speed of 50 km/h

·       Can’t be driven on the road in December, January, February or March

·       Can’t be capable of travelling 32 km/h or faster on a level surface

·       Can’t tow other vehicles

·       A Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) sign must be mounted on the rear

·       Must not carry passengers under 8 years of age

·       Adequate night time lighting is required if operated between ½ hour before sunset and ½ hour after sunrise

·       Daytime running lights are required to be on at all times

·       Can’t carry any combustible fuel, except in the fuel tank (if equipped)

·       Must be driven in the far-right lane

·       Drivers are subject to all HTA rules of the road and penalties

Section 228 of the HTA creates an offence for violating the requirements of a pilot project. This section carries a maximum fine of $2,500 upon conviction.

In order to be operated on the road, Golf Cars must be equipped with safety equipment including:

• Steering wheel
• Service brakes
• Parking or emergency brakes
• Rear-view mirror
• Horn
• Good quality tires
• Daytime running lights
• Turn signals
• Brake lights
• Reflectors

Golf cars are not required to display license plates or have proof of automobile insurance at this time.

The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wants you to know that a golf car is a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code. Operators can expect that the South Bruce OPP will have a zero tolerance for anyone operating a golf car while impaired.

(CULROSS TWP, ON) – On September 6, 2021 at 3:46 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a serious All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision along Side road 5A in Culross Township.

Officers responded with members of Huron County OPP, South Bruce Rescue – Teeswater Station and Huron County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find the ATV was at rest in the east ditch.

The lone rider was taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

Members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) unit are assisting the South Bruce OPP with this investigation.
