Impaired Driver On Hwy 21

(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) On October 3, 2021 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 21 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs

The driver was placed under arrest, and transported to a police detachment, where further tests were administered.

As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged John HUGHES, 38 years-of-age, from Owen Sound with the following offences:

·       Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drug

The accused was released and must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 18, 2021.

Drunk Driver Caught Going 2X Limit

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On October 6, 2021 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Bruce Road 10, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Grey Bruce OPP stopped the vehicle after it was found to be travelling at over 170 kilometers per hour (km/h) in a posted 80 km/h speed limit zone.

The driver was placed under arrest, and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment, where further tests were administered.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Philip SERVOS, 57-years-of-age from Kitchenerwith the following offences:

·        Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and

·        Stunt Driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit.

The accused was released and must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 28th, 2021.

Firearms Stolen

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are seeking tips from the public to help solve a recent break, enter and theft that took place at a property in Seaforth.

On September 23, 2021 Huron OPP officers received information about a break, enter and theft that took place sometime in late August at a property located on Ann Street in Seaforth. The subsequent investigation has determined unknown persons entered into a detached shed on the property and stole two desktop computers and five long guns.

The stolen firearms were described as a mix of older model shotguns, .22 calibre rifles and a pellet gun.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again – Meth A Factor

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A Goderich man is facing nine criminal charges following an investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week.

At approximately 7:39 a.m. on October 6, 2021 Huron OPP officers received a call about a suspicious person that was inside one of the old hangars located at the Goderich Airport.  Officers responded to the scene and upon arrival they located the suspicious person in his motor vehicle leaving the property. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was placed under arrest. A search of the accused’s vehicle and his person resulted in police locating numerous stolen tools, copper piping, copper wire, scrap metals, stolen ignition keys and other items. Additionally, police located and seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. 

Craig SOMERVILLE, 34 years of age from Goderich has been charged with:

·        Break and Enter

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – five counts

·        Mischief Under $5,000

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

·        Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused has since been released with a court appearance scheduled for November 8, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

OPP Remind Teens About Viral Video Challenge That Leads To More Time Off School #OPPJobSecurity

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has a message for teens and pre-teens engaging in a trending online challenge dubbed “Devious Licks” that encourages youth to damage and steal property while filming the event. 

“These types of challenges are going to land you in trouble whether it be a school suspension, damage to your online reputation or potential criminal charges. Parents, if you have a student at home that is on social media and is following these trends you may want to have a conversation with your child about the implications of getting involved in something like this.”

These videos are often posted anonymously to social media sites presumably seeking views, likes, shares and comments from followers. 

Huron County OPP suspects this challenge was the motivation behind a recent incident that took place at Bannister Park in Goderich.  Sometime overnight between October 2ndand October 3rd, 2021 unknown persons destroyed the men’s and women’s washrooms. The damages are estimated to be around $3,000.  In addition to the recent damage to the washrooms, several picnic tables have been destroyed, the pavilion has been tagged with graffiti and signs have been stolen. 

Huron County OPP is also aware of other recent incidents involving damages to washrooms at both elementary and high schools in Huron County.

Meth Bust – GORE

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A resident of South Huron is facing two charges following an incident that took place at the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment earlier this week.

On Sunday, October 3, 2021 at approximately 9:10 p.m. the accused attended the Huron OPP Detachment in Clinton seeking assistance on an unrelated matter. While interacting with the accused the investigating officer noted the accused was displaying signs of impairment by way of a drug. 

The accused was then directed to not drive away from the detachment in her vehicle. The accused failed to abide by the direction and instead entered into the motor vehicle with the intent to drive away from the detachment. 

At that point the officer made a demand to the driver for a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST). The driver ultimately refused to complete the testing and was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest was completed and a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine was seized. 

Sarah GORE, 43 years of age, from South Huron has been charged with Refuse to Comply with Demand and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine. She has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 15, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Impaired Driver Ditches Vehicle

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A driver from Exeter is facing a charge of Impaired Operation following an incident that took place last weekend north of Exeter.

At approximately 7:47 p.m. on October 3, 2021 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a call about a vehicle that was in the ditch on MacDonald Road. Officers arrived minutes later whereupon they spoke with the driver. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed the driver to be displaying signs that he was impaired by a drug. As such the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was subsequently transported to the London OPP Detachment for further testing.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) completed an evaluation and it was determined the driver was indeed impaired by a drug. 

Kyle CAMPBELL, 35 years of age, from Exeter has been charged with Operation While Impaired. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 29, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Drunk Driver Arrested In Exeter

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Grand Bend resident with Impaired Operation following an early morning traffic stop last weekend in Exeter.

On Sunday, October 3, 2021 at approximately 4:14 a.m. Huron County OPP officers observed a pickup truck travelling eastbound on Huron Street West in an erratic manner. Upon stopping the pickup truck the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol and was displaying signs of impairment.

As such a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was completed and the driver performed poorly. The driver was subsequently taken into custody and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be over the legal limit.

Jeremy LYNN, 24 years of age from Grand Bend has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 29, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

40 Dogs Rescued Following Death Investigation

(BRANT COUNTY, ON.) – On Saturday October 2, 2021 members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to an ambulance assistance call at a residential address in the town of Burford in the County of Brant.

Members of the Brant County OPP Detachment, Brantford-Brant Paramedics and County of Brant Fire Department attended. One person was transported to a local hospital where they were later pronounced deceased.

The death is not suspicious and there are no public safety concerns.

More than 40 dogs were located at the home during the investigation. The OPP would like to thank our community partners for their assistance in relocating the dogs to suitable areas.

19 Year Old Caught Going 170 in an 80

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged another driver after they were speeding more than 90km/h over the limit in the Municipality of North Perth.

On September 15, 2021 just before 7:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Road 158 after it was found to be travelling in excess of 170km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Issak BUECKERT, 19, of North Perth, has been charged with:

  • Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A 30 day driving suspension and 14 day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

One Charged Following Collision

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On September 15, 2021 just after 6:00 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a two vehicle collision on Road 122 in the Municipality of Perth East. One person received minor injuries as a result of the collision.

Brodi BURNETT, a 30-year-old resident of Stratford was charged with:

  • Careless Driving

The accused was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for the charge.

Craig SOMERVILLE Arrested Again

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On September 15, 2021, just after 7:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was alerted to a motor vehicle in a field that appeared stuck, and the driver was attempting to free it. Police attended the area on Perth Road 180 in the Municipality of West Perth and spoke with the vehicle driver. During the investigation, the officer noticed the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Craig SOMERVILLE, 34, of West Perth has been charged with:

  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused in this matter was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Pervert Alert – PSW Takes & Distributes Intimate Images Of Vulnerable Resident

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On September 7, 2021, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commenced an investigation in regards to allegations of inappropriate behaviour at a long term care home in Guelph/Eramosa Township. Reports alleged that a Personal Support Worker (P.S.W.) had taken intimate images of a vulnerable resident.

As a result of the investigation, Kyla Elizabeth SKJONSBY, 22-years-old of Cambridge, has been charged with Voyeurism and Distribute Voyeurism Material. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on October 29, 2021.

The Ministry of Long Term Care has been notified. The accused is no longer an employee of the long term care home.

Sasha LANGER Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person is facing a mischief charge in the Municipality of North Perth following an incident at a local business.

On September 14, 2021, just before 4:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an individual who had entered a business on Main Street West in Listowel and caused damage to property inside.

Sasha LANGER, a 35-year-old resident of North Perth was arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On September 12, 2021, just after 6:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was dispatched to a report of an individual in the area of Elizabeth Street East in Listowel, uttering threats. The person was located a short time later and was subsequently arrested.  

David ERNEST, 29, of North Perth has been charged with:

  • Mischief – Interfere with lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property-under $5000
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Imitation Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused in this matter was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
