Fatal 2 Vehicle Collision

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Dufferin County EMS, and Fire Services attended a serious two vehicle collision in the Town of Mono.

On September 14, 2025, shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 10 between Fourth Avenue and Broadway in the Town of Mono. The collision resulted in one fatality and one person sustaining minor injuries.

Sadly, as a result of the collision, a 75-year-old, male from the Township of Amaranth was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Cocaine Bust: Names Released

(AMARANTH, ON) – As a result of a traffic stop, members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in drug related offences.

On February 15, 2025, members of the Dufferin County OPP conducted a traffic stop for a motor vehicle on County Road 109 near County Road 12 in the Township of Amaranth. Upon identification and initial investigation, it was learned that the driver was in breach of a release condition and a search of the motor vehicle was conducted. As a result:

Cynthia PENA AVALOS, a 31-year-old from Toronto has been charged with:

  • Adult Failure to comply with undertaking- (2 counts)
  • Adult Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Adult Improper number plate light
  • Adult Fail to have insurance card
  • Adult Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions

Daniel OKUYA, a 24-year-old from Toronto have been charged with:

  • Adult Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine

The following items were seized:

  • 128g of Cocaine
  • Scale
  • Cellphone

The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville, to answer to the charges.

Ralph COWAN Was Arrested – Details Released

(AMARANTH, ON) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation related offences this Valentine’s Day.  

On February 14, 2025, just before 4:00 a.m., officers from Dufferin OPP received a call for service reporting a suspicious motor vehicle in the area of County Road 12 and 5 Sideroad in the Township of Amaranth. Officers located and stopped the motor vehicle and spoke with the driver, which led to an impaired operation investigation.

Ralph COWAN, a 70-year-old from Amaranth has been charged with:

•      Adult Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs

•      Adult Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Adult Fail to notify change of address

•      Adult Fail to notify change of address- licence

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. The driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

Brandon WYSOCKI Facing Numerous Charges

(AMARANTH, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Amaranth resident with impaired operation related offences as the result of a suspicious person call for service.

On January 2, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Dufferin OPP officers were dispatched to a male who was standing in the middle of the road holding a dog. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the male. After a brief conversation, the officers were quickly led to an impaired driving investigation.

Brandon WYSOCKI, a 25-year-old male, from Amaranth has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

•      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

•      Poss of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada

•      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)

•      Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

•      Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

•      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and their vehicle impounded.

(AMARANTH, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Orangeville resident with impaired operation related offences as the result of a motor vehicle collision (MVC).

On October 26, 2024, just before 6:00 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of County Road 11 in the Township of Amaranth. The officers arrived on scene and were quickly led into an impaired driving investigation.

Samuel JENNINGS, a 27-year-old male, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Richard REDFORD – Impaired Driving

(AMARANTH, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Orangeville resident with impaired operation related offences as the result of a motor vehicle collision.

On October 12, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers were dispatched to the area of County Road 12 in the Township of Amaranth for a single motor vehicle collision. Officers arrived on scene and located a motor vehicle in the ditch with no driver in sight along with a damaged hydro pole. After a brief search of the area, officers located a male hiding in a nearby ditch and were quickly led to an impaired driving investigation.

Richard REDFORD, a 44-year-old male, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Fatal Armed Robbery

(AMARANTH, ON) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has elevated an armed robbery that occurred at a local gas station in the Town of Amaranth to a homicide investigation.

On October 7, 2024, at approximately 11:40 p.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP Detachment responded to a report of an armed robbery at a gas station on County Road 109. The individual discharged a firearm during the robbery and a victim sustained a life-threatening injury. The victim was transported by Air Ornge to a Toronto area trauma centre.

The victim has been identified as Mehakdeep Singh, a 25-year-old from Amaranth. On October 10, 2024, Mehakdeep succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The individual responsible was wearing a dark-coloured, three-quarter length winter jacket with a fur hood, black pants, black shoes, and a blue medical mask.

The investigation is ongoing by the Dufferin OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Unit, OPP Canine Unit, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

A firearm was involved in this incident. If you see this individual, do not engage or approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately to advise police.

The OPP is asking anyone in the area to check, save and secure any potential video evidence from devices at their homes or business between October 7, 2024, at 11:15 p.m. and October 8, 2024, at 12:00 a.m. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
