ALERT CITIZENS DISCOVER HOUSE FIRE

(TILLSONBURG, ON.). Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a house fire located on Frances Street, Tillsonburg at approximately 11:59 p.m. on Saturday May 24, 2014.

A passerby who smelled smoke stopped, and observed the smoke coming from the upper apartment of the residence. The passerby attended a residence nearby to contact 911. The citizens then alerted the residents living in the other apartments. Attempts were made to enter the apartment where the smoke was observed but it was too thick to enter.

OPP attended along with the Tillsonburg Fire Department.

Tillsonburg fire department members entered the residence and located and removed a female in distress.

The female was transported by Oxford County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to an area hospital with critical injuries.

The value of the damage to the residence is unknown.

The Ontario Fire Marshall is continuing with their investigation.

LAMBTON OPP INVESTIGATION AT BLUE WATER BRIDGE

(Lambton, ON) Today, May 26, 2014 Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Marine unit will continue to patrol and search the St. Clair River, for a male who was reported to have jumped from the Blue Water Bridge on May 22, 2014. The search is following the weekend effort conducted by the Lambton OPP.

Once again OPP divers will be on scene along with the Lambton OPP Marine Unit in a joint effort to search the water south of the Blue Water Bridge.

DRIVER ARRESTED AT R.I.D.E. PROGRAM

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program in the area of Moore Line and Mandaumin Road, on May 24, 2014 just after 11:00 p.m.

A Chevrolet vehicle entered the program and subsequently the driver was arrested. As a result of the arrest and following breath samples, the driver was charged with Care or Control while Impaired, and Driving Over the Legal Limit.

Craig UNSWORTH, 48 years of age from Enniskillen Township, ON has a Sarnia court date of June 9, 2014 to answer to the charges.

OBSTRUCT POLICE

(TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH)- On May 23, 2014 at 12:37am, an Officer from the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped and spoke to a male pedestrian. The male provided an incorrect name to Police.

The male was arrested and charged with the following:

Personation with Intent, Criminal Code of Canada,
Obstruct Police, Criminal Code of Canada, and
Possession of a Controlled Substance-Cocaine.

Charged is 29 year old Dean IRELAND of the Town of New Tecumseth, he was held for a bail hearing.

MISSING FEMALE LOCATED

(Bancroft, Ontario) – At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Sunday May 25th 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a missing person from a residence on Siddon Lake Place in Faraday Township. Investigation revealed that a 79 year old female of Faraday Township had left her residence at approximately 3:20 p.m. and not returned.

With the assistance of the OPP helicopter, OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP canine unit the female was located at approximately 12:50 a.m. in a heavily wooded area. She was transported to hospital by ambulance as a precautionary measure.

BEAUTIFUL JOE PARK VANDALIZED

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate a mischief incident in the hopes of identifying the person or persons responsible for vandalizing several memorial plaques in Beautiful Joe Park during the Victoria Day long weekend, May 16th – May 19th, 2014.

On Monday, May 19, 2014, Grey County OPP was notified after a park caretaker discovered the damage in the park, located on Edwin St., W., Meaford, in the Municipality of Meaford.

A total of 31; 5” x 10” engraved metal plaques were defaced by the vandal(s) by placing an X through each of the plaques using a sharp object. Each plaque is dedicated in memory of an individual’s deceased pet.

The damage is estimated at $4850.

IMPAIRED STUNT DRIVER CHARGED

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On Saturday May 24th, 2014 at approximately 1:30am a Quinte West OPP officer on general patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a extremly high rate of speed on Division St in the City of Quinte West the officer caught up to the vehicle and clocked it on radar at speeds well in excess of 50km/h over the posted limit. The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the female driver was under the influence of alcohol. The female driver was arrested after failing a roadside screening test and taken to detachment where she provided a breath sample that was over two times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

Candace SOPHA, 24 years old, of Murray Ward was charged with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood and Stunt Driving. She was given a first appearance date in June 2014.

OPP INVESTIGATING THEFT OF VEHICLE

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating the theft of a motor vehicle.

On May 24, 2014 an OPP officer attended a residence on Royal Oak Road in the former Mariposa Township in response to the theft of a motor vehicle. Stolen from the residence was a 2009 Volkswagon Jetta TDI, silver in colour with Ontario licence number AJ087.

HALIBURTON HIGHLANDS OPP SEEKS ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING MISSING MALE

(HARCOURT, ON) On May 25, 2014 at about 9:30pm Haliburton Highland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was made aware that a male had gone missing from his residence near the Harcourt area since about 12:30pm.

Terry COPE 59 years-old is described as male, white 5’6”, 160lbs, medium build, dark brown long hair, grey beard, grey mustache, green eyes. He has a tattoo of a panther on his left arm. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, black t-shirt, hunter orange ball cap, a grey zip up hoodie and tan work boots. He did have his wallet with his driver’s licence, but does not have any access to vehicles. Terry is suffering from past medical conditions that resulted in him having some memory loss.

Terry COPE does not have any other family in the area, and maybe trying to get to the Hamilton or Kingston where his relatives live.

The family is concerned for Terry’s well-being. If anyone has any information or may have seen Mr. COPE walking in the Harcourt or Wilberforce area is asked to contact Haliburton Highlands OPP.

Pets Left In Vehicles

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has investigated 2 reports of dogs locked in cars in the past 10 days. There hasn’t been a case where the pet has died, but that may change if this trend continues. A domesticated pet is dependent on the owner for proper care like food, shelter and water.

On a day where the temperature is 26 degrees Celsius, the temperature inside a vehicle parked in the shade reaches 32 degrees Celsius while the temperature inside a vehicle in the hot sun can reach 71 degrees Celsius. The operating temperature of a sauna is 70 degrees Celsius – 90 degrees Celsius.

The Criminal Code of Canada has sections that deal with the mistreatment of animals.

Cause unnecessary suffering – maximum sentence of 5 years in jail

Injure or endanger an animal – maximum sentence of 5 years in jail

Neglect an animal – maximum sentence of 2 years in jail

Take good care of your pets, it’s not just the right thing to do, it’s the law.

MVC HIT AND RUN

On Saturday May 24, at 8:45 a.m. 2014, a hit and run motor vehicle collision occurred at Wellington Street North and Shirley Avenue in the city of Kitchener involving a small car and a pick up truck. The male driver of the car which was previously reported stolen fled the scene on foot and was arrested by Waterloo Regional police a short time later. A 25 year old Waterloo male is being held for a bail hearing facing several charges including fail to remain, dangerous driving, driving while under suspension, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and breaching his probation. There were no injuries to either driver.

On Saturday, May 24, 2014 at approximately 1:26 a.m., a group of approximately six males were seen walking southbound on Albert Street in the City of Waterloo towards Columbia Street, West. The suspects engaged in a verbal argument with an adult male. Shortly thereafter, the suspects were seen chasing the male across Albert Street. The victim was found with obvious injuries and transported to hospital. The suspects were last seen running southbound on Albert Street. The suspects are described as: three Black males, two Asian males, and one White male. MVC PERSONAL INJURY

On the 24th of May 2014 at approximately 9:45am, Victoria Street North between Edna and Bruce was closed for a approximately 2 hours in order for Police to investigate a serious collision with injury. A silver Mazda was waiting to turn left into the parking lot of KW surplus on Victoria Street North, Kitchener, when they were struck from behind by a pickup truck. The Mazda was pushed 20 meters forward. As a result of the collision three adult occupants of the Mazda were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The child was not injured. The pickup truck was destroyed and the Mazda sustained major rear-end damage. The Kitchener man who was driving the pickup truck was charged with careless driving and driving while under suspension.

On May 23rd 2014 at approximately 6:00 p.m., unknown suspects set a fire in a large garbage container in the parking lot of 120 Old Carriage Drive, Kitchener. The fire was contained to the garbage bin and Kitchener Fire was able to extinguish the fire. Witnesses report seeing 2-3 individuals in dark clothing fleeing the area immediately prior to the blaze. Vehicle strikes fire hydrant affecting several homes on Arthur Street

A single motor vehicle collision on Arthur Street on May 23, 2014 caused extensive damage to a motor vehicle and several surrounding homes.

It is alleged that at 10:00 a.m. a 2009 Ford Escape being operated by a 53-year-old London man was travelling on Elizabeth Street, turning onto Arthur Street south. The driver failed to complete this turn, mounting the east curb, and striking a fire hydrant. The hydrant was knocked from the water main sending water onto Arthur Street.

City of Guelph Water Works employees worked quickly to close the main water feed, however a number of adjoining residences sustained water damage.

The driver of the Ford was not injured. Damage to the car and fire hydrant were estimated to be $6,500. A damage assessment of the homes affected by the water was unavailable.

The driver of the Ford is facing a charge of improper turn under the Highway Traffic Act.
