Several charges laid in a series of retail robberies

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid a number of charges in relation to a series of recent retail robberies. .

On June 7, 2014, at approximately 11:00 pm, a lone female suspect entered a gas station situated along the 3300 block of Fallowfield Road. The suspect asked for cigarettes and when the clerk requested payment, the suspect produced a hammer and made a demand for money. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash.

On June 11, 2014, at approximately 9:00 pm, a lone female suspect entered a gas station situated along the 2900 block of Woodroffe Avenue. The suspect asked for cigarettes and when the clerk sought payment, the suspect produced a hammer and made a demand for money. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash.

On June 15, 2014, at approximately 9:10 pm, a lone female suspect entered a gas station situated along the 1400 block of Woodroffe Avenue. The suspect asked for cigarettes and when the clerk requested identification, the suspect produced a hammer and made a demand for money and cigarettes. The suspect ultimately fled empty-handed after the clerk grabbed the hammer.

There were no injuries in any of the robberies.

On June 16, 2014, a 16 years old female was arrested without incident in relation to these robberies. She has been charged with the following offences:

Three counts of robbery

Three counts of possession of a weapon in commission of an offence

Three counts of wearing a disguise

Three counts Breach of Undertaking

The suspect will appear in Youth Court on June 17, 2014.

Mischief and Breach Probation

On the 16th of June 2014, a 33 year old London, Ontario male was released from custody at the Central North Correctional facility. He was provided a bus ticket to Barrie where he arrived in the early afternoon. The male was attempting to get money together in order to return to London, Ontario and in doing so decided to grab himself a six pack of tall boy beers to celebrate his release from custody.

The male drank the beer and became intoxicated. At approximately 12:10am on the 17th of June 2014, the male entered a convenience store in the downtown area. While in the store the male for unknown reasons went into a drunken rage knocking over displays and damaging numerous pairs of sunglasses in the process. The male then fled from the store and police were contacted to investigate.

At approximately 2 am, the male returned to the store and apologized for damaging property and attempted to set up an arrangement to pay the store back. Only problem was the male has no source of income and no ability to pay for the damage.

Police were called to attend again and subsequently arrested the male for Mischief Under $5000. It was then revealed he was on two separate probation orders which had conditions for him to be good and keep the peace. The male was held pending a bail hearing and will likely be returning to Central North Correctional facility sometime in the afternoon on the 17th of June 2014!

A Bicycle Can Be Stolen In Seconds

(ST.MARYS, ON) A 13 year old St.Marys male discovered that it takes only seconds for a bike to be stolen.

On Saturday June 14, 2014, the male contacted a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer to report the theft of his bicycle. He advised that at 1:30 p.m., he had left his bicycle in front of the VIDEO 99 variety store along Queen St. East while he was inside. When walking out the store a few minutes later he discovered that his bike had been stolen.

Description of the bike:

– A white youth BMX framed bike

– Blue handlebars with blue hand grips

– White walled tires

– Rear tire is a “slick”

– Has blue pedals

Bicycle owners are reminded to lock their bicycles to solid objects when leaving them in public places. Locking sheds and garages where bicycles are stored will also make it less desirable for bicycle thieves. Copy down your bicycle serial number and description, this will assist in identifying and possibly returning the bike to you.

Serious Two Vehicle Collision

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Monday June 16, 2014, shortly after 6 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 8 and Road 125 (West of Stratford).

Investigation revealed that at approximately 6 p.m. a silver Toyota sedan was travelling east bound in the east bound lane on Hwy 8. When the Toyota neared the intersection of Road 125, it crossed over into the west bound lane where a Chevrolet Blazer was travelling west bound. A frontal collision ensued resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles.

The male driver of the Toyota and the female driver of the Chevrolet, both Stratford residents, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The male was later transported to a London hospital.

The OPP Western Region Traffic Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and is continuing the investigation into this crash.

Crash Results In Two Person Transported to Hospital

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday June 14, 2014, shortly before 2:30 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Elma St. East and Wellington Ave South in Listowel.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that a Mazda M31 was travelling West bound on Elma Street East crossing the Wellington Ave South intersection. A North bound Honda Accord on Wellington Ave South entered the intersection and struck the driver’s side of the Mazda. The impact caused the Mazda to veer towards the North West corner of the intersection where it struck a building. The 31 year old female driver of the Honda and her 6 year old female passenger, both Wellington County residents, were transported to local hospital with minimal injuries. The 26 year old female driver of the Mazda, a Municipality of North Perth resident also sustained minimal injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

The driver of the Honda has been charged with “fail to yield to traffic on through highway”.

Tool Stolen From Garage

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday June 14, 2014, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a residence on Thathan Place (south of the Fairview Cemetery in Listowel), where the homeowner discovered that a theft had taken place from his garage.

Investigation revealed that sometime between 10 p.m. on Thursday June 12th, and 8 a.m. on Friday June 13th, unknown person(s) entered the unlocked man-door of the residential garage and removed power tools.

Stolen tools:

– Porter Cable, gray/black coloured cordless drill, model 987

– Porter Cable, gray/black coloured cordless flashlight

– Porter Cable, gray/black coloured cordless reciprocating saw, model 837

– Porter Cable, gray/black coloured cordless circular saw, model 845

– Motomaster, black coloured mobile battery pack model 500A

Police Investigate Overnight Break Ins

(KINCARDINE, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating two overnight break ins reported on June 14, 2014. Sometime between 5:00 pm on June 13, 2014 and 9:00 am on June 14, 2014 entry was forcibly gained, to the Clothes Hamper in the 700 block of Queen Street in Kincardine, through the main door. A quantity of cash and coin was taken.

A second break in during the same time frame was reported at Baxter’s Row, in the 700 block of Queen Street, where entry was forcibly gained through the back door. Once inside, a quantity of cash and coin was taken.

There is no estimate on the cost of repairs to either business at this time.

TAXI DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OVER 80 MG

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Sunday, June 15, 2014 at approximately 3:28 a.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after witnessing a taxi driver of a local cab company consuming alcohol at a house party in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

Police observed the suspect vehicle, a red 2007 Toyota, travelling eastbound on Grey Rd. 5 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The driver, who was carrying two passengers inside the vehicle at the time, was found to have been drinking alcohol and was subsequently given a road side breath test, which he failed. The driver was arrested for impaired driving. The taxi was towed and another taxi attended the scene to transport the passengers to their destination.

The accused was transported to the Chatsworth Detachment for further breath tests which concluded he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Matthew John KIRK, 29, of Owen Sound, was charged with impaired/over 80 milligrams and is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, July 10, 2014.

WEEKEND BREAK IN RESULTS IN ARRESTS

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two adults in relation to a break and enter over the weekend.

On Friday June 13, 2014 at around 7:45 pm police received a call that a resident had returned home to find her residence in the Central Area of Kenora had been broken into and the suspect was still in the residence. Police attended and located the male in the residence. The investigation determined that the male and another suspect had forced entry into the residence and when the home owner returned, one had fled the scene and the other had hid inside the residence.

As a result of this investigation 19 year old Timothy KENT and 18 year old Gerald SMITH of Kenora have been charged with Break and Enter contrary to section 348(1)(a) the Criminal Code. SMITH was released to attend Kenora court on July 31, 2014 to answer to the charge. KENT has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

MISCHIEF TO SCHOOL

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating an incident of mischief to a school located on Oxbow Drive in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre.

Sometime between 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 and 7:55 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, unknown suspect(s) attended the property on Oxbow Drive. Once on the property, the suspect(s) caused damaged to the rear entry doors. The value of the damage is estimated at approximately $5000.00.

OPERATION LOOKOUT ASSISTS IN IMPAIRED DRIVER ARREST

(Billings Township, ON) – On Friday June 13, 2014 at 7:21 pm Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police received a report from a concerned citizen advising that a driver 2003 red Chevy Malibu was possibly impaired. Short time later another 911 call came into the OPP advising that this same vehicle was driving in an erratic manner. As a result of information received by the public this vehicle was located a short time later in Billings Township. As a result of this investigation the driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with drinking and driving offenses.

Charged with Impaired Operation Care and Control and Exceeding 80 mgs of Alcohol is Jeremiah WASSEGIJIG age 24 of M’Chigeeng, Ontario. He was released from custody on a Promise to Appear will be appearing in Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay to answer to the said charges. The vehicle was subsequently impounded.

Operation Lookout is an island wide program that encourages motorists or the public to call and report possible impaired or aggressive drivers. By calling 911 or OPP (677) from your cell phone you can give a description of the vehicle and direction of travel. The police can then intercept and check the driver out.

DOMESTIC ALTERCATION LEADS TO WEAPON CHARGES

(Sandfield Township, ON) – On Saturday June 14, 2014 at 12:10 am Manitoulin OPP officers responded to a call in relation to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Sandfield Township. During the altercation a firearm was displayed. As a result of this investigation a 20 year old Manitoulin man has been charged with the following offences

Domestic Assault
Mischief – Domestic
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Careless storage of a Firearm

The male was held in custody to appear for a Bail Hearing on Monday June 16, 2004 at 10:00 am at Ontario Bail Court in Gore Bay, Ontario.

FRIDAY THE 13TH RESULTS

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reporting that this past Friday the 13th, Motorcycle Event, Port Dover was a relatively peaceful event.

Numerous motorcycles and spectators descended on Port Dover starting early Friday morning, with only few minor incidents occurring.

Police responded to several reported incidents in Port Dover throughout the day with a majority of the incidents being medical and liquor related, 911 hang up calls (pocket dials) from cellular phones as well as motorcycle collisions.

Over the course of the evening hours several people were arrested for Liquor Licence related offences, with police also responding to assaults, mischiefs and motor vehicle collisions. Police also conducted several R.I.D.E. programs and responded to several domestic related calls for service.

All in all for the large number of people attending Port Dover, estimated at approximately 100,000, the crowds were well behaved.

“We responded to minor calls for service. This was a well-attended event with no major issues encountered by the OPP. I would like to thank all those in attendance for their orderly behaviour and working respectively to ensure everyone’s safety,” comments Inspector Zvonko HORVAT, Norfolk County OPP Detachment Commander.

MALE ARRESTED AFTER POLICE STOP VEHICLE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region Highway Enforcement Team have charged a 35 year old male after police stopped a motor vehicle at a Norfolk Street North, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Friday, June 13, 2014 at approximately 11:09 a.m., police observed a motor vehicle travelling on Norfolk Street North which attracted the officer’s attention. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was investigated.

As a result of investigation, police arrested and charged the driver of the motor vehicle.

Charged with the following offences is 35 year old Robert Corey MCARTHUR of Norfolk County, Ontario.

Drive motor vehicle using a handheld wireless communication device

Driving while under suspension

Possession of Marihuana

Possession of OxyContin

Possession of Morphine

Drive motor vehicle – no licence

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charges.
