Private Drinking Water Drop-off Locations

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is modifying private drinking water drop-off locations to further protect local hospitals and residents

In order to reduce the number of people visiting hospitals during the COVID-19 outbreak, hospitals will no longer be accepting drinking water samples. While hospital have long been a location for residents to drop off drinking water samples, the Grey Bruce Health Unit has worked with a number of local partners to provide new private drinking water drop-off locations in their place. These samples are couriered to the London Public Health lab for testing.

To ensure that residents still have access to locations to drop off drinking water samples for testing, Foodland in Wiarton, Foodland in Markdale and Sobeys in Kincardine have all volunteered to host drop-off locations. Additionally the Grey Bruce Health Unit building in Owen Sound will continue to act as a drop-off location.

City Declares State of Emergency – COVID-19 Resources and Information

On Friday, March 27th at 9:00am, Mayor Ian Boddy declared a State of Emergency for the City of Owen Sound.

How to Protect Yourself

Everyone should practice good basic hygiene as a preventative measure to protect against the novel coronavirus and other viruses in this cold and flu season.

avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth

avoid contact with people who are sick

clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

stay home if you are sick

Staff is in consultation with the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit on a regular basis, following their guidelines, best practices and recommendations. The City will continue to provide essential services to residents including transit, water services, garbage pickup and emergency services.

Applications for Emergency Child Care Now Available

On March 22, the Province of Ontario made provisions for certain child care centres to remain open to support health care and other frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the service manager, the City of Stratford Social Services Department has been working over the past few weeks to support the opening of emergency child care in Perth County for those essential workers. This includes supporting the Municipality of North Perth in the development and approval of their Emergency Child Care Plan.

Pending approval by the Ministry of Education, a total of 25 spaces are anticipated to be available at North Perth – Spinrite Child and Family Centre in Listowel from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for children ages 18 months to 12 years. These spaces will be allocated in order of application, and will only be available to those on the list of workers eligible for emergency child care, and who have exhausted all other possibilities for child care. The list of eligible workers is available at https://www.ontario.ca/page/child-care-health-care-and-frontline-staff

Given the growing concerns about the spread of COVID-19 and its impact on our community, both the City of Stratford and Municipality of North Perth have developed policies and procedures with input from Huron Perth Public Health to ensure the health and well-being of the children, families, staff and the broader community.

North Perth Spinrite Child and Family Centre is licensed for 211 children, but will be accepting a maximum of 25 to ensure proper social distancing and safety.

Huron Perth Public Health has already granted approval for the provision of emergency child care at North Perth – Spinrite Child and Family Centre.

County of Huron Recovery Team remains committed to helping local businesses

[Huron County, Ontario] – Many local businesses in Huron County are challenged to continue staying open or maintain regular operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The County of Huron Recovery Team is focused on ensuring that business owners have the information and support that they need to make informed decisions and continue to operate.

“It’s clear that immediately going back to business as usual any time soon is unlikely, but the County is committed to helping all businesses maintain operations as much as possible,” says Warden Jim Ginn. “Regardless of a business’ situation, we need to ensure that we are doing what we can to help them adapt to the ‘new normal.’ We are dedicated to working collaboratively and supporting the local business community.”

Staff member at Huronview Home for the Aged confirmed positive for COVID-19

[Huron County, Ontario] – The County of Huron has been notified of one (1) confirmed case of COVID-19 for a staff member within the Huronview Home for the Aged in Clinton. At this time, there are no resident cases of COVID-19.

Huronview Home for the Aged is working closely with Huron Perth Public Health to identify who that individual has been in contact with before their symptoms started. Residents, staff and community members who are determined to be at risk are being contacted to prevent further spread of illness in the Home or in the community.

Rigorous COVID-19 testing will begin this evening for all staff and residents within Huronview. Using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Huron County healthcare providers are being brought on-site to assist with the swabbing. Huronview Home for the Aged is working with the Huron Perth Medical Officer of Health for further infection control support, all staff and residents are following the recommended preventative actions.

To help control the spread of COVID-19, the Province has directed long-term care homes to declare an outbreak if a resident or staff member tests positive. In addition to measures already in place, effective immediately, the following new outbreak measures are in effect at Huronview Home for the Aged:

All palliative visitors are now restricted within Huronview Home for the Aged

If a resident is taken home while the Home is in an outbreak, the resident will not be re- admitted until the outbreak is over.

“We are doing everything we can to ensure we stop the spread of this virus within our Home”, says Warden Jim Ginn. “We are in very close communication with Huron Perth Public Health and all precautions are being taken to protect our residents, as well as our valued staff.”

As always, the wellbeing and safety of every member of the Homes for the Aged community is the County’s first priority. The County’s long-term care staff continue to be committed in providing compassionate care for all residents and are taking every precautionary measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Break And Enter To Abandoned Building

(PICTON, ON) – On Tuesday April 28, 2020 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County Detachment investigated a report of a break and enter to an abandoned building in Bloomfield.

OPP were notified of a broken window at location. Investigation revealed the break in had occurred sometime previously and found people had entered the building.

The Prince Edward County OPP is seeking assistance from the public. If anyone has any knowledge of this incident they are asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Confrontation With Naked Man Triggers Call To Police

(LAKESHORE, ON) – On April 27, 2020 at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspicious person on Lakeshore Road 209.

The complainant, while walking his dogs, reports confronting a naked man on the walking path in the Lakeshore Conservation area. Words were exchanged and the complainant returned to the parking lot where he again saw the suspect, now dressed and leaving in a vehicle. The suspect allegedly displayed a weapon to the complainant before leaving the area.

The suspect is described as male, white, approximately 30-years-old, 160 pounds, clean shaven and having numerous tattoos. He was wearing camouflaged shorts, a green tank top and ball cap when observed leaving the area.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a green Toyota or Honda sedan, 4-door, with blue license plates starting with CMEH. The vehicle had a Realtree” brand sticker of a deer’s head and antlers centered on the rear window.

The OPP Essex County Crime Unit is asking anyone who may have information regarding this incident or the identity of the involved person or vehicle

Ross FORBES Arrested For Drug Driving

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – On Tuesday April 29, 2020 just before 2:30 p.m. Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a report of a two vehicle head-on collision on Manitoba Street near Gibbs Road in Bracebridge. Officers responded along with Muskoka Paramedic Services and one person was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

As a result of their investigation into the collision, police have arrested and charged 46 year-old of Muskoka Lakes Twp, ON with Impaired Operation by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on July 7, 2020 to answer to his charge and his driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days.

Rory OLIVER Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(Tay Township, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 12 near Triple Bay Rd. in Tay Township at 10:14pm on April 28 2020. On arrival at the scene, officers located a vehicle in the ditch and spoke with the driver. Police entered into an impaired driving investigation and as a result of the investigation officers arrested the driver who was transported to the Southern Georgian Bay detachment.

As a result of the investigation, Rory OLIVER, 21 years of Tay Township is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

Operation While Impaired

Operation While Blood Alcohol – 80 or above

The accused was released and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 2, 2020 in Midland.

Speeder Facing Impaired Charge – SCHUYLER

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Monday April 27, 2020 at approximately 11:54 a.m. members of the London Highway Safety Division (HSD) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Lidar enforcement at Elgin Road when they located a motor vehicle travelling in excess of 140 km/h on Highway 401.

The vehicle was stopped and the officer determined that the driver had been drinking, a roadside screening test was conducted and the driver was placed under arrest. The accused was transported to the London OPP detachment for further tests.

As a result of an investigation police have charged Danny SCHUYLER -age 62- of London, Ontario with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a London court room on June 11, 2020 to speak to the charges.

Suspended Driver Caught Going 135 in an 80 – HUDSON

(WEST PERTH, ON) – A 22-year old Goderich resident is facing charges after a traffic stop in West Perth.

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on April 27 2020, a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling Perth Road 180, in the Municipality of West Perth, when a vehicle was observed to be speeding. The vehicle was found to be travelling in excess of 135km/h in a posted 80km/h zone.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the driver’s licence was suspended.

As a result, Autumn Lynne HUDSON, 22, of Goderich, is charged with:

Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed

Driving while under suspension

An additional seven day driving suspension was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Scammer Working At Roadside Triggers Calls To Police

(PERTH EAST, ON) – A citizen who thought they were helping someone in need has realized that they were the victim of a scam.

The victim was driving on Perth Line 26, in the Township of Perth East, around 3:00 p.m. on April 27 2020, when they were flagged down by another motorist. The male suspect claimed he needed money for gas, and offered to sell a gold ring for money. The victim gave the suspect $20.

Police received numerous calls about the same suspect and vehicle in that area, and the OPP investigation has revealed that this was in fact a scam, and the gold ring was fake.

The OPP is urging the public to be cautious when dealing with someone who they don’t know, and report suspicious activity immediately. For more information on fraud, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or visit http://www.antifraudcentre.ca.

Break In At Seasonal Property

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a break-in to a seasonal home located north of Goderich on Runway Line.

Investigators were called to the cottage property yesterday morning after workers checked on the property and found signs that someone had been living inside. Blankets had been put up over the windows, items were left out of place and drug paraphernalia was left behind.

Investigators believe the cottage was entered sometime between 12:00 noon on April 23, 2020 and 9:30 a.m. on April 27, 2020.

At this point in time it is unknown whether any property was stolen.

Prohibited Suspended Driver Arrested – HUNTER

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a North Huron resident with driving related charges following a traffic stop that took place yesterday morning.

On Monday, April 27, 2020 at approximately 10:00 a.m. a Huron OPP officer was patrolling around Belfast when the officer spotted a suspected suspended driver operating a cross-over utility vehicle.

A traffic stop was completed and upon checking on the licence status of the driver police learned the driver was prohibited from driving due to Criminal Code convictions, as well the driver was currently suspended. As such the driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Shannon HUNTER, 37 years of age, from North Huron has been charged with Operation While Prohibited and Driving While Under Suspension. She has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 6, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
