Tyler RUSSELL – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment has charged a 27-year-old with impaired driving following a traffic stop on Ottawa Street, Haldimand County, ON.   

On Friday November 27, 2020 at 8:15 p.m., OPP were conducting patrols in the Cayuga area when a vehicle caught the attention of an officer.

Police stopped the vehicle and investigated.

While the officer spoke with the driver, signs of impairment were detected and the driver was subsequently arrested.

OPP has charged 27-year-old Tyler RUSSELL of Cayuga, Haldimand County, ON with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

Officer Assaulted By Drunk Driver – Hanna ACASTER

(ST. CLAIR TWP, ON) – On November 19, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a possible impaired driver complaint on Lyndoch Street, St. Clair Township.  

Lambton OPP members located the vehicle on River Road and spoke with the driver. Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage and was displaying signs of impairment. The officer attempted to place the driver under arrest for impaired operation when the driver actively resisted. The officer was able to gain control and place the driver into the rear of the police cruiser. At that time, the driver proceeded to kick the officer multiple times prior to the door being closed. The driver was transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where they refused to provide a breath sample.  

Hanna ACASTER, 30 year old of St. Clair TWP, has been charged with Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Blood, Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand and Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.  

The accused was held in custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Sarnia.

(PETROLIA, ON) – On November 18, 2020 at approximately 11:30 p.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol in the Town of Petrolia.

Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage, at which time a roadside screening device was administered. A reading of “FAIL” was determined. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and provided two samples over the legal limit.

Ronald SHEFFER – Drunk Driving

(ST. CLAIR TWP, ON) – On November 16, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol on Stanley Line, St. Clair Township.  

While on patrol, a Lambton OPP member initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle being operated erratically. Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage and was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where they provided two samples of breath above the legal limit.

Repeat Offender Donald FERGUSON Arrested Again – Methamphetamine & Crack Cocaine

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – On November 8, 2020 at approximately 5:00 a.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were on general patrol on Lakeshore Road, Municipality of Lambton Shores. 

Lambton OPP members located the vehicle stopped in a live lane of traffic. The officer approached the vehicle and located the driver asleep in the driver seat. Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment and performed a drug recognition evaluation. 

Further search of the vehicle located suspected methamphetamine and crack cocaine. 

Donald FERGUSON, 52 years-old of Kincardine, has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug, Failure to comply with Release Order (Two counts) and Failure to Comply with Undertaking, pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also charged with two counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance, pursuant to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. 

The accused was held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia.

Christina English Facing Drunk Driving Charge – Vehicle Found In Ditch

(PETROLIA, ON) – On November 5, 2020 at approximately 7:40 p.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Lambton County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Lambton Shores Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on Northville Road, Municipality of Lambton Shores.  

Lambton OPP members located the vehicle in the ditch.  Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage and was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the local hospital via Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with minor injuries. The driver provided two suitable samples of breath above the legal limit.  

Christina ENGLISH, 29 year-old of South Hampton, has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs and Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia, Ontario on December 14, 2020.

(PETROLIA, ON) – On October 31, 2020 at approximately 12:30 a.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Discovery Line, Town of Petrolia.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia, Ontario on November 23, 2020.

Mask By-law For North Huron? Have Your Say Now 519-357-4668

Someone told North Huron council they could put unpaid mask fines on property tax bills. Rumor is they are now considering an absolute by-law with a hefty fine for mask non-compliance. 

North Huron councilors were opposed to masks, as demonstrated in August when they swarmed a Citizen in council chambers. Reeve bernie bailey had to be yelled at to “BACK OFF OR PUT A MASK ON” as he was inches from the masked Citizen’s face. Reeve bailey jumped back several feet in shock, and rumor is he had to change into dry pants before the police arrived.

Significant winter storm expected Monday into Wednesday.

A low pressure system is expected to track just east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario on Monday bringing rain, snow and strong winds throughout Southern Ontario. This low pressure system is expected to remain over Southern Ontario until Wednesday.

Precipitation is expected to begin Monday morning as rain or snow and change to snow Monday afternoon. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm are possible by Tuesday morning.

Snow will continue Tuesday and into early Wednesday. Total snowfall amounts are fairly uncertain at this time, however, additional snowfall amounts near 30 cm are a possibility for areas along the southern shore of Georgian Bay.

Strong northwesterly winds gusting near 70 km/h are also possible Monday night and Tuesday, particularly near Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

Difficult travel conditions are expected as snow covered and icy roads are possible, particularly Monday evening into Tuesday.

Precipitation associated with this low pressure system is expected to move east of the area by Wednesday night.

$5,750/Day In Fines Possible For Those Not Following Covid-19 Rules

Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Public Health has issued a Class Order under Section 22 of Ontario’s Health Protection and Promotion Act.

The Order is a legal measure that authorizes the health unit to enforce individual compliance with public health instructions. The key focus of this Order is to ensure people who have been told to self-isolate or quarantine by public health or a health care provider are doing so. Those who do not comply can be given a ticket under the Reopening Ontario Act with a fine of $750 per day. You could be charged and fined up to $5,000 per day under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

Dr. Klassen says that while most Huron Perth residents have been doing what they should, there has recently been an increased lack of adherence by people who have been told to self-isolate because they are COVID positive or are a high risk contact to a positive case. “Our case and contact investigators are finding more and more people who are not willing to adhere to our instructions to self-isolate. This is not acceptable, as it threatens the health of other members of the community as well as increases the potential to overwhelm our healthcare system. This Order gives us the authority to charge people who will not follow our instructions.”

This Class Order applies to anyone who has been told to self-isolate and/or quarantine for any reason related to COVID-19 by Huron Perth Public Health, or a healthcare provider at an assessment/testing centre, emergency department or family doctor’s office.

Instructions included within the Order include isolating yourself in accordance with instructions provided by Huron Perth Public Health, keeping those around you safe from infection, staying away from vulnerable persons, and seeking prompt medical attention should you need it.

The order came into effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, November 29 and applies to all residents of Huron and Perth counties. It can be enforced by public health inspectors, and provincial offence officers such as police and by-law officers.

Covid-19 In Area Schools: Northside Christian, St. Ambrose, Anne Hathaway & Goderich Collegiate

  • There are a total of 318 confirmed cases in Huron-Perth (11 more than yesterday), with 44 cases currently active. Sadly, yesterday we learned of the death of a community member who had tested positive for COVID and had been hospitalized; our thoughts go out to this individual’s family.
  • Four people who are confirmed cases are currently in hospital (3 are community members and 1 is related to the Cedarcroft outbreak).
  • There are 2 active long-term care home outbreaks and 1 active school outbreak.
  • Cedarcroft Place Retirement Residence remains in outbreak.

Cedarcroft outbreak

The current status of the Cedarcroft outbreak is a cumulative total of 45 confirmed cases in residents, and 22 cases in staff:

RESIDENTS:

  • Total number of resident cases: 45
  • Total number of deaths: 11
  • Total residents active: 1 (who was decanted due to other illness and remains in hospital)
  • Total residents recovered: 33

STAFF:

  • Total number of staff cases: 22
  • Total number of staff cases resolved: 20
    • Total number of staff cases active: 2

Long-term care homes

  • An outbreak was declared at Knollcrest Lodge in Milverton after a symptomatic staff person tested positive. Outbreak measures are in place and testing continues.
  • An outbreak was declared at Spruce Lodge after an asymptomatic staff person tested positive during routine surveillance testing. Outbreak measures are now in place and testing continues.

Schools

  • The outbreak status continues for Northside Christian School and the school remains closed. Due to the nature of the school, one cohort could not be identified and therefore HPPH has closed the school until at least December 1. HPPH will determine when the outbreak is over and when the school can be reopened
  • There are confirmed cases at Goderich Collegiate in Goderich and Anne Hathaway elementary school in Stratford
    • Each of the schools has 1 confirmed case and cohorts have been dismissed
    • Our case and contact management team are following up with close contacts.
  • There are 3 confirmed cases at St. Ambrose School. Our public health investigation has determined that there was not transmission at school. A cohort has been dismissed and our case and contact management team are following up with close contacts.
  • Public Health will contact you if you are considered a high-risk/close contact to a confirmed case with further direction. If you do not hear from public health, then it has been determined that you are not a close contact.
