Two Arrested During Break And Enter – VANDETTE & DOIRE

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – On November 29, 2020 shortly before 9:00 p.m. members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a Break and Enter in progress on Whitewood Avenue West in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Upon police arrival, officers located two individuals inside the residence. 

Joey VANDETTE, a 26-year-old resident of Cobalt, has been arrested and charged with:

  •  Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. 

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

 Sylvie DOIRE, a 50-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on December 22, 2020 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Murder Plans Lead To Charges For Kevin HUMPHREY

(EAST HAWKESBURY TWP, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Hawkesbury area resident after an investigation into serious threats and harassment. 

On June 21, 2020, the OPP received a complaint about threatening messages. Officers attended a campground on County Road 19 in East Hawkesbury Township to begin an investigation.

The Hawkesbury OPP Crime unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch determined that an individual had been developing a plan to kill individuals. Officers arrested the accused on December 1, 2020.

Kevin HUMPHREY, age 56 of East Hawkesbury Township has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Counselling an Indictable offence which is not committed – sec. 464(a)
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – sec. 264(1)(a) – two counts
  • Criminal harassment-threatening conduct – sec. 264(2)(d)

The accused was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on December 1, 2020.

Adult Charged For Having Over 30 Grams Of Weed In Public

(NIPIGON, ON) – On December 1st 2020 at approximately 1 pm officers from the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on First Street in the Town of Nipigon.

Officers conducting the RIDE check had an opportunity to stop a driver. The officers conducted an investigation that lead to the seizure of a quantity of marihuana.

Joseph Marshall age 57 of Red Rock, Ontario is charged with:

  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis in a public place, contrary to the Cannabis Act 8(1)(a).

Owners Charged Following Dog Attacks

(PETERBOROUGH COUNTY, ON)-Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an animal complaint on Kinsale Road in Selwyn Township on October 31, 2020 at approximately 5:00pm. The complainant reported that their dog had been attacked by another dog and had suffered serious injuries that required medical attention.

On November 27, 2020 at approximately 12:00pm, officers attended a residence on Moodie Drive in Douro-Dummer Township. The complainant reported that their two dogs were attacked by their neighbour’s two dogs. Both of the complainant’s dogs suffered serious injuries that require ongoing medical attention.

Both owners of the attacking dogs have been charged under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in March 2021.

As stated in the Act, the owner of a dog shall exercise reasonable precautions to prevent it from,

(a) Biting or attacking a person or domestic animal; or

(b) Behaving in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals

It is important to be in control of your dog at all times.

John Salvagna Facing Impaired Driving Charge

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) Tuesday December 1st, 2020 at approximately 10:12 a.m., Officers from the Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a car swerving from shoulder to shoulder while being driven on highway #35 in the township of Lake of Bays. Police conducted a traffic stop of the car and determined that the driver was under the influence of an intoxicating substance. 

The investigation resulted in John Salvagna a 52 year old male from Algonquin Highlands Township, Ontario being charged with the following:

–  Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired, contrary to section 320.14 (1)(a) 

  of the Criminal Code.

Salvagna was released and will be appearing in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville Ontario, on January 20th, 2020 to answer to his charge.

Huntsville OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers. The OPP is reminding drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when operating a motor vehicle.

12,750 Cartons Of Cigarettes Seized

(NIPIGON, ON) – On November 29, 2020 at approximately 3:34 PM officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipigon Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11-17, Shuniah Township.

 As a result of the traffic stop, officers located and seized 12,750 cartons of unmarked cigarettes. Officers also seized a quantity of Canadian currency.

 Daniel Deschamps, age 46 of Winnipeg, MB has been charged with the following offences:

  •  Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco Criminal Code 121.1
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.

 The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Nipigon Ontario Court of Justice on March 2, 2021.

Ruth CASWELL – Assault With Weapon

(MEAFORD, ON) – On November 29, 2020 at 10:25 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to an assault at a residential complex at Parker Street West in the Municipality of Meaford.  

Two people were talking in the hallway of this apartment building, when a third person entered the hallway with a baseball bat and made threatening gestures at these people. There were no injuries.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Ruth CASWELL, 61 years-of-age, from Meaford, ON with assault with a weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on January 7, 2021.

Crap Load Of More Impaired Drivers

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – The Oxford County and County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), arrested four drivers with alcohol related driving offences in Oxford County.

On November 28, 2020, at approximately 1:55 a.m., OPP received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401, Blandford Blenheim Township.

Police spoke with the driver, and it was determined that the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody for testing.

As a result, 30-year-old William ZIMMER of Chatham was charged with the following offences:

  •  Operation While Impaired
  •  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) 

On November 28, 2020, at approximately 3:10 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop after a vehicle drew attention to the officer, on Quarter Town Line, Tillsonburg.

Police spoke with the driver, and it became apparent that the driver had consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) test was administered, resulting in a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, 26-year-old Jose LOPEZ-RODRIGEUZ of Tillsonburg was charged with the following offences:

  •  Operation While Impaired
  •  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

On November 29, 2020, at approximately 6:30 p.m., OPP received a report of a disturbance on Highway 403, Norwich Township.

Police located the vehicle involved, and conducted a traffic stop. Officers spoke with the driver, and determined the driver was displaying signs of impairment. An ASD test was administered, resulting in a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, 43-year-old Mark MAY of Peterborough was charged with the following offences:

  •  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  •  Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
  •  Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
  •  Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit
  •  Novice Driver – BAC Above Zero

On November 29, 2020, at approximately 8:20 p.m., OPP received a report of a traffic complaint on Highway 401, South-West Oxford Township.

Police located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The driver was administered an ASD test, which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, 32-year-old Larysa ONYSKIW of St. Catherines was charged with the following offences:

  •  Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

All of the accused had their drivers licences suspended and vehicles impounded.

They are all scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock at a later date.

Share Your Feedback on Brockton’s 2021 Municipal Budget

he Municipality of Brockton would like to consult and engage with residents about the 2021 Municipal Budget. There are many factors that affect the Municipality’s operating budget, and staff continually balance necessary costs and priorities while maintaining the service levels that our community expects. Staff are always looking for efficiencies that can result in cost savings. Activities are also tied to priorities set out by Council. We encourage Brockton residents to visit our Budget Consultaton 2021 project on our Community Engagement Website, Build Your Brockton to share your feedback on the 2021 Budget. Fill out our Budget Survey, ask questions to our Chief Financial Officer, and share your ideas! Your feedback will be considered as part of the 2021 Budget. 

The Council of the Municipality of Brockton will be holding 2021 Budget Meetings on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. and Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

Virtual Open Houses – AMDSB

Our secondary schools are hosting virtual open houses for grades 6 and 8 prospective students between December 10 and 17.

Normally at this time of year, schools host open houses for prospective grades 6 and 8 students who are moving on from their current school. Due to COVID-19 protocols, hosting a large in-person event is not possible, so AMDSB schools are hosting virtual events to showcase their school and the unique programs they have to offer. 


Throughout December (dates below), schools will launch videos and other virtual events and resources to give families and students an overview of the school, and take the opportunity to highlight the exciting things happening in their building. Brockton Landfill Hours

From November 1 to March 31, the Brant Landfill will be open on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Greenock Landfill will be open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Walkerton/Hanover Landfill will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A reminder that the Walkerton Recycling Depot is now open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. If a staff member is not present at the Depot, residents can leave items in the front of the first bay door or take their material to one of the Municipal Landfill Sites during regular hours of operation. Cardboard, film plastics, Styrofoam, and clothing donations can be dropped at the Depot at any time without a staff member present.

Glen McNeil New Head Of Huron County Council

Huron County, Ontario – Huron County Council elected Glen McNeil, Mayor of the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, as Huron’s new Warden at the December 2nd Inaugural Session.  This next term of Warden is for the 2021-2022 period, which represents the final two years of Council’s term before the next municipal election in October 2022.

“Over the next two years, I hope to lead County Council with integrity and compassion.  I plan to support, and help guide, the many great initiatives and projects that the County is engaged in”, says newly elected Warden Glen McNeil.  “Through the shared determination of Council and staff, I believe we can accomplish great things that will have lasting benefits in our community”.

Warden is the term used to describe the Head of a County Council. Some of the functions of this role include chairing council meetings, providing leadership to council, representing the County at official functions, acting as its official Spokesperson, and more. The position of Warden is achieved through a vote of peers on County Council.

“I believe in a resilient Huron County that respects our heritage, looks to the future with forward thinking, and most of all, takes care of one another. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve the Huron County community in this capacity”, adds Warden McNeil.

Glen McNeil was elected to the Council of the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh in 2014 and acclaimed as their Mayor in 2018. As a member of Huron County Council, he is the current Chair of the Huron County Library Board, a member of the Huron County Facility Review Committee, and the Homelessness Task Force Committee. Warden McNeil also participates in the bi-weekly round table discussions with other local municipal Reeves, Mayors, and Chief Administrative Officers since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic for effective communication and collaboration between all municipalities.

Home Invader Gains Entry As Fake Delivery Person

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating after receiving a report of an assault at an Oxford Street, Ingersoll address.

On December 1, 2020, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a resident who was expecting some items that were ordered online, answered the front door after hearing a knock. 

Investigation determined that a person holding a package, entered the residence. After a very brief conversation, the resident was assaulted.  No injuries were reported.

Police are reminding the public, if you make any online purchases that would be delivered to your door, to let the delivery person leave it without making contact.

Stolen Property Recovered – Two Charged

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a 47-year-old Cambridge male in connection to stolen property. On November 24, 2020, two males attended a business on Barbara Street in Cambridge and allegedly used false identification to obtain a moving vehicle. On November 28, 2020, at approximately 5:40 a.m., police responded to a motel on Hespeler Road in Cambridge for a suspicious vehicle report. Reports indicated that three individuals were observed unloading items from a moving vehicle into a motel room.

The moving vehicle was gone on arrival, however, further investigation revealed that the individuals failed to return the moving vehicle after it was past due. On November 28, 2020, at approximately 10:50 a.m., police identified and located the suspect. A 47-year-old Cambridge male has been charged with a number of offences including Possession of stolen property over $5000, Possession of stolen property under $5000, Theft of motor vehicle, Fraud under $5,000, and Personation with intent.
