THOMPSON Was Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On January 12, 2025, at approximately 1:50 a.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Haldimand Road 49, Dunnville.

The investigation determined that a single vehicle was involved in a collision. The driver, and lone occupant suffered minor injuries.

As a result, 24-year-old Shinelle THOMPSON was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on February 11, 2025.

Michelle HONKOOP – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On January 11, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Haldimand Road 55, Nanticoke.

The investigation determined that a single vehicle was involved in a collision. The driver, and lone occupant suffered minor injuries.

As a result, 49-year-old Michelle HONKOOP of Jarvis was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on February 11, 2025.

28 Year Old Arrested For Impaired Driving

(GERALDTON, ON) – Members of the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have arrested and charged one individual with impaired operation. 

 On January 11th, 2025, at 12:25 a.m. members of the Greenstone OPP Detachment initiated to a traffic stop on Main Street in Geraldton.

 Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Bridge ECHUM-LEGARDE, 28-years-old, of Longlac, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Adult Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

 The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Geraldton on February 20th, 2025.

Joseph OLIVER – Drunk Driving

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following a single vehicle collision.

On January 12, 2025, at around 7:35 p.m., police received a report regarding a collision which occurred on 5th Line East in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

Officers arrived at the location and found a heavily damaged passenger vehicle which was unoccupied. Through investigation, the driver was located at a nearby residential address. OPP entered into an impaired operation investigation where the accused was taken into custody and transported to a nearby police station for further tests. There were no injuries reported, and no other persons involved.

Joseph OLIVER (age 20) from Stirling, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Fail to remain.

In addition to a future court date for the accused, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The OPP remind the public not to drive when planning to consume alcohol or drugs. Please make other arrangements for alternative transport such as a designated driver, taxi, rideshare, public transit or staying the night.

VAN VUGT – Drunk Driving

(ORANGEVILLE, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an Orangeville resident with impaired operation-related offences, thanks to the keen observation of an officer.

On January 10, 2024, at approximately 3:44 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers were conducting general patrol in the area of C Line in the Town of Orangeville. During their patrol, the officer observed a vehicle that had been mentioned in a traffic complaint the day prior. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and after a brief conversation with the driver, the officers quickly identified signs leading to an impaired driving investigation.

Matthew VAN VUGT, a 45-year-old male, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Vandewall – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation following an interaction at a collision scene.

Officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on William Street in Bobcaygeon on Friday January 10, 2025 at approximately 6:26pm. Upon arriving on scene an impaired driving investigation commenced. A red GMC pick-up was involved in the collision when it struck a Hydro pole.

Leo Vandewall, 54-year-old of Omemee, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80

In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day license suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.

School Bus Destroyed By Fire

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – At 8:32 a.m., Huntsville O.P.P. responded to a school bus on fire on Earls Road in Huntsville. All students were evacuated from the bus and transported to their schools by other buses. There were no injuries to any students or the driver.

Huntsville Fire Department attended the scene to extinguish fire and Hydro One crews attended to ensure sure no loss of services to power in the area as power lines were near the fully engulfed vehicle.

Earls Road has been re-opened and there is no further police investigation at this time.

COSENTINO – Impaired Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On January 10, 2025, shortly before 11:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP received a call from another driver that there was a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 89 and County Road 56, in Essa Township.

The Officer arrived on scene shortly after, locating a grey 4 door passenger vehicle on the northbound side of County Road 56, near the east side ditch. Two occupants were in the vehicle at the time and were able to exit with no injuries.

An ASD demand was issued and as of a result of the investigation the driver,

Marco COSENTINO, 29 years-old, of Vaughn, was charge with:  

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driver fail to surrender licence

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on February 27, 2025, to answer to the charges.

More Ditch Drunk Drivers Arrested

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – Two separate single vehicle collisions with the ditch ended with drivers facing criminal impaired charges.

On January 8, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Atikokan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 11 near Seine River.

Officers attended and found the driver of the vehicle to be obviously impaired by drug consumption. The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the Atikokan Detachment where a Drug Recognition Evaluation was completed by way of demand.

Heather SOLOMON, 48-years old, from Garden River Ontario is charged with one count of impaired operation alcohol or drug, one count of dangerous operation, one count of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, and one count of care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available. The accused’s vehicle was impounded for seven days, and driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

The accused was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on January 30, 2025, to speak to the charges.

On January 12, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Atikokan OPP responded to another report of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 11 near Lerome Lake.

Investigation determined that the driver was obviously impaired by alcohol consumption. The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the Atikokan Detachment where breath testing was completed by demand.

Brette CAIN, 35-years-old, from Atikokan Ontario is charged with one count of impaired operation alcohol or drug, and one count of impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 milligrams and over. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on January 30, 2025, to speak to the charges.

ILLINGWORTH – Drunk Driving

(CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after a single vehicle collision.

On January 9, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers received information about a car in the ditch on Mighton Court in Clearview Township. Officers attended the location to find the vehicle abandoned. Officers were able to contact the driver who advised that she had driven into the ditch earlier on in the day and was planning to retrieve it.

Officers re-attended the vehicle at a later time and found the female attempting to remove it. After speaking with the driver, officers conducted an impaired driving investigation. As a result, Tracy ILLINGWORTH, 62-year-old of Clearview, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

STEWART – Drunk Driving

(DOURO-DUMMER TOWNSHIP, ON) – Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after stopping at a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program.

On January 11, 2025, shortly after 11:00pm, Peterborough County OPP Officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on County Road 4 in Douro-Dummer Township. A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. program and an officer spoke with the driver. After a brief conversation with the driver, the officer determined they were under the influence of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.

Olivia STEWART (age 22) of Douro-Dummer Township, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Novice Driver – BAC above zero

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

·      Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on February 18, 2025.

Another Dies In Custody

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an incident which occurred at Warkworth Institution in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

On January 3, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Northumberland OPP received a report regarding an inmate who was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to another medical centre.

On January 12, 2025, the 30-year-old male, from Toronto, was pronounced deceased.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the individual. No other information can be provided at this time.

The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit is conducting the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services.

25 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Members of the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation following numerous driving complaints.

On January 12, 2025, just after 8:30 a.m., officers responded to traffic complaints regarding a vehicle being operated in a concerning manner. Officers located the vehicle in the area of Dougall Avenue and Kennedy Road. During the interaction, the officer formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested. 

As a result of the investigation, Alitzel GUTIERREZORTEGA, 25, of Brampton, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Green light – fail to proceed as directed

• Red light – proceed before green

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 30, 2025, to answer to the charges. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

KEMP – Impaired Driving

(BRANT, ON) – Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision at approximately 11:51 p.m. on January 10, 2025. The incident occurred on Highway 403 and involved two vehicles that had left the roadway and entered the ditch.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers observed both vehicles unoccupied, with the drivers being assessed by EMS. The driver of a truck reported being struck from behind by another vehicle while traveling in the right lane. The collision caused both vehicles to veer into the ditch.

Officers interviewed the driver of the second vehicle, identified as Mathew KEMP. During the interaction, officers observed signs consistent with impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the odour of alcohol.

Based on the investigation, officers believed KEMP had been operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol. KEMP was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the hospital for further assessment.

As a result, Mathew KEMP a 32-year-old from Drumbo has been charged with the following:

• Operation While Impaired

• Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

Mathew KEMP is scheduled to appear at the Brantford Court of Justice on January 23, 2025.

The Brant OPP reminds the public of the dangers of impaired driving. Anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver is encouraged to call 911 immediately.

BALALONG – Drunk Driving

(LEAMINGTON, ON)- On January 12, 2025, at 1:44 a.m., a member of Leamington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol when they observed a vehicle being operated by a suspected impaired driver on Seacliff Drive East, Municipality of Leamington.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking to the driver determined that they had previously consumed alcohol. As a result, they were arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment.

Angelo BALALONG, a 31-year-old of Leamington, has been charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Drive without proper rear light – motor vehicle

·        Class G1 licence holder – carry front-seat passenger

·        Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

·        Class G1 licence holder – drive at unlawful hour

·        Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

·        Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor to speak to the charges on January 28, 2025.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Essex County OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.
