POLICE SEEK ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING A MISSING MAN

(Laurentian Hills, Ontario) – The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking the assistance of the public in locating 71 year old Albert DYKS of North Grenville Township, Ontario.

Albert DYKS was last seen on April 30, 2014 just shortly after 7:00 pm. He was last seen on foot leaving a hunt camp located off Barron Canyon Road in the Town of Laurentian Hills, Ontario. He was wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans and running shoes.

Members of the OPP including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, and Marine Unit are involved in the search.

PROHIBITED DRIVER CHARGED

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at approximately 12:12 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a male, possibly impaired, operating a dirt bike around the village of Eugenia, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

A member of the OPP Highway Safety Division Mount Forest Traffic Management Unit attended the area and observed the suspect operating a Ford garden tractor on his property in Eugenia. Investigation revealed the suspect’s ability to operate any motor vehicle was prohibited due to a life time driving prohibition for an impaired driving conviction. The suspect was warned not to operate any motorized vehicle, anywhere, as a result of his prohibition.

Despite the officer’s warning, the accused drove the lawn tractor onto the roadway and proceeded west bound on Canrobert Street. He was subsequently arrested. A road side breath test was conducted and, although alcohol was a factor, he was not impaired.

Bradley Charles WEATHERALL, 45, of Grey Highlands, is charged with Drive While Disqualified under the Criminal Code, and two counts of Drive While Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. The lawn tractor was impounded for 45 days.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

Robert J. MALLEN – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – On April 30, 2014 shortly after 9:15 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling in the area of Olde Base Line Road and Torbram Road when they came across a motor vehicle collision. The officers located a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee in the field on the north edge of Base Line Road and observed as the driver operated the vehicle in the field. The officers approached the driver and immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and he displayed other signs of impairment by alcohol.

Subsequently, the driver was read the roadside screening breath demand. The driver’s breath reading registered a fail and he was transported to Detachment for further testing.

In conclusion, Robert J. MALLEN, 57, of Caledon was arrested and charged with Care or Control Over 80 mgs.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on May 15, 2014.

DRUG BUST IN ORILLIA

(ORILLIA, ON) – On Thursday April 24, 2014, members of the Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, including the Street Crime Unit (SCU), Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) and the Canine Unit made drug arrests at a Memorial Avenue address.

Officers arrested two females after observing what they believed to be a drug transaction. After further investigation a male party was arrested leaving a Memorial Avenue address. The arrests led to a warrant being executed at the Memorial Avenue address and police seized a quantity of drugs consisting of the following:

1 gram Cannabis Resin

2.5 grams of Marihuana

3.4 grams of Heroin

45 grams of Cocaine

3 hydromorphone pills

Police also seized scales, cell phones and a quantity of cash.

Jeremy JOHN, 42 years old from Orillia has been charged with various drug offences and was held in custody. His next court date is May 5, 2014.

Meghan WALSH, 26 years old from Oro Medonte has been charged with various drug offences. She was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court date in Orillia on June 3, 2014.

Nina NUTBEAN, 28 years old from Orillia has been charged with Possession of Cocaine. She was released on a Promise to Appear and has a court date in Orillia on June 3, 2014.

POLICE WORRIED ABOUT A LOCAL MANS SAFETY

Robert LAFLAMME – Drunk Driving

(Augusta Twp. ON) At approximately 7:20 pm on Wednesday April 30, 2014 officers from the Grenville County OPP – Prescott Detachment were advised of a possible impaired driver operating a Budget Rental cube van eastbound on the 401 Hwy near mm 705 in Augusta Twp. The complainant reports the van to be driven in a dangerous and unsafe manner and to have witnessed the van moving from lane to lane, being operated on the paved shoulder and to have struck an MTO sign at the off ramp at mm 705.

Police observed the vehicle on the Hwy 401 at mm 716 and shortly afterwards stopped the vehicle. Officers noted a strong odour of alcohol coming from his breath and observed other signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to the Kemptvlle detachment for breath tests.

67 year old male, Robert LAFLAMME of Russell Twp was charged with Impaired Driving, Exceed 80 and fail to report damage to property on Highway. He is to appear in Brockville Court at a later date.

POLICE SEE A RISE IN GRAFFITI IN THE COUNTY

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers have seen a rise in the amount of Graffiti in the County of Brant.

The County of Brant OPP is looking for the public’s help in eradicating the Graffiti. If you see any new forms of graffiti, please call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and report it. Parents watch for missing spray paint cans our other products. Local businesses can question youths that are purchasing paint and other products that can be used for graffiti.

The goal of Graffiti Eradication is to remove it as soon as possible and to deter any further acts of graffiti. With a unified community we can eliminate graffiti.

Motor Vehicle Collision – Petroleum Spill

(Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Twp, ON.) At approximately 10:35 pm on Wednesday April 30, 2014 officers from the Grenville County OPP – Prescott Detachment responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on the 401 Hwy eastbound approx. 5 km west of Cardinal Ontario.

A Tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on the 401 Hwy. when attempting to avoid a deer hit the shoulder of the road and was pulled into the median. The tractor stayed upright however the trailers flipped onto their sides. Two trailers were carrying petroleum.

Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Transportation, Edwardsbrugh/Cardinal Fire and Drain All attended and remain on scene.

Both east and west bound traffic is closed between exit 730 (Cardinal) and 721(b), (Johnstown) while tankers are drained and removed.

Highway expected to open later this afternoon.

PASSING UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS IS PROHIBITED

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) No vehicle shall be driven or operated to the left of a centre of a roadway (passing) when approaching within 30 metres of a level railway crossing.

Understand that school buses are required to stop at railway crossings under the Highway Traffic Act.

Passing upon approaching a level railway crossing can result in charges under section 149(1)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and faces a total penalty of $110.00.

Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind motorists that they shall be cautious and familiar with the laws regarding approaching a railway.

Speeding, disobeying traffic controls (lights and/or signs), and failing to yield right-of-way accounts for many preventable collisions.

Drivers must take responsibility and this will reduce the risks on the road. Please drive defensively and safely. Drive according to the weather and road conditions.

REQUIREMENT TO YIELD

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind motorists that there is a requirement to yield to (transit) buses from the bus stop.

The Highway Traffic Act explains that every driver of a vehicle in the lane of traffic adjacent to a bus stop shall yield the right of way to the driver of a bus who has indicated their intention to re-enter that lane.

Failing to yield to a bus re-entering a lane from a bus stop can face a total penalty of $110.00 under section 142.1 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Jack Walton – Arrested For Possession of Loaded Guns At Hanover Motel

On April 28th 2014 at 9:30pm a member of the Hanover Police Service attended to a motel in the 600 block of 10th street in Hanover to conduct an investigation on a male suspect known to be residing at the motel.

The HPS officer knocked on the door of a motel unit and was met by an intoxicated male who indicated that the male that police were seeking no longer lived in that unit. While speaking with the intoxicated male the HPS officer noticed numerous firearms and other weapons on the bed inside the motel unit.

The HPS officer attempted to arrest the suspect at which point a struggle ensued and additional officers were summoned to assist with the arrest. The suspect was eventually subdued, arrested and transported to the Hanover Police Service. During the arrest a HPS officer was injured and later treated and released from the Hanover and District Hospital for minor injuries.

The Hanover Police Service seized a loaded sawed off shot gun, a loaded .32 calibre revolver, an unloaded .32 calibre revolver, numerous
rounds of ammunition, numerous prohibited knives, brass knuckles, an extendable baton, a recording device, lock picks and other break and
enter tools along with handcuffs and a handcuff key.

The suspect has been identified as Jack Walton, age 33 from Brockton but formerly of Toronto. lt was learned that the suspect had just been released from custody after having served a sentence on weapons convictions and crimes of violence.

On April 29th the suspect was remanded into custody at a bail hearing in Walkerton and is scheduled to make a court appearance by video on
May 02nd,2014.

Walton has been charged with 19 criminal charges that include:

3 counts of possession of a prohibited firearm,

2 counts of possession of a firearm with altered serial numbers,

3 counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited,

6 counts of possession of prohibited weapon,

1 count of possession of ammunition while prohibited,

2 counts of possession of break-in instruments,

1 count of resisting arrest and 1 count of breach of probation.

Man Charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed an intoxicated man on King Street near Fifth Street in Chatham. The man was unable to care for himself and was arrested for his own safety.

The 32-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He will be in custody until sober.

Break and Enter in Wallaceburg

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter in Wallaceburg last night.

Around 9:45 p.m. an unknown man entered a residence on Dufferin Avenue and stole alcohol. The suspect is described as a white male, 5’5”’- 5’8” in height, short dark hair, wearing a grey hoodie, jeans and black baseball cap.

16th Annual Guelph Police Bicycle Ticket Program

The 16th Annual Guelph Police Bicycle Ticket Program begins today and will run until Friday August 1, 2014.

This program is designed to promote awareness to Guelph youth of the benefits of wearing bicycle helmets while riding their bike through positive reinforcement. While officers are on proactive patrol, when they see a child wearing their bike helmet, they will stop the youth and reward them with a ticket for a free, Dairy Queen “Mini-Blizzard®” courtesy of Dairy Queen Guelph.

The child will then be eligible to win a free bike, courtesy of George Vettor Cycle, on August 1, 2014. Thank you George Vettor for your many years of committment to our community and to your family for their continued support.

Prescription Drug Drop-off Day

On Saturday May 10, 2014 the Saugeen Shores Police are hosting a prescription drug drop-off day. This initiative is in response to the growing concerns arising from the abuse of prescription medication. We intend to provide a safe, simple and environmentally conscious way for our community to dispose of their unwanted, unneeded and expired prescription medications. Our goal is to eliminate the possibility that these drugs may fall into the wrong hands and potentially ruin the lives of others. You can contribute to a safer community by dropping off unneeded/expired prescription drugs.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in this event. There is no obligation to provide your name or the details concerning how you obtained the prescription medication. Every participant will remain completely anonymous.

The public is reminded that unneeded/expired prescription medications can be returned at any time, year-round to their local pharmacy.
