(COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO) Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Central Drug Enforcement Unit and Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) with the assistance of the Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP Street Crimes unit and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) member conducted a search warrant at a residence on Hurontario Street yesterday morning in Collingwood.

The warrant led to the seizure of 500 grams of marihuana, 9 grams of cocaine and approximately $1300 in cash. Police also arrested and charged a male as a result of this investigation.

Charged is 38 year-old James Lee THORNINGTON of Collingwood, he is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (2 counts) and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. He is to appear in Collingwood court on the 10th of June 2014.

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON)- On Sunday May 4, 2014 at 2:29 a.m. members of the Middlesex OPP observed an ATV travelling westbound on Broadway Street near Ann Street in Parkhill. At the time the officer noted that the ATV was being operated by a male driver and had three passengers, all of whom were observed not wearing helmets. A traffic stop was completed at which time two males fled the scene on foot. Police also confirmed that the driver had been drinking. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Strathroy OPP detachment for further tests. As a result of an investigation police have charged William RITCHIE, age 23 of North Middlesex with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Driving a Motor Vehicle with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in his Blood, as per Section 253 of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to appear in a London court room on July 10, 2014 to speak to the charges.

(COLLINGWOOD AND THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO) Auxiliary officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted several Lock it or Lose it checks last night throughout our area in parking lots and streets checking parked cars to see if the doors were locked and valuables put out of sight.

In total, 210 vehicles were checked, only 13 had door(s) unlocked and 6 with valuables in plain view. It is always a good practice to remove all valuables from your vehicle or move them out of sight, pocket your keys and lock your doors.

This is a great initiative from our Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP Auxiliaries which they conduct on a regular basis and once a car is checked, a leaflet is left on the car for information on crime prevention.

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Thursday, May 8, 2014 at approximately 1:53 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a 2013 Nissan on Toronto St., North, Markdale, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands after the vehicle was observed weaving on the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle was found to have been drinking alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Markdale Detachment for breath tests. Test results indicated he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Shane FLOOD, 40, of Grey Highlands, was charged with impaired driving and over 80 mgs. He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

(South Stormont) – On May 7th, 2014 at approximately 11:45am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of an assault at a property on County Road 29, South Stormont Township. Investigation revealed a dispute between a man and woman resulted in the female being assaulted.

The 46year old man (from South Stormont) was arrested and is charged with;

– Assault

He was released and scheduled to appear in Cornwall court on June 26, 2014.

(South Dundas) – On May 7th, 2014 at approximately 9:00pm, an SD&G OPP officer had the occasion to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 401, South Dundas Township. The stop resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of Canadian currency.

The male driver, Simarjeet BUTTAR (40) was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
– Trafficking in Stolen Goods over $5000

He was released and scheduled to appear in Morrisburg court on June 17th, 2014.

(South Stormont) – On May 8th, 2014 at approximately 3:15am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Ault Drive, South Stormont Township. Investigation indicated the female driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Deborah Ann GOTHARD (59) was arrested and is charged with;

– Care or Control of a Vehicle While Impaired
– Care or Control of a Vehicle with Over 80mgs Blood Alcohol Content

She was released and scheduled to appear in Cornwall court on May 20th, 2014.

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at approximately 12:38 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of two victims requiring medical attention after they had been attacked by their dog. The incident occurred on Centre Line A in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

The 64 year old female victim was walking towards her vehicle when she was suddenly knocked down and viciously attacked by her dog, a 4 year old male, Pit Bull/Terrier cross dog. The victim’s 90 year old father, who was sitting inside the vehicle at the time, went to his daughter’s aid at which time he, too, was attacked by the dog.

The female victim suffered serious multiple bites to her arms and face. She was air lifted to a London Hospital. The male victim suffered a serious bite to his forearm and was transported by Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) to a hospital in Markdale where he was treated and released.

Police, with the assistance of the Grey Highlands Animal Control Officer, attempted to secure the dog who continued to be extremely aggressive at the scene. The dog was dispatched by police for public safety.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit was notified.

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Over the past couple of weeks, an increasing number of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) have been stolen from Eastern Ontario properties. A large number of these ATV’s had been left parked outside or left on the back of a trailer or pick-up truck.

The Quinte West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind ATV owners that when left unattended, ATVs should be locked inside a garage or outbuilding. Ensure the ignition key has been removed from the ATV and kept in your residence.

If you do not have a garage or outbuilding you can secure your ATV by chaining it to a tree or other permanent fixture.

(COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a theft from a construction site in the Town of Collingwood and are asking for the public’s help in solving this crime.

The theft took place sometime overnight from the 5th of May at 6:00am to the 6th of May at 6:30am where culprit(s) entered a house under construction on Third Street in Collingwood. Once on the property the culprit(s) stole a generator, acetylene torch with a large tank, several spools of copper wire and copper tubing.
