(OTONABEE – SOUTH MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – This evening, at 5:37PM, an officer from the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motor vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Highway 7 in the Township of Otonobee – South Monaghan. The driver refused to stop and short Suspect Apprehension Pursuit (SAP) was initiated.
The vehicle which police were attempting to stop crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a motor vehicle near the intersection of Highway 7 and Keene Road.
Two occupants from the struck vehicle have been transported to a Peterborough area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver who was attempting to flee, has since been airlifted to a Toronto area Trauma Centre with what are reported as life threatening injuries.
As a result of this incident, the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and has invoked its mandate. Further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at ($16) 622-2342.
