On Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at approximately 9:30 pm, an officer was on patrol near Hodder Avenue when the officer conducted a check of a vehicle licence plate and was subsequently advised the licence plate was stolen. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to flee. Shortly thereafter, the officer lost sight of the vehicle. The vehicle was located a short time later on West Floral beach Road in the Municipality of Shuniah, abandoned. Members of the North West Region Emergency Response Team and the Canine unit responded to conduct a search for the occupants of the vehicle with negative results. Further investigation resulted in the driver being located and arrested.
Johnathan WON, 19 years of age, from Thunder Bay has been charged with the following criminal offences;
-Flight While Pursued By Peace Officer,
-Fail to Comply With Probation Order,
-Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle,
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime,
-Public Mischief; all contrary to the Criminal Code.
He is to appear in Provincial Court on July 25 2014 to answer to the charges.
