155 in a 90

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Thursday, May 15, 2014, an officer from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Highway 11/17 near Balsam Street when the officer observed a westbound 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle was driving in excess of 155 km/hour in a posted 90 km/hour zone.

The 21 year old male driver from Gorham Township vehicle was issued a Provincial Summons for Drive Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt / Speeding by 50 or more km/hour contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was also issued a 7 day licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.

On Monday, May 19, an officer was on patrol on Highway 11/17 near Balsam Street when the officer observed a 2007 Nissan Altima travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver was driving in excess of 145 km/hour in a posted 90 km/hour zone.

The 38 year old female driver from Thunder Bay was issued a Provincial Summons for Drive Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt / Speeding by 50 km/hour contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was issued a 7 day licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.
