Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers and the Ministry of Natural Resources are asking for the publics’ assistance preventing illegal fishing.
Targeting pre-season bass can jeopardize the health of future bass stocks. This is the time when bass spawn. It is an offence to even attempt to catch any fish species during the closed season for that species – even if you are planning on releasing the fish immediately. Bass are particularly vulnerable to closed season angling and thousands, perhaps millions of bass fry are lost annually because of this unlawful practice. Largemouth and Smallmouth bass season opens on June 21st 2014, in Renfrew County, and on June 20th in the Ottawa River. If people observe individuals targeting and keeping bass please report immediately. For more information to confirm the fisheries management zone, please check in the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary.
