(THAMES CENTRE, ON)- On Wednesday May 21, 2014 at 9:56 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire Department and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a multi- vehicle collision at the intersection of Elgin Road and Crampton Drive in the Municipality of Thames Centre.
Police have learned that four of the vehicles involved were travelling northbound on Elgin Road. A northbound car on Elgin Road was waiting to make a left hand turn when a second northbound car collided into the back of it. A chain of events resulted in secondary collision between the second car and a transport truck also travelling northbound. The fourth northbound vehicle, a pickup truck maneuvered into a ditch. A southbound pickup ran off the roadway and struck a stop sign.
The driver of the second car, Johan GIESBRECHT, age 22 of Aylmer was transported to a local area hospital with possible life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital but is no longer critical.
Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
A section of Elgin Road between Gladstone Drive and Mossley Drive was closed for the investigation and reopened at approximately 4:40 p.m.
The investigation is continuing.
