Amarjit HOTHI – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 25, 2014 at approximately 1:35 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was travelling eastbound on Mayfield Road when he observed a westbound blue Chrysler Sebring being operated without headlights. As the vehicle passed the officer’s location, he observed the vehicle travel over the center line, partially in the westbound lane. Subsequently, the officer initiated a traffic stop to check on the driver’s sobriety.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he requested the driver roll down the window and observed that the driver appeared unfocused and disoriented. The officer opened the driver’s side door and immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver required the officer’s assistance to remove his seatbelt and to step out of the vehicle. The officer arrested the driver and he was transported to Detachment for testing.

As a result of the officer’s observations, Amarjit HOTHI, 47, of Brampton was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Over 80.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on June 12, 2014.

If you suspect that someone is driving or is about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired and intends on driving, do not let them drive.
