(CALEDON, ON) – On May 23, 2014 at approximately 2:17 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a northbound vehicle ahead of his marked cruiser. The vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner, swerving within the lane and across both the north and southbound lanes. The officer also noted the vehicle’s varying speeds from 80 to 115 km/hr. As the officer approached the vehicle from the rear, he observed the vehicle swerve off the road into the northbound shoulder. The officer activated the marked cruiser’s emergency systems to conduct a vehicle stop to check on the driver’s sobriety.
Upon speaking with the male driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to Detachment for testing.
In conclusion, Kevin PRENDERGAST, 30, of Mississauga was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 and Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle.
The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on July 3, 2014.
