RECOVERED ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On Thursday April 24, 2014 a Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on general patrol stopped the driver of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in Cramahe Township for not wearing a helmet. An investigation into the ownership of the ATV has resulted in charges being laid by OPP.

The 32 year old male driver was stopped without a helmet on a 2005 Yamaha Grizzly 660 ATV on County Road 21 near Cowie Road in Cramahe Township at approximately 5:43pm on April 2014. He was unable to produce valid ownership or insurance for the machine which resulted in a follow-up investigation by Northumberland OPP’s Street Response Team (SRT).

As a result of this follow-up investigation, it was determined that the Yamaha was reported to Durham Regional Police as stolen from the Whitby area in 2005.

Northumberland OPP’s SRT members concluded their investigation on Wednesday May 28, 2014 and have arrested and charged Troy SAUNDERS, 42 from Belleville, Ontario with one count each of trafficking in stolen goods and possession of property obtained by crime under the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton, Ontario on Wednesday June 25, 2014.
