(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On June 7, 2014 at approximately 3:30 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling in the area of the Sixth Line and the Eramosa-Garafraxa Town Line in Centre Wellington Township following up on another criminal investigation.
Officers stopped a 1997 Ford Aerostar van that was in the area and spoke with the male driver. Police immediately detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and noted obvious signs of impairment as well as an open case of beer on the front passenger floor. The driver was placed under arrest for impaired driving and transported back to the Rockwood Operation Centre for further testing.
The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Joshua HERWYNEN aged 18 of Centre Wellington Township has been charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80 MGS contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, Young Driver – BAC Above Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Person Under 19 Having Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on June 24, 2014 to answer to the charges.
