UPDATE – EMERGENCY EVACUATION

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – Following the evacuation initiated as a result of gas leak in the town of Kapuskasing on June 12, 2014, authorities at the scene have deemed the source as being gasoline based and not natural gas. The Kapuskasing Public Works and Fire Department remain at the scene in an effort to locate the contaminating source. The established perimeter of the affected area remains under evacuation and is secured by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) until further notice.

Authorities are requesting that residents who detect an odour of gasoline within their residents to evacuate the premise immediately, report it to the Kapuskasing Public Works Department by dialing (705) 337-4268 and to subsequently register with the Canadian Red Cross at the Kapuskasing Sports Palace located at 70 Brunelle Road North.

Affected residents will remain in a state of evacuation until it is declared safe to return.
