Occurrence #: BA14-028126
Date: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 – 8:00pm
On the 17th of June 2014, Police responded to a call of disturbance in the downtown core. The information were that four males were fighting at the five points in downtown Barrie. Upon Police arrival officers discovered that two males had fled the area and two males and a female remained.
Police learned that a 30 year old Barrie male had been involved in a previous relationship with the female on scene. The two parties had domestic issues in the past which resulted in the male being charged with assault and receiving a peace bond.
It is alleged that while the male was downtown last evening he was intoxicated and ran into the female while she was with two male friends. The accused male began to yell obscenities towards the female which were deemed offensive by the female and her friends. It was at this time the two males approached the accused male and began an altercation regarding the comments towards the female. The female victim then interjected and was yelling at the accused male at which time he struck her in the face.
Police attended, learned of the assault and subsequently arrested the male on the assault charges. The male was transported to the station and was held pending a bail hearing for the assault. While in the cells the male felt the need to urinate all over the walls and floor of the cell block. Police have now laid an additional charge of mischief.
After completing their investigation police later discovered that the assault on the female victim was captured on Barrie’s downtown cameras. The video evidence was seized and will now be used as evidence against the accused male.
