OPP INVESTIGATE BOATING INCIDENT ON LOST LAKE

(HUDSON, ON) – The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently searching for two missing boaters on Lost Lake, approximately 20 kilometers west of Sioux Lookout, in the Hamlet of Hudson.

During the afternoon of June 19, 2014, eight residents from the Lac Seul First Nation were travelling between the communities of Hudson and Frenchman’s Head. The group encountered difficult lake conditions due to weather, and the boat capsized. Six of the boaters were able to get themselves to shore, where they were treated by emergency medical services (EMS). One of the boaters was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced deceased. The deceased has been identified as 39 year old Kevin BRISKET of Frenchman’s Head, Ontario.

Members of the Sioux Lookout OPP, along with the Lac Seul Police Service, Sioux Lookout and Hudson Fire Departments, and the North West Emergency Response Team are continuing to search for two outstanding boaters at this time: a 19 year old male and a 30 year old male, both from Frenchman’s Head.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) has also been called in to assist.

The investigation is continuing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
