In early May of 2014 members of the Owen Sound Police, Criminal Investigations Branch and Forensic Identification Unit commenced an investigation concerning the sexual assault of a child. The lengthy investigation involved the execution of a number of warrants including the execution of warrants to obtain DNA for forensic comparison.
On June 16th, 2014 detectives finalized the investigation and obtained a warrant for the accused’s arrest, who had fled back to Peel Region. On June 17th, 2014, with assistance from Peel Regional Police, the accused was located and arrested in Mississauga. The accused was subsequently returned to Owen Sound to face charges.
30 year old Christopher Dennis NIELSEN has been charged with Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference. He appeared in Bail Court on June 18th, 2014 and was remanded into custody. NIELSEN’S next court appearance is on June 27th, 2014 where he will appear in court by video.
The accused was an acquaintance of the child and mother. There is no information at this time to indicate there may be other victims.
