MALE CHARGED WITH REFUSING TO PROVIDE A BREATH SAMPLE

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) have charged a Winnipeg man for failing to provide a breath sample following a vehicle stop Highway 17 west of Kenora. Shortly before 4:30 pm on Thursday June 26 2014, members of the Kenora HSD received a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 heading east to Kenora. Police attended the location and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and transported him for further tests.

As a result of this investigation, 26 year old Jeremy TARASOFF has been charged with Impaired Driving and Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Kenora Court on June 27 for a bail hearing.

Under the Criminal Code of Canada, it is an offence to Refuse to Comply with a Valid Screening Device or Breath Test Demand. This means that if a police officer makes a demand for you to provide a breath sample, or blow into a screening device, and you do not comply, you may be charged under the Criminal Code of Canada. The consequences of a conviction for Refuse / Fail to Blow are the same as being convicted of Impaired or Over 80.
