Robert BROCK Arrested Following Collision

(WHARNCLIFF, ON)– Police and Algoma Paramedic Services respond to a motor vehicle collision (MVC) rollover on Highway 129. Driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

On July 14, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single MVC rollover on Highway 129 near the community of Wharncliffe (north of Thessalon).

Police arrived a short time later and observed a brown pick-up truck in the south bound ditch, along with a small utility trailer and an All-Terrain-Vehicle.

Investigation determined prior to the collision the brown pick-up truck was travelling northbound on Highway 129 near Melwel Road and entered the southbound lane causing a southbound vehicle driver to take evasive action to avoid a head on collision. The brown pick-up truck continued northbound and later entered the southbound ditch.

While speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcohol beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Thessalon OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Robert BROCK, 50 years-of-age from Wharncliffe was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Careless driving

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 8, 2024.
