The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman following a traffic stop in Chatham last night.
Around 10:30 p.m. police received information regarding a suspicious pick-up truck in the area of Pioneer Line and Caledonia Road. Officers located the vehicle on Gregory Line and initiated a traffic stop just east of Prince Albert Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer observed in plain view that the woman was in possession of large bolt cutters and several coils of underground copper cable. The woman was placed under arrest at which point she attempted to put the truck into drive. The woman continued to resist arrest and had to be physically removed from the driver’s seat. Upon being handcuffed and searched incident to arrest, the woman was further found to be in possession of gloves, a hammer and two socket wrenches. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.
Brenda Summerfield, 50 years, of Talbot Street in Shrewsbury has been charged with possession of break-in tools and resisting arrest. She has been released from custody with conditions pending a future court date.
